Cunobelin

King of the Catuvellauni of southeast England in the first half of the 1st century
ad
. At his death in about ad 40, he was the most powerful native leader in southern Britain. One of his claims to fame is the minting of coins which appeared in considerable numbers during his reign. His burial place is thought to be the Lexden Tumulus in Colchester. A romanticized version of his life is the subject of Shakespeare's play,
