Followers of Alexander Bedward (1859–1930), a prophet-healer at August Town, Kingston, Jamaica. He was successor to an American Negro, Woods, founder of the Jamaica
Baptist
Free Church in 1891, who had appointed his convert Bedward as

with the title ‘Shepherd’. Shepherd Bedward emphasized prayer, fasting, baptism by the
Holy
Spirit, prophecy, and healing through water from the Mona River.
