Hey, Cade.
Come here a sec’.” she called.

Cade veered around and then lumbered towards Everly and her sister. Birdie gasped stepping back. Everly held her hand out to pet him gently on his soft head. Cade growled with satisfaction when she scratched behind his ears.

“Hey, Babe. Mind shifting for me?” she asked.

Cade grunted and stiffened his body. The nutty brown fur started to recede from all parts of his skin. Only seconds later, a perfectly naked man stood before them.

Everly handed Cade a towel. But not before, Birdie got a few moments to admire Cade’s ample-sized
girth
.

“Well, well... I’m a little frightened but mostly intrigued...” Birdie said with a look of scheming in her eyes. She didn’t know how, but she just
knew
that she had seen Cade somewhere before.

Cade gathered up the heavy logs to bring them in the cabin. As Everly started to wash the dishes in the kitchen, she heard heavy footsteps from behind her. Cade shed his coat on the counter. His dark red eyes looked upon her, mindlessly scrubbing away in a dowdy sweatshirt and tight fitting leggings—which nicely outlined her curves.

He dried off the dishes as Everly set them down to her side. Everly caught him gazing... “What?”

“Nothing,” Cade replied, allowing his hands to drift up her hips.

He then fully inhaled the scent of her hair, pulled up in a messy bun. He then started to kiss the back of her neck, where he knew she couldn’t resist.

“Stop...” Everly laughed in a giggling fit. “We need to go over that paperwork I’ve been talking about. I need you to sign off on those deeds...”

Cade didn’t stop instead he fully groped Everly’s hips. She relaxed back in Cade’s embrace as he let his hand reach lower underneath the front waistband of Everly’s leggings. Breathlessly, she leaned back letting Cade take control as he moved his fingers in circles over her clit. A breath choked in Everly’s throat when his fingers invaded her heat.

“What if Birdie catches us....” Everly exhaled, watching birdie read a magazine on the kitchen table.

“She’ll never know,” he growled.

A long growl released from deep in his chest, when he felt her luscious body shivering against him. Everly didn’t expect to come so soon. But Cade knew what her body desired, much more than she did.

Birdie briskly rushed in the kitchen with a shocked look on her face. Cade quickly drew his warm hand up from Everly’s heat. Everly turned around trying her best not to seem completely undone.

“OH MY GOD!” Birdie screeched, holding up a tabloid magazine with Cade’s face splashed all over it. She slapped Cade on his hard shoulder. “I
knew
I had seen you before. “Cade Forrest! What are you doing up here holing up with my big sister?”

Cade studied the photos. It was him just dressed up and more fancy looking.

Cade shifted around to Everly.

“Did you know about this?” he asked her, wanting an explanation.

Now, the truth was out and Everly couldn’t pretend anymore.

“Yes... I knew,” she replied, anxiously rubbing her arms.

And then the memories started flashing in Cade’s mind. Everything from how he and Everly first met to the night she stormed out of the restaurant.

The old Cade Forrest was back.

Birdie loved watching the two of them get caught up in a whirlwind of drama.

Cade lurched fast outside of the house. Enraged, he couldn’t believe Everly had led him on this entire time. He trusted her. Shared his secrets... and it was all for a lie.

Everly quickly followed after him.

“Cade!” she hollered.

He ignored her.

“CADE!”

Finally, he turned.

“It’s true, I lied,” Everly confessed, staring down at her feet. “But that’s before I knew, how sweet you could be. Before last week, I thought you were just some spoiled rich man who was hell bent on destroying my father’s farm.”

Cade knew, that in his old life, he had been a ruthless businessman willing to do whatever it took to get what he wanted—no matter what the cost.
How could he be angry with her for being the same?

“I’m not gonna stand here and ask for your forgiveness. But I just have one question,” Everly started to ask, looking into Cade’s dark red eyes. “If you’re a bear, why do you care so little about destroying your own habitat to build these stupid hotels?”

Cade glanced off, and began to walk away.

“Be ready to move out tomorrow, I’m bringing in my construction crew...” he roared coldly.

Everly still couldn’t give up, she had to try everything in her power to keep control of her daddy’s farm.

“After everything that’s happened between us you’re still going through with it?! Don’t do this to spite me, Cade!” she shouted, feeling like she and Cade were further apart than when this whole thing started.

Cade didn’t turn back, and didn’t care to see the tears welling in Everly’s eyes.

Everly cried in her hands, feeling like she lost everything.

Chapter Seven

E
verly woke up to the sound of Cade’s construction crew moving in the next morning. She rushed to her window to see if she could spot Cade.

Birdie sat on her couch with her legs crossed at the knee. Birdie looked her sister up and down while chomping on an apple. At this point, Everly thought she’d truly run out her welcome.

“What are you
still
doing here?” Everly sighed. “Don’t you got someone else’s perfectly good life to ruin?”

Birdie snorted. “Don’t you sass me! I’m not the one who lied and lost Daddy’s farm. Look, I know you and I don’t get along so much—but let me give you one piece of advice.”

Everly rolled her eyes.
What could Birdie possibly teach her?
Birdie could barely handle the problems in her own life.

“I’ve never seen you as happy as you’ve been over the past couple of days. If you really like this man or werebear, you two need to suck it up and find some way to make things work. Or, you’ll both regret it...”

Birdie took another bite out of her apple. “It would do a whole lot of good if the two of you weirdos just swallowed your pride and forgave each other. Believe me, I know. I still regret ditching our father’s funeral.”

Everly couldn’t believe it, but she agreed with her sister. That’s when she swung open the door and saw Cade speaking with the crew with a hard hat on.

“Cade...” she uttered, she looked upon him now dressed not in flannel and dirt covered jeans, but a crisp clean suit.

Cade rotated around, stopping her before Everly could finish her thought.

“We’re leaving...” he grunted. “I’m sending the crew home.

Everly shook her head not understanding.

“You made me realize, that I really wasn’t mad at you...I was mostly angry with myself. Angry and alone, and that’s why I was really upset with you. And that’s why I like to build these projects. They just make my life seem less empty—”

Everly could hardly believe what she was hearing. She noticed as Cade dug into his suit jacket and pulled out a rolled up piece of paper. He handed it off to Everly.

Everly grabbed it.

“What’s this?” she asked, looking into his firey red eyes.

“It’s the deed to your honey farm. I’ve already signed it over to you,” he growled. With the tears starting to streak down her cheeks, Everly could hardly even muster a thank you.

“Can we just press the reset button on everything that’s happened and start from the beginning?” Cade suggested, in his low dark tone.

Everly couldn’t believe he’d actually take her back. She didn’t say a word, she only wrapped her arms around Cade’s strong neck.

“I never wanted anything serious with any woman until, I met you—and tasted your honey...” Cade said and shrugged.

He and Everly walked arm and arm back to the cabin.

“Speaking of honey...” Cade growled with a grin. “Do you got any extra jars just lying around?”

Everly played coy. “Maybe, it depends on what you’re willing to do to get one...”

Groowwwlllll!

A cocky smile stretched across Cade’s cheek. Everly laughed as he chased her into the house.
