Melissa had become a whiz at all things electronic and computer driven.  She’d even invented new ways for their surveillance team to better utilize their equipment.  Recently she’d begun to hold on some of her knowledge, having discovered a few things of late that disturbed her.

She searched the world through the computers and  using the two remaining hidden space stations and their satellites.  She was hoping to find her Bonded mate, like her dad had discovered her mom.

It was during such a search for her intended, that no one knew she was doing, that she discovered there were some discarded computers in the lab parts room.  At first she didn’t believe what she had uncovered.  It had to be a mistake.

She knew her dad had been more on edge the past few weeks.  She’d seen it in his tense shoulder muscles, his stance, and the flashes of fear she’d seen in his eyes a few times when he’d left his office and didn’t know she was around or any one had noticed him.  He seemed to be on his computer more of late and she was wondering if the government was about to catch up with them.  She surely hoped not.  No way did she want to leave Earth!

Melissa feeling the building need within her genes to find a mate to Bond with began to do her own computer research, covertly and often.

Within a month Melissa was certain she knew what the real reason was they were kept on this island.

Her great-grandfather was the reason for the whole situation.

Upon studying the situation in detail she came to a conclusion that she knew was almost a desecration of their beliefs on Bonding.

CHAPTER 10  *  *

MYSTERY REVEALED

“David!  Hi, I’m your sister, Melissa,” Melissa announced in quiet subdued tones as she greeted her brother for the very first time via their computer video camera. She’d been sending him messages, coded, and had protected their location from him for the past six weeks.

Both now knew what had really happened regarding their father’s and their mom, and their grand-dad’s team.  Each knew about the identical twin situation, though it took a while for David to wrap his mind around it.  It seemed too alien to him for anyone to do that to another person, separating them at birth and having them live a lie.  However, to discover his mom was alive and safe, had restored his heart to his normal beat again, for the first time since she was kidnapped.  The very hardest and soul wrenching part had been keeping all this information from his grieving and heartbroken dad.

David and Melissa had decided they needed to evaluate everything and try to decide how to handle it and how to bring their parents back together safely before sharing with anyone else.  Uniting the entire Jontu family was the goal.  How that was going to be accomplished without a killing scrap or one of their dad’s insanity hadn’t been discovered just yet.  He’d even kept this secret from Elizabeth, his wife, who was the other half of his soul.

David’s face glowed with excitement as he gazed at his sister’s smile and noticed the nervous twitch of her lips that was identical to his mom’s.  In fact, he was stunned to discover that his sister was simply a younger version of Melody, except for her hair and eyes.  She was truly a beauty beyond any other than his own wife.  He fought tears.

Melissa sent him a video of her family as they shared a recent meal together.  She’d set up the recording to take some of the shock away, as seeing her own dad’s twin had knocked her for a loop when she’d first discovered he existed.  She hoped to help prepare David.

During the video of the meal she’d brought up the fact that she was wondering when and if she could ever meet her brother.  Her dad had tried to get her to change the subject, but her mom took up where she’d stopped.  Melody had left the table in tears, grieving over her family that was in seclusion.

She noticed that her dad had new strain lines developing on his face, around his mouth and on his forehead.  She hadn’t asked to be cruel, but wanted David to know he was very much missed and deeply loved.

“Hi Sis!  It’s a joy to finally get to see you, face to face.  The video you sent nearly had me undone.  They
are
identical, I couldn’t find a single difference between them.  They even have the same mannerisms and speech patterns.  It’s uncanny!  But I’m certainly thankful for you sending it.  I plan to use it to show dad that she still thinks she’s with him.  Let’s hope that will help him some.”  David sat back and looked all around to make sure no one came into the room.  He had his back to a wall while sitting at his desk and he had even scanned for any surveillance devices that weren’t there last week.

Melissa sighed and fought tears herself.  “It’s hard to believe what they both have been through.  The pain and agony has to be beyond anything I can comprehend. Mama has always talked about you . . . and Dad has too.  He feels a real affection toward you, David, I’ve seen and felt it many times.”

       David smiles and says, “Thanks.”

They both sit quiet for about half a minute.

Melissa asks, “What do you think Mom will decide?”

David let loose a harsh laugh.  “That’s the kicker, isn’t it?  If she stays with your dad, which I don’t think she would do, being angry with him for taking her away from her family, then your dad will die from grief.  Also, if she stays with your dad, mine will kill him.  Talk about love and war!  This ole Earth hasn’t seen anything like what that scenario would be like!”

“What if we can talk her into staying with both of them?” Melissa asks with a sudden quirky smile.

It’s the same smile that David has seen all his life on his mom’s face when she was being quirky, which was most of the time.  He already adored his baby sis!

He laughs so hard she retorts, “What?!  Maybe it could happen!”

David sobers and asks, “Have you ever seen them when they’re getting frisky with each other?”

The roll of Melissa’s eyes and the snicker added with a snort that follows gave him the answer.

David states, “I don’t know of a man alive who would sit still and tolerate that in front of his face, when it’s his bonded mate reacting like that to another man.  I do believe they will commit murder, and that first degree.”

Melissa burst into tears.  Holding up her finger she turns away from the camera and gets out of her chair so he can’t see her.  Crying is a rare thing for her, but the idea of her dad fighting or hurting his brother or someone hurting him was more than she could tolerate for the moment.

“Melissa, I’m sorry for upsetting you.  Come back please!  We’ll work out some kind of plan where they all stay alive.  But, we have to consider all the alternatives.”

Melissa heard her brother and knew he was sincere.  After blowing her nose and drying her eyes she returned to her seat.  She called Marcie to come to her.

“What you got there?” David asked in awe.

Smiling her brightest smile she says, “Let me introduce you to my only dear friend, this is Marcie.”

David felt the sadness radiating from her and for the first time understood that their isolation wasn’t fun and not having family or friends was terrible.  They
had
to find a workable solution to what seems like an impossible situation.  The sooner the better for everyone.

Jonathan J had gotten reports for the past two months from his grandfather that there were some scrambled transmissions coming from his brother’s home, but where they are going could not be determined, they were too encrypted for their scientists to decipher.  He’d even considered for a moment to see if Melissa could discover what the messages were about.  But, that was impossible.  He didn’t want her having any contact with his twin’s people.  He feared his world crashing down on him and destroying him completely.

Melissa was sprawled out on the sand beside their private waterfall.  Her mind had been in turmoil worrying over how to save her dad.  Never did she want to be separated from either of her parents.  David had assured her it was hell.  But he was beginning to heal, he said, knowing his mom wasn’t being kept as some kind of sex slave by some degenerate crazed perverted fan.

Marcie was busy hanging from a nearby tree, chattering away at some monkeys who loved to hang around and try and take her dolly from her.  It was a game they played.  Melissa had ordered two other replacement dolls in the event Marcie’s is stolen away or destroyed.

Now that she and David were communicating life had new meaning for her.  David even encouraged her to search among his friends to see if any Stirring of the Bond was noted.  He claimed his friends were about the smartest and best men on Earth today.  She believed him because she felt mighty proud to be his sister.

They’d both done experiments using their DNA and had concluded that they were
whole
and not half brother and sister.  In a way their mom was married to twin halves of the same person.  Which was freaky in itself when they both discussed it.

       “Sweetheart, is anything bothering you?”

Is was her mom doing the asking.

Melissa sat up and dusted off the sand while watching her mom take a seat on one of the recliner chairs.  “Mom, I’ve just been thinking.  What if I can’t find a man to Bond with?  Will I be forced to die from grief in ten years time?”

Melody looked completely stunned.  “What are you saying?  Of course you’ll find a Bonded mate!  He’s out there somewhere, I just know it.”

“Mom, how am I to find him when I’m forced to stay in hiding?  I’ll be middle-aged before we ever get to leave this place, or so I’ve about decided.  My future is out there,” she uses her arms to wave at air.

Melody looks sad and asks, “Have you shared your fears with your father?”

“I did earlier.  He just says, things will change.  He even mentioned that he hasn’t ruled out taking us all back to H’trae and visiting until things cool down here.”

Melody gasped.  “Oh no he didn’t!  There is no way I am leaving the rest of my family and friends, he can just think about another way!”

To calm her mom she asked, “Mom, does being Bonded make you happy?  Will it be something wonderful when and if it ever happens to me?’

Melody’s frown disappeared and she smiled back at her daughter who looks like she’s twenty-four and her sister, her twin sister.  “Oh, sweetie, I am very happy with your father!  I fuss and fume too much perhaps but I do adore the wonderful man.  He’s part of my very soul.”

Jonathan came out to the garden and picked up Gracie and placed her on his shoulder.  He brought her a treasure, in the form of a peanut.  Gracie went bonkers over peanuts.  After placing one between his lips she kissed his cheek and then took the peanut.  After a few more she began snaking her tiny arm into his pants pocket so she could steal her a handful.

“Oh no you don’t little lady!” Jon warned as he pulled her arm out from his pocket and pried open her peanut filled hand.  When she kissed him on the cheek again, he gave in, giving her back all the peanuts he’d taken from her.  “You taught her how to win my heart, didn’t you?” he accuses Melissa with a laugh.

“It’s a girly thing, Daddy.  We learn real early how to get what we want from the males around us.”

Melody laughs.  “All you had to do was bat those long black eyelashes and mutter the words, ‘Daddy can I have it?’ to get anything your heart desired.”

Melissa smiles and admits, “At least I didn’t ask  for anything like a pony or my own airplane.”

Jonathan J picks up Melody, takes her seat and tucks her back into his lap.  Looking over at his daughter he states, “Yes, we were fortunate for that, weren’t we Mel?  Your requests were more extraordinary, such as, ‘Dad will you buy me a Proton microscope’ or ‘I could sure a hyperbaric chamber to aid my studies, Dad.’  And the last was requesting a golf cart so you can whiz about all over the island.”

Melissa smirks and admits, “At least I ask for cool gifts, and all are to benefit mankind.”

Melody inquires, “How is a golf cart supposed to benefit mankind?”

With a straight face Melissa explains she was telling the truth.  “There is a flower that I’ve discovered in the back area that contains a unique chloroform that heals wounds quickly when rubbed onto the area.  Burns heal particularly fast and without scaring.”

Melissa saw the question on her mother’s face so she headed her off before asking.  “I’ve used mice, Mom.  That’s usually what I use to do my experiments and none are overly painful.  I can’t stand to see anything suffer, so don’t worry.  I’ve been trying to find a replacement for the healing salve from H’trae that Dad used on your arm the first day you were together.  I’ve hoped to discover something similar here on our home planet.”

“But why the golf cart?” Melody asked.

“Oh, well, the flower seems to only bloom once her day and that’s in the early morning hours.  So I hurry and get it before the blossom closes.”  Melissa always had to have three security people with her, per her dad’s orders, when she took the cart out.
