The next morning she didn’t
wait for him to get up. She slipped out before he awoke and left a note that
told him that she would call him later in the day. She had some things that she
needed to think about. Today was her day off so she didn’t head home right
away. Instead she took 8
th
street and walked to the park. Her mind
was heavy with thoughts of vampirism and how her life would change if she
became a bride. She let her feet meander along with no real destination in
mind, but she wound up at the park bench where Tomas had shown her his true
side last night. She sat heavily on the bench as her mind drifted off on
various tangents. People passed, but she didn’t see them. She didn’t even see
Tomas across the park. He hadn’t stalked her, but he had followed her to makes
sure she was okay because he knew that she had a lot to take in.

As she wrestled with her
thoughts internally, Sammy wondered how bad it could be to become a vampire. He
said I would have extraordinary powers, but then again I don’t know if I could
live with myself if I ever had to kill a human and drink its blood, she
thought. Will I still be the same old me when he changes me or will my whole
persona change? I hope not. I like me and so do my friends. Friends- will I be
able to have those after I change or will I only want to drink them dry every
time I see their porcelain necks? Listen to me. I sound like that guy from that
old vampire movie from the 30's. Next thing I know I’ll have put on a cape and
develop that image of “I want to suck your blood. Muhahaha.”

As she watched, a small child
with her mother came closeby. The little boy held a stuffed giraffe in his
hands and whooshed it gleefully through the air like it was some kind of
airplane or starship. Sammy watched them as the approached and smiled at the
boy when they made eye contact. The little boy beamed back at her and help up
his giraffe and as his mother ran over to her bench.

“His name is Gary and I got him
at the zoo this morning.”

“Well, nice to meet you Gary,”
Sammy said to the stuffed animal

“Timmy! Get away from the nice
lady! She doesn’t care about your stuffed toy.” The woman walked over and took
her son by the hand. She looked down at Sammy with a kind smile, “I’m sorry
that he bothered you ma’am.”

“Don’t worry about it. He
didn’t bother me at all. I was just thinking.”

“What about?” asked the curious
Timmy.

“About a life changing decision
young man. I don’t know whether to do it or not.” Sammy didn’t know why she
said it. She didn’t know these people, but for some reason when she spoke aloud
it seemed to help put it all in perspective.

“Oh,” Timmy furrowed his brow
for a second then brightened back up when he thought of what he wanted to say.
“Daddy says that everything changes.”

“So it does Timmy. So it does,”
Sammy agreed.

“Listen,” the mother looked
down at her with that same kind smile- a mother’s smile, “it’s really none of
my business, but I think I have some advice for you. You seem troubled, but I
can tell that deep down you’ve already made your decision about whether you’re
gonna go through with it or not. Here’s my advice. Go for it. I never thought I
wanted a b-a-b-y,” she spelled the words so that Timmy wouldn’t understand what
was said, but he was already distracted by a squirrel as it looked for
something to eat, “but I’m so glad that I had this little one. Sure it changed
my life forever, but it changed it for the better. And Timmy is right. His
father does say that everything changes and it does. Sometimes change is hard,
but other times it is a pleasure.”

Sammy sat for a moment and let
what the woman had said sink in. She searched within herself and realized that
the lady was right. She had made up her mind long ago. With a grin she looked
up at the woman and held out a hand.

“Thank you ma’am. You really
helped.” She shook her hand and ruffled the hair on Timmy’s head, “you too,
Timmy.”

“I’m glad I could help. Good
luck.” The woman smiled.

“Thank . . . ”

“What about Gary?” Timmy
interrupted as he held up the giraffe.

“He helped too, Timmy,” Sammy
knelt and shook one of the stuffed giraffe’s legs. “Thank you too, Gary you
were a big help. Now I hate to run, but I need to tell someone that I made up
my mind. Thank you both so much. You don’t know how much I needed this.”

Sammy turned and walked out of
the park at a brisk pace. She had made up her mind, but she didn’t know how it
would go over with those she loved. Not that there were many of those. As she
walked back up 8
th
street, she watched the people as they walked in
every direction and wondered if any of them were vampires. They probably were,
she concluded. Tomas had said that the vampire elders controlled all the world
governments and that vampires were behind every thing that happened in the
media- news, movies, television shows, games, everything. They were slowly
trying to get people to accept them so when they once again resurfaced they
wouldn’t have a war on their hands like they did in the early thirteenth century.
That had been the first and last time they showed the world that they were
real. Sammy wasn’t sure she really believed that Tomas had lived that long, but
he sometimes said things that no person born in this generation would say.

She buzzed the intercom at the
door of his apartment building and was relieved to hear his voice come through
the speakers.

“Yeah.”

“It’s Sammy. Can I come up?”

“Sammy! Come in.”

The intercom buzzed and the
door unlocked. Instead of the elevator she walked up the  steps. Even though
she had made up her mind she had started to get cold feet as she thought about
how she was to tell him what she had decided. She reached out a fist to rap on
the door, but it opened before she could knock. Tomas stood with a smile on the
other side.

“Sammy. I was worried when you
weren’t here when I woke up, but I found your note.”

“I just had some things to
think about,” she explained as he closed the door behind her and ushered her to
the couch. “I’ve made up my mind about whether I want to be your bride or not.”

“You have?” He raised an
eyebrow.

“Yes.” She let the word hang
for a moment.

“Yes you have?” He took her
hands.

“ Yes, I will be your bride. I
want to spend my life with you and the longer the better.”

“Oh Sam.” Tomas wrapped her in
a hug and kissed her cheeks. “I’m so happy you want to be with me. I love you
Sam.”

“I love you, too.” She kissed
him lightly on the lips. “How exactly will this work?”

“It is not a complicated
process,” he explained. “Once a person is bitten, they have until the sun goes
down before they turn into a vampire. Once a female is bitten, she will bond
with whichever male vampire she sleeps with next and that bond will last the
rest of her life. It will allow you to sense me for up to a hundred miles with
your mind and we will be able to communicate inside of five miles with our
minds.”

“Oh. Will it hurt?” She touched
her neck involuntarily.

“Not if we do it while we are
making love. The pleasure will override the sting of the bite. If we wait until
it is almost sundown your transformation will be quick and pleasant, but that
is up to you.”

“That sounds good. Can we eat
something first? I haven’t eaten all day and I’m starting to get a little
hungry.”

“Of course. Let me fix you my
famous Tomas Spaghetti. It is the best in the town if not the country. I
learned how to make it in Italy.”

“I can’t wait.”

Tomas and Sammy worked for an
hour to make his special spaghetti in the kitchen. She asked various questions
from time to time and found that she felt better and better about what was
about to happen. He explained to her that she would gain super strength, super
speed, increased healing, and much more. To Sammy it sounded like an adventure.
She asked if they could travel the world after she had been changed.

“We can do whatever you want to
do my dear.” Tomas agreed as he laid his napkin over his plate. “Did you enjoy
your meal?”

“It was delicious.” She drank
the last bit of wine in her glass. As she sat the glass on the table she burped
softly. “Oh excuse me. I’m so sorry.”

Tomas laughed and almost spit
his own wine onto the table. “You are one of a kind Sam.”

“It is almost sundown,” as she
looked out the window. “Should we get started?”

“When you are ready,” he
assured her.

Sam slipped off her shoes and
kicked them across the room. They landed on the couch with dual thuds and fell
to the floor. “I’m very ready.”

Tomas took her by the hand and
led her into his bedroom. She thought that she had been nervous the night
before, but now she was more nervous than she had ever been in her life. He
quickly took her mind off of her nervousness as he kissed her softly on the
neck. She shuddered under his touch and pulled him close. As they groped to
pull each other’s clothes off, their mouths found each other and they kissed
hungrily. Her tongue worked its way between his lips and met his there. As they
undressed as quickly as they could, their tongues swirled and caressing inside
their mouths. Her moan was drowned by his own as his hands grasped the firmness
of her buttocks and squeezed. Her hips bucked against him and he instantly grew
hard against her.

She pulled back and dropped to
her knees. She ran her hands down the rippled contours of his muscular body.
She took him into her mouth and felt him grow even harder. He moaned with
pleasure as she worked on him with her tongue and lips. When she thought he was
about to explode she pulled back and he jerked her to her feet. She could see
out the window that the sun was just about to set on the horizon.

“Are you ready?” he asked, his
voice husky with passion

“Yes,” she moaned.

He laid her on the edge of the
bed and moved between her legs. She bucked and moaned as he entered her and
began to move slowly. Her whole body jolted with high charged energy as he
picked up the rhythm and she began to match him thrust for thrust. The sun fell
even lower as he bent over her and kissed her. His kisses worked their way down
the side of her neck until they reached the hollow where her neck met her
shoulder. He whispered something to her, but the blood was pounding too hard in
her ears for her to hear what he had said. He tossed his head back as he thrust
and she saw his canines elongate. He buried his face into her neck once more
and something akin to pain blossomed there. She cried out in a mixture of agony
and pleasure, but he continues to bite and drink. For a moment the thought ran
through her head that he would drink her dry, but then he pulled away.

Blood formed a ring around his
mouth as he stared down at her and smiled. His canines receded and he bent
forward to kiss her once again. She could taste the blood, her blood, on his
lips and tongue and she liked it. She didn’t feel any different at first other
that the fact that she was about to have an orgasm, but then her whole body
seemed to be on fire. It started in her heart and moved down to her stomach.
From there it spread throughout her body and made her as sensitive as a live
wire to any touch. Her eyes lost focus for a brief second, but when her vision
came back it was much clearer that it had ever been before in her life. She
could see the pores of Tomas’ face if she wanted to. Her teeth hurt for a
moment and then that too was gone. Her body hurt in various places for a
moment, but then feeling would come back.

Through all of this Tomas
continued to make love to her as the sun disappeared under the horizon. When
the sun finally disappeared completely, he wrapped his arms around her waist
and lifted her from the bed in one smooth motion. Sammy’s body seemed to come
alive as the room darkened and each of Tomas’ thrusts seemed like an eternity.
Her climax built and built until she didn’t think she could stand it anymore
and then the flood walls broke and she screamed in passion. Her head tilted
back as wave after wave of sweet agonizing passion rocked her body. Between her
cries, Tomas spoke.

“Bite me!”

She didn’t think about how she
would do it Sammy leaned forward and sunk her elongated canines into the hollow
of his neck where it met the shoulder. Warm blood jettisoned into her mouth and
she drank it down. Tomas moaned over and over and she drank his blood until
they collapsed to the floor in a heap. She pulled back, panting hard, and
looked him in the eyes. He smiled at her as he panted as well.

“Am I?”

“You’re a vampire now Sammy.”
He leaned forward and they kissed, their blood mingled in each others mouths.

“That was amazing!” she
exclaimed. “Much better than the first time and I thought that was the best I
had ever had.”

“If you thought that was good,
wait ‘til we make love once you get your strength back. You haven’t experienced
anything yet.”

“How do I get my strength
back?” she questioned eagerly and laughed.

“You must consume fresh blood
and lots of it, but also you need rest.”
