He left her vein, sealing the punctures with swipes of his tongue, then looking down at her. He held her loosely around her shoulders and moved his hips faster, his earthy forest scent adding another layer to all the sensations.
Ecstasy arrived on a tremendous wave. When he began to roar, she reached the pinnacle, her cries mingling with his. She savored the sound of Ian’s release as it echoed around the cavern over and over. She felt as though she was listening to the birth of the universe, a great cataclysm of sound and power.
When the last of her pleasure drifted away and he’d released fully, he eased down, slowly levitating them both into the water. She caressed his face, loving the look in his eye of both wonder and adoration.
She felt the same way, caught up in the beauty of all that had happened between them. He floated her in the water for a few minutes, just holding her and whispering his love. Everything was changed and made new.
After a few minutes, she was ready to leave the cave. She turned into him and slid her arm around his neck, kissing him once on the lips. “All I want now is to return to your cabin and share your bed. How does that sound?”
“Like heaven.”

Later, Ian led Regan back onto his deck to enjoy the last of the night. Because they were both naked, he’d wrapped them up in a comforter. The bond helped him to feel how content she was, and her contentment filled him with nothing short of joy.
When he’d brought her back to the cabin, he’d taken her to his bedroom and made love to her again. But it wasn’t the quick, fiery lovemaking like at the cave. This time, he took it slow and with every touch, every kiss, every caress let Regan know how much she meant to him.
Now as he held her close, he couldn’t believe so much love and meaning, so much power and yes, forgiveness, had come to him. He felt like a new man, someone who could move into the future with more to give his woman and his realm.
The woods were alive with night birds and the river rolled on and on. Stone had said they were meant to accomplish something together, but he’d never imagined it would be to uncover the treachery in his own realm. But in doing so, he’d also removed a formidable ally from Margetta’s forces.
The Nine Realms was facing a critical turning point with the Ancient Fae. But Ian had a profound sense that the final showdown with Margetta would belong to Stone. Come nightfall, he would contact his fellow mastyr and offer to serve him in whatever way was needed.
For now, he savored what had been given to him. He felt blessed far more than he deserved. But he had enough sense not to refuse the bounty.
“I love you.” He embraced Regan more fully and took pleasure in the way her whole body responded to him, moving in a slow sensual glide.
Still facing away from him, she reached up with her hand and caressed his face. “The blood rose bond is heaven.”
“It is.”
He didn’t know what this was like for other mastyrs and their bonded blood roses. But for him, he felt as though he’d finally come home after a long, difficult voyage.
Regan was his home. That’s what he knew. And from this point forward, through however many years would be given to them, she always would be.
