Ethan hoisted him off his seat and wrapped an arm around his waist. With Ethan’s help he made his way to a table in the far corner and into a seat. His legs gave out, and he flopped into the chair.

“What the hell is wrong with you? You look like shit.” Ethan scooted his chair closer to him.

“Jeez, thanks.” Jensen chuckled. The waitress brought over their drinks, and he picked up the shot and drank it. He hissed at the dryness in his mouth.

“You know that’s not what I meant.” Ethan pushed the beer bottle closer to him.

“I know.” Jensen took a swig from the bottle. “I guess you can say I’m moody at the present moment. The man I love walked out on me this morning and hasn’t come home or even called to let me know he’s okay. How fucking inconsiderate is that?”

“Sounds pretty shitty to me.” Ethan took a drink of his beer then set the bottle down. “So you’re in love with this guy?” Jensen nodded his head. “You didn’t tell me that earlier.”

Jensen looked up and his head lolled to the side. “I didn’t know then.” Did he love Josh? If he thought long and hard about it, he did. Ever since that first kiss he couldn’t shake the man from his memory. Even after the awful things Josh had said to him, he still couldn’t find it in him to hate the man. That had to be love. Being able to love the other person even when they were being a total asshole.

“Well, I’d say congratulations, but you don’t look too happy about it.”

“No, it’s not that.” Jensen tried to get his lifeless fingers to rub across his eyes, but the alcohol had caused all feeling to leave his extremities for the time being. “It’s Josh is new to the whole gay thing. He’s trying, but he keeps sticking his foot in his mouth.”

“Oh, really? How’s that?” Ethan’s voice took on a low tone, and Jensen looked into the man’s eyes.

“He’s never been with a man before, and he thinks letting me fuck him is beneath him. That it would make him less of a man or something. Just because he’s a werewolf doesn’t mean he’s more of a man than me, you know? So what, he can get all hairy and run on all fours when he wants, big freaking deal.” The dam had been broken, and he couldn’t get his mouth to stop overflowing with all of Josh’s secrets.

Ethan’s eyes had gone wide. “So, this Josh is a werewolf?”

“Yes!” Jensen smacked his hand down on the tabletop, and one of the beer bottles toppled over. “A big ass of one if you were to ask me. Josef and Devon are nothing like Josh. They don’t look down on me for being human. And I bet they let their boyfriends fuck them whenever they want.”

“You know more than just one werewolf? Interesting.”

Jensen could hear Ethan talking, but the sound had started to dim. It was as if he was in slow motion and everyone around him was moving as if through water. His head felt dizzy, and the room, he could have sworn, had started to spin. Jensen brought his hands up to his forehead and tried to stop the merry-go-round he was on.

“Jensen.” He looked up when Ethan’s hand touched his shoulder.

“I don’t feel so good.” Jensen closed his eyes and took a deep breath, but it didn’t help. He still felt like he was spinning in circles. “I think I should go.” When he tried to stand up his legs wobbled, and if it weren’t for Ethan catching him he would have fallen on his ass. He tilted his head up to look at Ethan and mumbled, “Thanks.”

That was the last thing Jensen remembered before the blissfulness of darkness dragged him under.

Chapter Six

Josh got back to Jensen’s house just before ten. The house was dark and when he knocked Jensen didn’t come to let him in. He tried the knob, but it was locked. Josh walked around the house trying each window until he found one that was unlocked. He pushed it open then climbed inside.

He looked in each room and called out for Jensen but no answer. Josh really couldn’t blame the man for leaving. All his clothes and work papers were still here, so the man would be coming back. Josh just didn’t know when.

Flipping on the bedroom light, Josh sat down on the bed he had shared with Jensen just that morning. He picked up his mate’s pillow and buried his nose in to it. He could still smell faint traces of Jensen’s cologne on the soft fabric. If he closed his eyes tight, he could still see Jensen sprawled out on the bed. A small smile tugged at Jensen’s lips even while he was asleep.

Josh lay down on the bed and curled his body around Jensen’s pillow. If he had only handled the whole sex talk with his mate better, he could be here holding Jensen in his arms and not his pillow. But like all things, Josh spoke before thinking and made a complete fool of himself and insulted his mate all in one fell swoop.

He had never had one gay thought in his entire life until he met Jensen. All the urges and emotions racing through his body were brand-new, and when Jensen said he wanted to fuck him, Josh couldn’t help but freak out. Up until two weeks ago he had only participated in sex with women, and none of them ever stuck anything up his ass.

“Ugh!” Josh groaned and threw his arm up and over his eyes. He never thought it would be so hard to have a mate, but he also expected he’d be mated to a woman, not a guy.

Getting up off the bed, Josh headed to the bathroom. Maybe if he had a nice hot shower he’d think of a way to make it up to his mate. He didn’t blame Jensen for insinuating that he ran when things got too difficult, because as of lately that’s exactly what he had been doing.

But as he ran along the countryside Josh realized one thing. Jensen was the last person on earth he wanted to run away from. If anything, he wanted to run to the man. The pull of being mates never let him get too far from Jensen’s house, but far enough for him to breathe.

Josh stepped under the hot spray of water and closed his eyes. The water ran down his body, and it felt like a million tiny fingertips caressing his skin. Being in Jensen’s home and smelling his soap had his body coming alive. His dick started to stir, and Josh soaped up his hands. He trailed his fingers down until he gripped the base. The pulse thumped under his grip. He slid his hand upward then quickly back down. Sensations overloaded his mind and made him quiver with longing.

As he pumped his shaft with one hand, he used the other to tug at his balls. He fanned out his fingers to get a better grip and lightly scraped the skin at the back of his balls. His small orbs drew up tight, and his ass clenched.

You’re all alone, Josh. No one will ever know if you experiment on your body.
The inner voice inside his head taunted him in a teasing voice. But it had a point.

Josh turned to look at the shower-stall door. The glass was foggy with steam, but he could still see out. He was all alone in the house, and now did seem like a perfect time to see what he’d been missing out on.

With soapy fingers, Josh rubbed lightly on the soft, slightly furred skin between his balls and asshole. His body jerked with pleasure at the light touch. Slowly he edged his middle finger back further until he felt the small ridges surrounding his hole. He stroked over the tight bud, and the more he touched it the harder his cock became.

Soap coated the entrance, and Josh bit his lip as he pushed forward. His body resisted at first, but he forced his finger through the tight barrier. Once the tip was inside, he breathed a sigh of relief. It felt foreign and tight but not necessarily bad. Taking another deep breath, he pressed in deeper. The walls of his channel were silky smooth and hot against his finger.

Very slowly, he pulled the finger out, only leaving in the very tip, then pushed back inside. His cock jerked, and pre-cum mixed with the water running over his body to run down his legs. Josh continued to fuck himself with the one finger and jerked his cock with his other hand. The combined sensations had lava pooling in his stomach and moving straight down to his balls. He moved his hand faster and shoved as much of his finger inside him as possible.

“Holy shit!” he shouted as cum shot out his cock. His ass clamped down on his finger, and he held still to soak up the sweet relief of his orgasm.

When his breathing came under control, he removed the finger from his ass and relaxed back against the shower wall. He had never come that hard in his life. Even last night and this morning with Jensen didn’t seem to compare. It had him wondering if maybe he should let Jensen make love to him. Granted, Jensen’s dick was a whole lot bigger than his finger, but he trusted Jensen. His mate would never hurt him on purpose.

Josh finished washing up then turned off the water and toweled off. The house still sat quiet with no sign of Jensen. Josh crawled into bed and pulled the comforter up to his waist. A smile played across his lips. He couldn’t wait for Jensen to come home and tell him the good news that he was willing to try sex his way, and maybe if he was lucky Jensen would let him make love to him. But Josh had a feeling he had some groveling in his future.

He looked at the clock, and it read half past ten. He had to assume Jensen had gone out to blow off some steam. Josh just wished he’d come home soon. He didn’t like the distance between them. They made such progress, and because of his narrow-mindedness he pushed his mate away. Granted he still thought Jensen could have been a little more understanding, but that was neither here nor there now. Now all he wanted to do was be with his mate.

One more look at the clock showed that only ten minutes had passed. Josh rolled to his side and cuddled against Jensen’s pillow again. He rubbed his nose into the side of it then rested his cheek on it. A yawn had his jaw popping open, and he let his eyes fall shut. While he waited for Jensen to come home, he could catch a few winks.

* * * *

A loud bang had Josh jumping out of bed. He looked out the window and could see that a car was parked in the driveway. Josh ran to Jensen’s dresser and pulled out a pair of the man’s running shorts. Though they were baggy on Jensen, they came up short on him, just above the knee. It didn’t matter. It would do for now.

Josh hustled down the hallway and stopped as he neared the door. The sounds of laughter could be heard through the thick wood. Another thump and the door shook.

As he neared the front of the house, he could smell Jensen’s natural musk along with the strong stench of alcohol. His eyes burned at the bitter aroma. As he put his hand on the doorknob, another scent caught his attention. He paused to sniff the air. A type of cologne he never smelled before mingled with his mate’s.

He popped the lock and opened the door. His mate toppled over, and he caught the man before he could hit the floor. Jensen’s eyes were closed as if he had already fallen asleep. Josh picked his mate up and cradled him like a baby close to his chest.

“Sorry about that.” Josh looked up at the man standing in the doorway. A heavy wave of the man’s cologne bombarded his senses. Through the door it hadn’t been so bad, but now without a door separating them it was as if the man took a bath in the stuff.

Josh grimaced and stood to his full height and took inventory of the man his mate had run to for solace. He thought they stood about the same height, but it was hard to tell as he lounged on the door frame. His hair looked fashionably messy yet stylish at the same time. He had striking good looks that even Josh, who was only attracted to one man, could admire. Dark hair, tanned skin, and a straight, sharp, chiseled face. Josh thought it made the man look unreal, as if he had been cut from stone. No one looked that put together. The guy didn’t seem to have a flaw.

“You must be the boyfriend. I’ve heard quite a lot about you.”

Josh looked down at the man’s offered hand. “Sorry, but my hands are full at the moment.” He motioned with his chin down at his mate. The man just stood there wearing a flirty smile that irritated him. Jensen had been out all evening with this guy. A guy who obviously was gay if the up-and-down eye roaming he did on Josh’s body was anything to go by. “Who are you?” His jaw clenched tight, and he bit out the words.

“Oh, where are my manners? I’m Ethan.” He pointed down to Jensen, and on instinct Josh shifted to put his mate out of view from the other man. “Jensen is designing the house I’m having built.”

Like a smack to the head, Josh remembered he had seen this man before. This was the guy who’d kissed his mate. He glanced down at Jensen and shook his head in disgust. One little fight and his mate ran into the arms of this man. They had some serious talking to do.

“Do you need me to help you get him to bed?” Ethan asked as he took a step into the house.

“No!” Josh stepped in his path stopping him from coming in. “I think you’ve done enough by bringing him home.”

“Oh, trust me, it was no problem at all.” Ethan brought a hand up to brush across his lips as his eyes stared at Josh.

Josh couldn’t mistake the hunger in the other man’s gaze, but it did nothing for him. Maybe some men found Ethan’s good looks and blatant flirting to be flattering, but it only pissed Josh off. “Like I said, thank you for getting him home safe, but I got it from here.”

Without waiting for Ethan to say anything else, he shut the door in his face. Josh didn’t consider it a rude gesture, being as what he really wanted to do was punch the guy in the mouth for touching his mate.

As he carried Jensen to the bedroom, he heard Ethan’s car pull out of the driveway. He laid Jensen on the bed, and the man groaned as he rolled to lie on his side. In his drunken state, Josh thought his mate looked young. No lines of stress indented his forehead between his eyebrows. He looked at peace, and Josh couldn’t stay angry with Jensen. There could very well be a good explanation as to why Jensen had gone out with Ethan tonight. It could totally be work related.
