“So we are bonded?”
“Don’t you feel it?” he asked
her. It took her a moment to realize that his lips hadn’t actually moved when
he spoke. “Yes you feel it,” he assured her.
“How do you do that?” she
asked.
It’s like learning to wiggle
your ears Sam. You just find the right muscles and pull them. He spoke to her
in her mind. “But most of all you need rest before you try. Right now it would
be best if you got some sleep while I go out and get you some fresh blood.”
“Are you going to kill a virgin
to get it?” she asked a bit worried.
“No.” Tomas tilted back his
head and roared laughter. “We don’t feed like that- at least not anymore. We
have special banks where we get our blood. It is donated to us by people who
are sympathetic to our cause.”
“Oh.”
“You know something.” He smiled
as he dressed.
“What?” she asked.
“I love you Sam.”
“I love you too, Tomas.”
Sammy sat on the edge of the
bed, naked, and watched Tomas get dressed and go out the door. He turned before
he closed the door and blew her a kiss. She caught it and blew one back in his
direction. When he was gone, she walked to the bathroom and looked at herself
in the mirror. The bite wounds on her neck were already almost healed, but
other than that she didn’t look any different to herself. Then she noticed her
eyes. Normally blue they were now a brilliantly bright blue. They almost seemed
to shine in the darkness of the room. That was when she realized that she had
been looking at herself in the dark. I guess there’s a few things I need to get
used to, she thought. I can’t believe I’m bonded to a vampire. Hell, I can’t believe
I’m a vampire, but at least I’m bonded to a man I love.
Tomas walked down 11
th
street toward the blood bank he always used when he was in town with a smile on
his handsome face. Women that passed him tried to get his attention, but his
mind soared through the clouds above. He was bonded to a beautiful woman and
for the first time in his long life he was actually in love. All of the others
he had loved to some degree, but none had made him as happy as Sammy. I just
wish we could live forever together, but at least we have five hundred years
together. Who knows, he thought, maybe five hundred years from now they’ll have
a cure for the reason that female vampires die and males live on. He remembered
his friend Justin who was a genius when it came to problems like that. Maybe
we’ll give him a visit soon and see what he thinks about the whole situation.
Maybe we can live together forever.
