Annabelle ended the call and looked down at her watch. She only had a few minutes to speak to the love of her life. She really didn’t need him to say anything, she just wanted to make her point. She pulled out the gun that was in her bag and made her way over to her lover. Jacob’s eyes grew big out of fear.

“Don’t worry, my love, this bullet is not for you,” she said as she stroked his face.

“See, letting you live is the biggest injustice that I could ever do to you. Every morning when you wake up, you will have to face the truth. Everything that happened here today happened because of you. You killed not only your wife, but your innocent son. I want you to remember this for the rest of your life. I love you, Jacob… yeah, I know, that’s not your real name but you will always be Jacob to me.”

With his sobs as the soundtrack to her grand exit, Annabelle lifted the gun to her mouth, slid it in as if it were Jacob’s chocolate stick, and pulled the trigger. Moments after, the door to the house came tumbling down, almost representing what was left of Jacob's life, and the cops came rushing in.

Liar, Liar

As the cops and paramedics went around the room trying to piece things together, the lead detective walked over to the stretcher where Raymond was being tended to and asked one question.

“What happened here tonight, Mr. Mitchell?”

At first, Raymond couldn’t find the words. He racked his brain as he tried to get his thoughts together. So much had happened that night, so much was said, but there was just one thing that remained the truest.

“I lied.”

Epilogue – The Perfect Match

As Raymond lay in the hospital, the detective interrogated him. He hated the fact that he had to relive the horror that took place on Good Luck road, but it was necessary. He couldn’t believe that his lies had taken him down such an ugly road that would forever be paved with the blood of his wife and child. As much as he hated therapy at times, in that moment, all he wanted to do was see Reverend Bell and ask him one question… would he ever be okay? Raymond couldn’t imagine life without the two people he loved the most, but he also couldn’t help question if he really ever loved them at all. Because of him and his double life, they were dead. How could he love his wife and need someone like Annabelle? Sure, her body was enticing, but so was his wife’s. She was smart, but his wife was smarter, and yes she was sweet, but his wife was always sweeter. That’s when he started to think that maybe in some sick way, her crazy is what turned him on. He thought that maybe in some sick way, he was just as sick as her. Come on, he did enjoy the last piece of ass she threw at him. In some abnormal way, the fact of his wife tied to that chair being forced to watched, turned him on.

“Mr. Mitchell, did you hear what I just said?” The detective asked.

“No, I’m sorry, I was thinking about my family.”

“Well, it turns out that Annabelle, she had a record. At the age of 18, she was locked up for kidnapping her lover’s girlfriend. She got only a year since she pleaded insanity and it was her first offense. There was also another case involving a teacher, but we only had limited access since she was a juvenile when it all happened. From what I found in the documents, she had fallen for her math teacher and tried to get rid of his wife.”

Raymond’s eyes seemed as if they would pop out of his head. He thought about the beautiful young girl who he assumed was an easy catch. He loved the fact that she was so much younger than him. He thought that he would have her his way and rule her. He had no idea that she was already damaged.

“Oh my God, I guess I really didn’t know who I was dealing with,” was all he was able to say.

“The sad part Mr. Mitchell, most men never really take the time to see what’s in front of them. There had to be some sign, something that told you that she just wasn’t right upstairs.”

Raymond tried his hardest to think back to the days that he considered to be the best of both worlds, having a wife and a mistress. He thought about Annabelle’s tantrums and chucked them up to her age. He thought about the wild sex and chucked it up to her being sexually free. Finally, he thought about her, the true her. He thought about the way she moved, the things she said, her moods, her essence, and slowly, like a thief in the night, she invaded his being. Thoughts of what he would never have again shadowed the reality of his night. He, in the sickest form of humanity, actually missed her already. Who would stroke his ego? Who would fuck him like a pro and suck him damn near dry? Who would he play games with, like the couple therapy game. See, it was all a game, every last drop of it. She, Annabelle, gave him an escape, she took him away from the systematic occurrences he called life.

“No, Officer, she seemed normal to me.”

Of course
she would seem normal to Raymond, his state of insanity matched that of his dead lover.
