              What matters the most

Hayden had been gone for a couple of days and Cammy was busy at work. They were short a couple of employees, so Cammy was working the register and floor that day when he walked in.

“Hey there?”

Cammy looked up to see Liam Griffin standing her store, all smiles and his usual, cocky self.

“Liam, hey, how are you? Looking for Davey? He is at lunch; he’ll be back soon if you want to wait”

“I know, already talked to him. Thought I would see how Miss Cammy was doing” Liam tried to grab her hand and Cammy pulled away.

“No hug?”

“Sure, I guess.” Cammy hugged him and Liam hugged her back, but held on for a minute and squeezed tight. Cammy tensed, then relaxed for a moment, a little caught in the feel of his soft shirt he was wearing or the softness of the skin on his exposed arms.

“Better” Liam said as he released her from his claws.

A girl in the store walked up to Liam and asked
him for his autograph of which he obliged and I watched her walk off, sashaying her ass. She was probably on cloud nine and would go and call all of her girlfriends now. I could understand where she was coming from.

“What’s this?” Liam had grabbed Cammy’s hand and was referring to the new rock she had on from Hayden.

“Hayden and I are engaged” She smiled at him.

“I know, Davey told me. You sure?”

“What?” That mad her mad.

Sure you are ready to settle for your guy?”

“I’m not settling Liam. He is everything to me and I can’t wait to be his forever.”

“Ok, ok. If he is your forever, then you shouldn’t be waiting. Got it.”

“Liam, what’s your point?”

“Point is, make sure you are sure. You are one of a kind. I have never seen or met any girl like you before, so I hope you know that you are sure before you give yourself and your life to him”

“Him? It’s Hayden.”

“Hayden, right”

“You are an asshole Liam”

“Oh am I?”

“Yes you are! I’ll call Davey and why don’t you wait for him in the back.”

“In the back? You are mad at me again?”

“Fuck yes I am.
You have such an ego. What do you want Liam? Why are you bothering me?”

Cammy started to walk away to go to the front and call Davey so she could be rid of the prick Liam Griffin. Liam grabbed her arm and pulled Cammy to the side of the store, by some instruments, out of everyone’s view.

“Cammy, sorry again, just want you to know that yes I am an asshole and I get whatever I want, and I think you should keep that in mind.”

“Liam, go away” Cammy tried to tug her arm free.

“No, listen. You love this guy and he is it right? I am it too, more than he could ever be. I want you and I won’t stop until I get you. I know that there is something in you that could want me. I’ll wait. I can give you the world, more than he will ever be able to.”

Cammy broke free of his grasp finally and walked quickly to the back room, Liam behind her. He grabbed her again and spun her around to face him. Cammy’s face was flush with anger.

“Please leave me alone. I don’t know who you think you are, but you don’t even know me, I don’t know you.”

“I know enough Cammy, and I want to know everything else about you

Liam let her arm go gently and looked at her with his amazing hazel eyes. Cammy was at a loss for words because she had never been in a situation like this. A rich, handsome celebrity
that was begging for her attention and the beautiful man that she loved, had given her heart to, and pledged her future to.

Suddenly, without warning, Liam kissed Cammy. Her just leaned in and placed his lips onto hers and pulled away. Cammy did not reciprocate the kiss. She was again at a loss for words.

“Think about it Cammy”

“Think about what man?” Davey said as he was walking into the back where they stood.

“Another signing Davey, thinking about it, right Cammy?”

Liam was covering his ass.

“Sure Liam”

“Awesome man, that would be great for this store. Everyone would love it because Detroit is your
hometown; your fan base is huge here. Good idea Cams.”

“Yep” That was all she could say while Liam was still trying to catch her eyes. She didn’t want to look at him She didn’t know how she felt.

“Let’s go to my office and hang for a few Liam” Davey was walking further into the back to his cubicle of an office, waiting for Liam to follow.

Liam leaned down again to Cammy, this time whispering into her ear
:
“You don’t have to love me, just be with me. Remember, I can give you everything he can’t and more. Think about it. You know where I am. You gorgeous fucking thing. Fucking gorgeous.”

Cammy turned and fled for the front of the store.

“Davey, got to go out, back in a bit” She yelled while passing through the doors of the store.

“Ok” Davey yelled back at her.

Cammy shouldn’t have left the store shorthanded, but Davey could handle it. She needed air. She got into her car and drove towards home. Taking out her cell, she called Hayden’s phone, but he didn’t answer. She didn’t leave him a message; he would see the missed call and would call her back as soon as he could. She still had two more days until he would be home. She needed him now. Cams drove to the condo and ran inside, slamming the door behind her, dropping to the ground, sliding against the door. Crying out of frustration from Hayden being gone and Liam kissing her and telling her the things he did, she flipped out her phone again and texted Davey that she had cramps and wouldn’t be coming back in today. She shed her clothes and showered. Putting on one of Hayden’s shirts and boy shorts she lounged in front of the TV on their couch. Still no call back from Hayden. Must be in a meeting. Cammy made herself a salad and flipped through the channels, trying to wrap her head around what had transpired today and why. The doorbell rang and Cams opened the door to find a uniformed man standing there with flowers.

“Delivery for Cammy Hudson” The delivery guy said in a high pitched voice.

“Thank you.” Cammy took the flowers and shut the door. Taking out the card on the way to the kitchen island where she was going to display them, she read:

Feel better Cammy. Liam

“Dammit” Cammy said to herself aloud.

She walked the flowers out to her
neighbor’s door and left them there, tearing up the card and throwing it into her trash inside.

How did he know where I lived? Davey must have told him I had cramps too. What now?
Should she call Liam or Davey or would that just make it worse. Why did he want her so much? Why did he have to say that he could give her more than Hayden ever could? Was that true? Her phone buzzed on the coffee table. Hayden, finally.

“Hayden, hi, where have you been?”

“Hey Cams baby. Sorry didn’t get back to you sooner. Me and one of the interns and Sylvia went surfing at a beach in Oceanside. Can you believe it, surfing, well I sort of surfed!” He was so full of excitement.

“Surfing? Wow, that’s different Hay”

“You ok baby?”

“Sure, why?” She played it off.

“You sound upset. What’s wrong?”

“Nothing Hayden. How are you? I miss you. I can’t wait until Friday.”

“I will be there and I have good news.”

“What is it?”

“I am going to work from the house there from here on out. Change of plans.”

“What do you mean Hay? You are coming back to stay, no week a month gone?”

“Nope. It’s been worked out, so I can do this from home, but…….”

“But what?”

“We have to stay in the house, not sell Dad’s house, part of the deal, but it’s going to be ours, paid for, all ours to do whatever we want with.”

“I don’t care where we live as long as we are together. Oh Hayden, I am so happy right now. Come home, come home!”

“I will Friday baby. Dad is sending some people out to the house this weekend do paint, carpet, whatever we want and I have to set up the office for myself. I have some people that want me to set up websites for them too. California has turned out all right for us. Not too bad for not having a college education yet!”

“You don’t know how happy I am right now. It’s been a shit day, but nothing matters anymore now that you are coming home to stay”

“I’m coming home Cammy, home to you.”

Hurry Friday, hurry.

Cammy forgot all about Liam for the moment, but when she went to sleep that night she brushed her fingers across her lips, the lips that Liam had kissed, and then faded into a deep sleep.

                            Fall

The house had been repainted to Cammy’s custom colors and Hayden spent every available minute he had, fixing his office, ordering equipment, all on Dr. Brock’s dime. We took the master suite upstairs for our bedroom, even though the best memories were in Hayden’s old room
downstairs; they turned it into a spare room for guests or occasional romps of their own. Cammy celebrated her 19
th
birthday in that house, their house, with Dad, Davey and Aspen by her side. They were the only people in her life that mattered the most to her. They were able to get out of the lease on their condo, and the move went just as smooth as the move into the condo.  A blanket of winter was upon them and soon they would be fighting the elements, the cold and snow for months to come, so having the house finished was a godsend. Cammy never told Hayden about Liam, the kiss, and the things he declared to her, the flowers and the watch that he had sent her on her birthday, or the numerous visits he made to the store every week.

“Hudson Music” Cammy said as she answered the store phone.

“Hey there gorgeous.” A familiar voice said on the other end of the line.

“Liam? Looking for Davey? Call the other store”

“No doll, looking for you. I already talked to Davey and Dean.”

“About…..?”

“Me and the band are having a small get together with some new material and we need you guys there.”

“Why do you need us there?”

“Because I promised to give your Dad some of the proceeds, if we can have it at the store. He said yes, of course.”

“Oh, well that’s great, thank you?”

“Yes, and it’s this Saturday, at your store, they have the details. See you then and Hayden of course”

“See you then Liam.” Cammy went to hang up, but could hear Liam saying to himself as he hung up:
My beautiful girl, I can’t wait to see
you.
Then the line was dead.

Fuck. Not what I want to do.

She called Hayden who was working from the house as always and informed him of the performance they had to go to. He didn’t have to go, since he usually didn’t come to anything at the store anymore, but Cammy made it clear that he needed to be there, for her. He had no idea why she needed him so much right now. Hayden had been moody, drifting off at times, disengaged, and she needed him there with her because of Liam. She went home that night feeling nervous about Saturday, feeling guilty about Liam, even though she had done nothing wrong.

“Happy to see you too baby” Hayden said to her as she raced up the stairs to his office and threw her arms around him, covering him in kisses.

“I missed you today”

“Me too. I am so glad that I don’t have to go back and forth to Cali anymore.”

“Me too, now we can plan our wedding.”

“You hungry Cams?” Hayden asked her as he started to get up from his desk chair.

“Yep” Cammy nodded her head up and down.

“Let’s go downstairs and get some food” Hayden started walking towards the door for the stairway.

“What’s this Hay?” Cammy asked him, staring at the computer screen.

“Work, why?” He was walking back to the computer where Cammy was standing, staring at the screen.

“Looks like more than work. You are IM’ing Sylvia.”

“For work baby, you know that” He was turning off the screen.

“Wish I could see you surfing in the water right now. Miss you. That’s not work Hayden. What the fuck?”

“Let’s go eat baby, come on” He tugged at her sweater.

“No Hayden. Tell me what’s going on here. NOW!”

Hayden bowed his head and walked towards her.

“Oh Cams. I’m an asshole.”

She knew what was coming. She needed to hear it from his lips. She started to well up and waited for him to answer.

“It’s not what you think baby. We went surfing that day and went back to her place, with Roger the other intern. She had some people over, we drank, we kissed, she wanted more, and I stopped. All I could think about was you. I fucked up”

“Did you fuck her? Be honest Hayden, tell me the truth.”

“No, I didn’t, Roger did.”

“Roger, how did that happen?”

“She is like that. There were a lot of people there, a lot of shit going on and people naked, she just wanted someone to fuck her, when I left the room, Roger stepped in”

“Fucking whore!”

“Baby, I love you. I shouldn’t have put myself in that situation. Please forgive me”

Cammy turned the screen back on to the monitor and began to IM Sylvia back.

This is Cammy Hudson, Hayden’s fiancé, of whom you will never meet, but I feel it in your best interest to stop sending messages that are inappropriate and not professional to Mr. Brock. Please find someone else to pursue. I would hate to have to let the Doctors, staff and the investors of the practice know what kind of an employee you are.

She clicked the send button and off the message went into the air, or wherever they go. A few seconds later a return IM came through.

Point taken. Make sure you know who you are marrying. Will have another staff member communicate with you for business matters from now on Hayden. Best of luck.

Hayden stood beside Cammy with a tight face watching the messages before his eyes.

“Cams. I’m sorry. I Love you”

“Hayden
, don’t. That’s that ok. If she doesn’t mean anything to you, then she shouldn’t come up again. If you didn’t sleep with her then we will get past this, if you did, you need to tell me and not hide it from me. Delete her numbers, everything, she doesn’t exist.”

“We kissed, she gave me a blow job, that’s all. She wanted more. I swear to you baby, there is nothing more.”

“Let’s go eat Hay, my head hurts and I don’t want to cry right now.”

She took him by the hand and they went to the kitchen and proceeded to make pan fried burgers and salad. Cammy picked at her plate and Hayden pushed his food around with his fork, his head hanging low. She knew that he felt like a shit. California tried to take him from her. Sylvia tried to take him from her. She
wasn’t going to let that happen, he was hers and no one else’s, forever. This was their home, their life together. Tomorrow was a new day, it was also Saturday. Liam Griffin and Lyric day.

“Let’s shower and go to bed Hayden ok?”

“Ok. Cammy. Baby, I feel so bad, I should have told you sooner. I kept telling her to stop messaging me. She’s just a slut. I don’t know why I did it”

“Shhhhhush. Please Hayden no more. It’s done.”

“You are my world and I don’t want to lose you over something so stupid. We are supposed to be planning our wedding, our life together. I’ll quit working for my Dad if you want, anything, just don’t leave me”

“Who said
anything about leaving? You are mine Hayden Brock, mine. No one can ever take my place” She kissed his chin and walked towards the bathroom for the shower.

You are my world.”

Cammy went into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. Letting the water run over her
head and onto her face, she stood and cried to herself quietly. After allowing herself only a few minutes of tears, she finished her shower, towel dried her hair, slipped on her favorite shirt of Hayden’s and went upstairs to plop into bed. Hayden was already there. He hadn’t showered and was laying there naked, staring into the dark. Cammy crawled into the bed and curled into a ball on her side, pulling the covers over her.

“I’ll always love you to the ends of the earth Cammy Sage. I have always loved you and I always will. There is not a soul in this world that could ever make me feel what I feel for you.” Hayden said in the dark. He put his hand onto her back and trailed up her spine with his fingers and massaged her neck while turning and spooning her back, his hot breath in her ear.

“Oh Hayden” Cammy turned around and found his soft lips in the dark. She ran her hands into his hair and he pulled her into his naked chest and held her there tight, sobbing low.

Cammy knew everything about Hayden, his likes, his dislikes, how he was ticklish only on the bottom of his feet, how he held his breath before he came, how he loved junk food and his love of
Motown music, how much it hurt him when his mother left, his conquests, his fuckups, everything, and he knew everything about her. They were meant to find each other at St. Mary’s. All their life events had led up to them finding each other. The thought of being without him made her sick. She didn’t want that.

Reaching for him, touching him, he followed her lead and undressed Cammy in the dark, in their bed, in their home, and they made love, staying inside her and b
arely moving, facing each other, holding one another until they were consumed with the shear need of release, the need to be deep into the other’s heart and soul. They fell asleep just as they had started, side by side, his member in between her legs and their arms holding the other tightly. The stayed this way until the morning alarm woke them for a new day, a step forward.

“Morning my love” Caressing her face with his
soft fingers, pulling a strand of hair from her mouth.

“Morning. Stay here, I’ll be right back”

Cammy fled to the bathroom and hurried to relieve herself before he left the bed. Hayden quickly ran downstairs and did the same. They met back up in the bed at the same time.

“You will be late for Hudson’s” Hay said jokingly.

“I know” Cammy winked and pulled him to her in bed and threw the covers over them.

“I know too. I’m coming with you today.”

“Yea!” She threw her arms around him under the covers.

The room smelled like sweat and sex. It was cold and the heater hadn’t kicked on but they were nice and cozy under those sheets for a while more, ravaging the other’s body, drowning in ecstasy.

“Nice of you two to show up” Davey said as
Cams and Hayden walked into the back of the store.

“Sorry brother, overslept.” Cammy gave Hayden a wink and he smiled back. She hugged Davey and all was ok at The Hudson House of Music. Time to get to work. Davey had already taken care of the details for tonight’s show. It was private and would be held in the back area, which was quite big, cons
idering how the store was in an where house, the store and equipment area only took up a quarter of the space.

“Ready for tonight?” Davey asked Hayden.

“You?”

“Yep, in fact Liam and the band are in the back part, setting up their own stuff, then will come back after we close.”

“Cool. What can I do to help?”

“Nothing man. I think it’s all covered” Davey scratched his head. He and Hayden were not close, just at family functions or the store. Liam had become Davey’s obsession.

“Cammy, Hayden.” Liam’s voice said behind them.

“Liam” Cammy gave him a small hug and he tried to hold her there without anyone noticing.

“Liam” Hayden said, extending out his hand, which he shook.

“We are going to go grab lunch, would you guys like to go?” Davey asked Cammy and Hayden.

“No thanks bro” Hayden answered in a sharp tine.

“Hey, I have today covered Cams, why don’t you guys take the day off, store is closed tomorrow anyway, come back tonight”

Cammy pulled Davey to the side.

“What’s up Daves? You are acting weird.”

She knew Davey’s face all too well. She stared at his eyes and his face went from happy to sad.

“Davey, again?”

“No, it’s Aspen. We will talk later ok. Just thought by me running the place alone today, it would take my mind off of things. Just go, see you tonight sis, ok, please?”

“Ok Davey, but we will talk later. Don’t be stupid. Breathe little brother.”

“Little by what 3 minutes? Fuck off!”

They hugged and Cammy found Hayden talking to Liam. She was nervous. What were they talking about? Her? She grabbed him by the arm and led Hayden out of the store to the car.

“What’s up?” Hayden asked her.

“Take me out to eat and then back to bed until we have to get ready for tonight. Davey’s ok. We will talk later. Let’s go”

Without words, they were off and running.

They spent the rest of the day, just as planned, eating then running errands. Between Cammy and what she made at the store and Hayden’s salary from his Dad and side jobs, they were making a great living.
They were socking away money for their wedding. It was going to be very small and private, or maybe even in Vegas, they were still undecided. With errands done they were home in time to envelope one another once more for the day before getting ready for the private Lyric show at work. Images of Hayden with Sylvia had been running through Cammy’s head all day, even though she didn’t know what she even looked like. She imagined her as a tall blonde, big fake tits and lots of makeup. She could see him kissing her, her taking him into her mouth the way Cammy did. Did he do things to Sylvia that he did with her? When they had made love last night and today Cammy tried to please Hayden in every way she knew how, hoping that he wasn’t having images run through his mind that weren’t her.
