“And why is that?” he asked, even though he knew what she was thinking; when they were together it was impossible for him to keep his hands off her. They both grinned then, and Jack thought how much he’d missed hearing her voice, seeing her smile, feeling her body under his. He needed to feel her now. “Where is Daniel?”

“He’s in town with Anika.”

She was the native woman they’d hired as a nanny. The boys loved her, and she took very good care of them.

Jack was eager to see his oldest son, to see how much he’d grown, to answer his endless questions about the voyage Jack had just completed, but he could wait if it meant having a quiet moment with his wife. Perhaps the baby was going to sleep? He was no longer tugging on her hair, and his eyes were half closed. “Will he sleep now?” he asked quietly.

“I think so. Take him and put him down,” she said, as she lifted Geoffrey into Jack’s waiting arms.

Experienced in the art of putting a baby down for a nap without disturbing him—so that he could spend time alone with his gorgeous wife—Jack carried the nodding, tow-headed boy into his room and laid him in his little bed.

By the time Jack reached their bedroom, Katherine was already removing her dress. Jack made quick work of his clothing, haphazardly tossing the sweaty, dirty garments onto the floor. Desire pulsing in his veins, he pulled her naked body into his arms and kissed her, plunging his tongue into her sweet mouth. Katherine reciprocated, sucking him in, letting him know how much she wanted him inside her. He swept his hand across her back, along her spine and down over her hips, coming to rest on her behind. Cupping her buttocks, he pulled her higher, as he shoved one knee in between her thighs. For a minute he held her there, riding his firm thigh, one hand squeezing her derriere, while the other reached between their bodies to fondle a firm nipple. Moisture trickled over his hand, and Katherine arched her back and rotated her hips, moaning and grinding her mons against his aching erection. Jack groaned. God, how he wanted her!

Bending down he took the offered nipple into his mouth, warm breast milk flowing over his tongue as he suckled at his wife’s plump tit. Katherine moaned even louder, pressing his head closer with both hands. As usual she responded to him like no other woman ever had, and he still wanted her more than he’d ever wanted any other woman. She was perfection! Her breasts were much fuller since giving birth to their sons—not that he had any complaints—but otherwise her figure was as slender as it had been when she was a girl. Her skin was like silk, soft and yielding compared to his hard, muscled strength. And unlike his, her skin felt cool and clean. Suddenly recalling his travel-worn condition, Jack released her breast and held her apart from him, his big hands easily circling her upper arms, as he gazed into her sky-blue eyes.

“Sweetheart, I need a bath.”

“But you need
me
more,” she responded, and he knew she was right. He had to have her, now

In the next instant she was flat on her back on the bed, and he was buried deep inside her.
This
was what he needed most, and he would never let anything or anyone take it from him, ever again. Jack had found his destiny.
