Eleazar ben Judah of Worms

known as Eleazar Roke’a

1230).
Medieval German Jewish scholar. Eleazar was a major scholar of the
asidei
Ashkenaz movement. Based in Worms, he wrote many
piyyutim
(liturgical poems) as well as works of theology, ethics, exegesis, and
halakhah
. In
Roke’a
(the opening chapters of which were often reprinted as separate works), he explored the mystical meaning of halakot and prayers. In
Sodei Razayya
(The Secret of Secrets), he attempted to summarize the teachings of
asidei Ashkenazim.
