Addison crossed her arms over her chest. “I told you that I am sorry.”

“Sorry means shit in my world.” He shook his head. “You didn’t tell me or anyone associated with me about your job interview because I make you look bad. Don’t you dare think I haven’t considered the implications of a lawyer dating an outlaw biker. I get that I’m just a fucking high school dropout who lives a life of crime, but I’m not an idiot. You’re a glorious attorney who gets high on winning. In fact, that’s how you pay for your little Mercedes and your fucking Jimmy Choos. But you still fucked me. You liked it too. Even though I chose you to be my lawyer, you chose me to be your lover. You don’t want to like how good it feels to have my cock in that tight cunt, but you do. We both know, though, our lives would be so much easier if I was the prick officer who stalks you.”

Her hands went to her hips. He waited for her to say something, but she kept her lips together, her eyes on him.

“You know, maybe that’s all we’ll ever be. Fuck buddies. But I took you to my house, bought you clothes, took you to eat, went out looking for you when I thought the damn Skulls kidnapped you, or worse. You counter with bitchin’ and complaining that you don’t get your fucking way. Tough. These are my rules. If you keep pushing me away, I’m going to get the message loud and clear.”

He tossed his boots aside. “I’m tired of fighting with you. You want to be on top, fine. You’re better than me. You’re smarter than me. You’re definitely prettier than me. You are from the right side of the tracks and I’m from the wrong. I admit it. But you won’t disrespect me. Not when we’re alone, and especially not in front of my entire club.”

Addison stared at her feet. “I made a poor decision. Am I not allowed to be wrong once in a while?”

“Yeah, but you don’t think that you are. What pisses me off more than anything is the other night you blamed me for being irresponsible for not using a condom, like you had nothing to do with that choice. How were you not irresponsible with this whole fucking job interview? That choice was all you.”

He hadn’t thought much about her being pregnant. Truth be told, he didn’t really care one way or other. If they were going to have a child, then they’d deal with it as it came. If they weren’t, he didn’t need to add more shit on top of the ever-growing pile.

“I knocked a girl up once. In high school. I told her that I’d do anything for her and the baby. I dropped out of school, got a job, saved up some money for a crib.” He paused. “I thought we would get married and have some sense of normalcy in our lives. After a few months of that bullshit, she told me she’d aborted it. The damn crib sat in my living room for nearly six months because I didn’t know what to do with it.”

He shook his head. Once memory lane opened, he knew the train would start rolling. He pulled his shirt off and tossed it to the floor. His pants went next.

“I worked my ass off at a damn construction job for five years and made nothing more than minimum wage. I found the Wicked Angels Motorcycle Club by accident and all but begged to join. The president at the time thought I’d come in handy around the clubhouse with my background in construction, so he let me prospect. I got patched a year or so later and finally felt like I was worth something. I admit I’ve done some bad stuff, but everything I’ve done I’ve had a good reason for. I understand most of my reasons are not aligned with the laws of Florida, but I don’t give a fuck.”

He pulled the comforter back and sat again. “I’m rough around the edges, but anyone looking at me can tell that. I’ll never be the guy that someone like you is supposed to be with.” He stopped then turned to look at her. “Regardless of what happens between us, you’re still the club’s lawyer. Everyone knows that and everyone is pissed at me for fucking you and fucking it up.”

She met his eyes. He knew her well enough to know that she didn’t take confrontation well. She got defensive which made her one hell of a lawyer, but a pretty crappy girlfriend. When he didn’t speak anymore, she finally took the initiative.

“I don’t know what you want me to say. I’m sorry. If that means something to you then great. I’m going to take a bath. With everything that’s happened today, I want some time alone.”

She surprised him. He’d thought for sure she’d try to get one last say in, but she didn’t. He turned back around and reached for the remote. “Fine with me.”

She disappeared from his sight and Mason found some action flick to watch. He didn’t know where he stood, but telling her his feelings had relieved some of the pressure in his chest. She had to deliberate, though, before she countered him, and he had no idea how long that would take.

Chapter Ten

Addison escaped to the bathroom before allowing her tears to fall freely. He’d ripped her a new one, and she had to admit, she deserved it. She hadn’t realised he thought he wasn’t good enough for her. Lila had hinted at it at the club, but she hadn’t considered it a reality until he’d told her. With every part of her being, she hated that she’d made him feel that way. Maybe he saw something about her that she didn’t. Maybe she subconsciously did think that about him. The judge definitely wouldn’t have considered her for the position if she had told him that she was the Wicked Angel’s president’s girlfriend. He probably would have her banned from the Florida bar.

Mason had given her a glimpse into his life, though, something she’d never really thought to ask him about. She fussed at him for not seeing her side, but she’d failed to try and see his. That was another problem for her.

She ran her bath and poured bubbles in it. He’d paid a ridiculous amount of money for a fancy hotel room when a simpler establishment would have served them well. She swiped her cheeks and began to undress.

Why would he possibly want to be with her?

The door opened and Addison glanced up from sliding the jeans from her legs. Mason stood there, filling the doorway with his bulky frame. She swiped at her cheek again and continued pulling her jeans off.

“Why are you crying?” he asked.

She folded the jeans neatly on the vanity. “It doesn’t matter.”

He moved into the large room and went to the bathtub, sitting on the edge. “It does matter. Tell me.”

“I don’t get why you want to be with me. You pointed out quite well I have very few attributes going for me. I’m sure you could do way better if you put your mind to it.” She shrugged and pulled the top over her head. “Becca’s in college. She likes working with kids. I’m sure she’d be a far better match for you.”

“I don’t want Becca.” He scrubbed a hand over his face. “Is that what you got out of what I said?”

“No.” Addison tossed her shirt aside and slid her panties off. “I got your message loud and clear. I made you feel inadequate. I disrespected you in front of your friends.”

She moved towards him then stepped into the bath tub. “We’ve got our own war going between us on top of everything else.”

He turned so that he faced her. “What do you want to do about it?”

“I don’t know.” Tears filled her eyes. “I’ve spent my whole life striving to become something that has meaning. I work hard because work is all I have. I’m sorry I made you feel like crap, I really am. I don’t even realise half the stuff that comes out of my mouth most of the time.”

He watched her, his eyes piercing blue in the bright lighting. “Addy, I don’t disrespect you. God, I’ve spent the better part of five months with you on the case. I know you are a workaholic. I half expected to take you to bed with your laptop in hand.”

She tried not to smile.

“And I know you pick fights. Most of the time it turns me on. But I don’t like being treated like I’m a criminal when I’m your lover. You either have my back, or you don’t. And I know you’re better than me. You don’t have to throw it in my face.”

She smoothed her hand over the bubbles in front of her. “I still think you’re going to grow tired of me. I kinda think you already have.”

He huffed a breath. “I’ve grown tired of the fighting. You can seriously take that bullshit elsewhere.”

“And the sex? We haven’t had sex in a while.”

His expression stayed neutral. “Why are you so insecure about sex?”

She laid back against the side. The embarrassment of that story didn’t ease even though it had been years since it had happened. She focused on something along the far wall to keep from meeting his probing gaze.

“I overheard my ex-boyfriend telling one of his friends that I was a lousy lay. We’d broken up, but we had class together in law school so I still saw him around. His friend asked him if I was good in bed and he didn’t have a high rating of me. Evidently, I’m as fun as a dead body, if you’re into that sort of thing.” She scrunched her nose. “He even gave him examples of our love life which proved to be more mortifying.”

Mason chuckled. “So you think that because of one prick that you’re not good enough? That I’m going to go fuck some girl at the club unless you become some porno queen sex goddess?”

“I’ve seen you fuck them. You can’t say you don’t enjoy it.”

“No, I did enjoy it. Very much. I enjoy fucking you more.” She narrowed her eyes. He continued, “Most of those girls, though, were simply there because I was too damn lazy to jack myself off. Why waste my effort when I’ve got a willing body to do the work for me? Or they kept yapping about how I needed an old lady and they were the prime candidate. It starts out with their mouth, then it goes to a cunt. If she’s willing, I’m taking. Most girls are willing too, because it’s good status to be the president’s bitch.”

That was good to know.

“Isn’t it awkward? You know that girl’s been with your friend, but you take her anyway because she’s willing to give you a blow job?”

“Sometimes it can be awkward. But everyone knows you’re mine and I’m going to keep it that way.”

Tears filled her eyes again. Her emotions must be on full speed tonight. She hadn’t cried so much in her life and she’d already shed more tears than she was comfortable with. She swiped at them, annoyed.

“I’m still yours?”

“Yes.” He reached in to cup his hand in the bubbles then splashed her.

Addison tried her best to act offended. The tears vanished almost immediately. When he started laughing, she splashed him back. He stood and climbed in the bathtub, grabbing her arms and pulling her to him. His mouth found hers as he wrapped her arms around his neck. This was what she wanted. This moment. Maybe she did demand too much of him without ever really telling him what she wanted. She straddled him, kissing him for all she was worth. She didn’t like him mad, especially not at her.

“I like you playful.” Addison met his eyes. “I definitely want more of that.”

He gripped her hips. “What else do you want?”

She pressed her forehead against his. “You to open up more.”

He brought his hands to her face. “About what?”

“Your life. Lila told me some of the details. She said your mom sold you for dope?” Addison caressed the back of his neck with her fingers. “That’s terrible. And she also said that you were homeless?”

He smoothed his hands along her sides. “Lila has a big mouth.”

Addison tilted her head to the side. “Does it make you feel uncomfortable to talk about it?”

He huffed out a breath. “I don’t know. It’s not the most flattering time in my life. It definitely doesn’t compare to your life.”

She kissed him. “Do you really think I’m that shallow?”

He brushed a strand of hair from her face. “No.”

“Then stop putting yourself down.” She kissed his cheek. “You don’t have to compare yourself to me. I’m not perfect. Today obviously proved that.”

He chuckled, agreeing with her. “I grew up in foster care. I had trouble in school and eventually dropped out when Kelly told me she was pregnant. Kelly was my high school girlfriend and she let me stay in her house when I didn’t have anywhere else to go. Kelly and I didn’t make it that far, but she’s still in my life. She owns and runs DC house. The Wicked Angels shares a profit with them for providing protection to Kelly and her girls.”

Addison wound his hair around her finger. “You broke up because of the abortion?”

“We broke up because I couldn’t be in a relationship with her. Kelly wanted happily ever after and I tried. It wasn’t enough. I didn’t know anything about anything and she needed more from me than I knew to give.” He shifted slightly, his hands gripping her ass. “You’ll probably meet her at some point. I still care about her, but it will never work with us.”

Addison smiled and leant down to press a kiss to his chest. “More women in your life.”

He cupped her cheeks. “You’re forbidden to fight with her. I mean it. Kelly is an escort, but she’s different than the other girls.”

Addison stared into his eyes. “Okay. You act like I’m a boxer or something.”

He shook his head. “You went all Rocky on Kinsey.”

Addison let a grin escape. “I made up with Becca, though. I think she’s my friend.”

He moved his hands down to squeeze her breasts. “Your tits are way better than hers.”

He kissed the hollow of her neck. Her nipples hardened against the palms of his hands, her body responding to his touch. She dropped her face forward so that she breathed the scent of his skin. He smelt delicious. Her lips brushed along the side of his neck as his thumbs graced her nipples.

He reached for her face and he leaned in to kiss her. Addison opened to his seeking tongue and moaned as his taste flooded her mouth. Her fingers curled against his chest, scraping lightly. This was how their relationship should be. They weren’t supposed to keep their hands off each other. Addison pulled back, realising how much her feelings had changed for him. She went from fighting her feelings to accepting them then being afraid to lose him.

“For the record, you’re the best fuck I’ve ever had.”

She laughed, taken off guard. She tightened her arms around his neck. He allowed her to hold him for a long while, letting the room drift into silence. He stroked her back while she lay her head on his shoulder, eyes closed.

“Are we okay now, princess?”
