Gray noted the time, then directed the meeting to the other cases they had open at the moment. He still had other clients, even though Aaron was, by far, the most important person in Gray’s heart.

Frowning at his computer screen, Gray calculated some figures in his head as he worked on designing a security system for one of his newest clients. His door opened and he glanced up to see Kaplan look around the edge. He waved his friend in while he finished inputting numbers.

“What’s up?” He hit the save button and stretched his arms above his head to get the kinks out of his back.

“I just got some more information on those pictures. I dug around a bit after Tina sent me the money records.” Kaplan tossed the folder he carried onto Gray’s desk. “Seems like Broomfield really was involved in getting those pictures out to the media.”

“Seriously? You can trail them right to him?” Gray started to open the file.

“No.” Kaplan grimaced. “But what I have is one of Broomfield’s closest friends writing a check out to Nicco Barias for the exact amount in Nicco’s account. I guarantee that the man didn’t do anything without Broomfield’s permission. I also talked to a few contacts in the media. I have it on very good authority, and verified by two other sources, that the same friend sent those photographs to the media.”

“Well at least we have that part of the case solved. The rest is up to the Bureau and the DC police department. Hopefully, they’ll catch the bastard killing young men before another one dies.”

Kaplan fidgeted slightly and Gray eyed him.

“Do you have something else to tell me?”

“Doesn’t it worry you that all the men killed bear a striking resemblance to your boyfriend?”

Gray rested his elbows on his desk and pressed his fingertips to his temples. “Yes, it does. That’s one reason why I take him to work and pick him up at night when he’s done.

Aaron might not think there’s much of a threat, but my gut tells me not to get complacent and overlook that fact.”

“Well, thank God he works in the White House. There can’t be a safer place in the country for him to hang out. It’s probably just a coincidence.”

Gray didn’t believe in coincidences, but hopefully, his gut was wrong this one time.

“Thanks for the update. Type it in and print the report off. I’ll give it to Aaron when I go get him tonight.”

After the door shut behind Kaplan, Gray picked up his cell phone and dialled Aaron’s number.

“Hey, Gray.”

The happiness in Aaron’s tired voice brought a smile to Gray’s face.

“Hello, baby. How you holding up?”

Aaron’s sigh held exhaustion and tension. “It’s a zoo around here. Broomfield’s taking advantage of the hysteria to establish himself as the upholder of American values.”

Gray snorted. “Well, I have news about your case that might make you a little happier.”

“Really? Spill it,” Aaron ordered.

“Yes, sir. We traced those pictures of the President with the dead guys. The photographer sold them to a close personal friend of Broomfield. So, I’m thinking the President’s press secretary could figure out a way to spin the information to make the V.P.

look bad.”

“Thanks, love. I’ll let Rick and Cameron know.” Another sigh came over the phone, this one softer.

“What’s wrong?”

He could hear the sound of walking, then a door opening and closing. He assumed Aaron left whatever room he was standing in to go into the Rose Garden for some privacy.

“It’s this whole Blaine Matthews thing. I just don’t understand why he didn’t listen to Wetherby and keep quiet about Rick being out of touch all those times.”

“No one, not even the President, is above the law, Aaron.” He interrupted Aaron’s protest. “I’m not saying Douglas had anything to do with these murders, but it looks suspicious, that’s all I’m saying. Every angle needs to be investigated, whether it pans out or not.”

“But Rick didn’t have anything to do with those murders, Gray. I know the man. He isn’t capable of that kind of violence. If I was truly paranoid, I’d think someone was trying to set him up. But why would anyone do that?”

“There are hundreds of people who don’t like Douglas and they have thousands of reasons why.” Gray shook his head, even though Aaron couldn’t see him. “Don’t go looking for trouble that isn’t there, sweetheart. You guys focus on damage control and seeing if you can make Broomfield impotent. Let law enforcement deal with the murders.”

“You’re right. I just hate all this shit.”

“I know. Tell you what. When we get back to my place tonight, I’ll give you a massage, get rid of all that tension you’re carrying around.”

“M-m-m…that sounds nice.”

Gray’s cock stiffened when Aaron’s hum reached his ear. “You, me, and massage oil.

It’ll be more than nice.”

Someone yelled Aaron’s name in the background.

“I have to go.”

“Call me when you’re ready to head home. Try to relax a little. Things will work out.”

“I love you,” Aaron whispered.

“I love you, too.”

Gray hung up and tossed his phone onto his desk. After standing, he moved to the window, staring out at the traffic on the street. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and thought about how his life had changed in just a short time. Even a month ago, he’d been alone, working long hours to fill up the emptiness in his life. Now, he couldn’t wait to quit for the day because he knew that, eventually, he’d have the man he loved in his arms and bed.

“I can’t just accuse the Vice President of the United States of being behind those pictures,” Rick argued.

Aaron rubbed his eyes. They’d been back and forth over the same argument for the past hour. “Why are you trying to protect him? He’s out for your blood or haven’t you turned on the television today?”

“I’m not trying to protect him, but I just can’t stoop to his level on this one. What if I’m the one who ends up looking bad? The last thing the United States needs right now is a dog fight within the White House walls. Not only would it upset the American people, but it would clue the rest of the world in on our internal turmoil. I think we should distance this office from whatever is found out regarding Broomfield. What he’s done isn’t a criminal offence, so we have to go about it in an entirely different way.”

“How?” Aaron asked.

Rick pulled a large manila inter-office envelope out of his desk drawer. He held up the small file Gray had given Aaron the previous night and dropped it into the envelope. “See that the House Minority Leader gets this.”

“Alan Pendelton? Why him and not Nathan?”

Rick smiled. “Because if Alan does the right thing and seeks impeachment against Broomfield, I plan to ask Nathan to be my new Vice President.”

Aaron nodded in understanding. “Good idea. What do we do about Broomfield in the meantime?”

“Ignore him as much as possible.”

“Yeah, but while we’re ignoring him, he’ll still be out there trying to ruin you,” Aaron argued.

“And when the American people find out exactly what Broomfield’s been up to, he’ll be the one looking like an ass. People may not approve of my sexuality, but I believe if they compare a man of character to a man like Broomfield, I’ll be the one that comes out on top.”

Aaron stood and took the envelope from Rick. “How do I get this to Pendelton?”

“You hand it to him. Use your best judgement on the whys but make sure he thinks I had nothing to do with it.”

That would be easy enough. He’d gone to Gray on his own to get the very information that was inside the envelope, so he really wouldn’t have to lie. “Okay.”

“I’ll meet you at the bus stop,” Aaron told Gray later that evening.

“Why not in our usual spot? I don’t like the idea of you walking outside by yourself,”

Gray argued.

Aaron gripped the phone. Although Gray’s voice had him hot and hard, Gray’s words stung in an entirely different way. “I’m a big boy. I can handle walking a couple of blocks on my own. I’ll keep my eyes open. Besides, the place is absolutely swarming with press. I think we’ve got everyone here from CNN to Podunk County News. It’s insane, and the last thing I want is someone following us home.”

“At least wait inside the gates until I can get there and find a place to park. I’ll call you when I’m walking your way.”

Aaron rolled his eyes. It was nice that Gray cared enough to want to protect him, but his new lover was going completely overboard in Aaron’s opinion. “Fine. Whatever.”

There was a moment of silence on the other end. Aaron was just about to hang up when Gray spoke. “Are you pissed at me?”

Aaron sighed. “No. Just tired and edgy, I guess. I didn’t mean to snap at you.”

“Okay. Traffic’s a mess. I’ll call you when I get there,” Gray said before hanging up.

Aaron shoved the phone back into his pocket. He wasn’t sure why he’d taken his mood out on Gray, but he needed to get himself together within the next ten minutes or risk everything he’d ever wanted.

Although he didn’t feel the least bit tipsy, he probably shouldn’t have had the wine Nathan had offered him before leaving the office. Aaron knew Nathan, Cameron and Rick were planning an all-evening meeting complete with dinner and drinks. Aaron hadn’t thought anything about toasting to Broomfield’s demise with the three men, but now he was second guessing himself.

Aaron reached down and tried to adjust his erection. Whatever the wine happened to do with his mood, it seemed to also have a direct effect on his cock. Aaron couldn’t remember ever feeling so horny in his life. If he wasn’t careful, he’d get arrested for public indecency because there was nothing he wanted more at that moment than to whip his cock out and beat his meat.

“What the fuck is wrong with me?”

He pulled out his phone again and hit the number for Gray’s phone.

“I’m not quite there yet,” Gray answered.

“I need you,” Aaron moaned. He went to stand behind a tree so he could rub a hand across his fly.

“Is something wrong?”

“Yeah. I’m horny as hell and getting hornier by the second.” Aaron unfastened his top button and managed to get his hand down his pants. He was thankful he was in the shadows because he was sure he made quite the sight.

“Baby? What’s going on? You don’t sound like yourself.”

“Mmmm,” Aaron moaned again, pressing his thumb against the head of his cock.

“Actually, I feel fantastic. Just get here as soon as you can or I’ll be forced to come without you.”

“Aaron! I don’t know what’s going on, but forget meeting me at the bus stop. Just go across the street, and I’ll pick you up in front of the Eisenhower Building.”

“Can’t,” Aaron groaned. “Too many reporters. I’ll stay here and finish what I’ve started. You park and call me.”

Aaron tossed his phone onto the grass and sunk down beside the base of the tree. He had his pants fully open and his cock in hand when a shadowed figure knelt beside him.

“What the hell are you doing, Aaron?”

Aaron moaned and smiled at Rick. “Jacking off, what’s it look like.” Aaron released his balls and reached for Rick. “Wanna play with me? Gray’s being mean.”

Rick stood and studied the surrounding area. “I don’t know what’s going on, but we need to get you inside before you make the front page of the papers.”

Aaron felt more than satisfied when Rick wrapped his arms around him and pulled him to his feet.

Rick shook his head and reached for the front of Aaron’s pants. “You’re making a mess of yourself.”

Aaron buried his face against Rick’s neck as the President gently pulled the cock from Aaron’s grasp and zipped him up. “You smell good.”

Rick coughed and pulled away enough to guide Aaron back through the shadows to the outside door of the Oval Office. “Come on, just a little further.”

Aaron spotted several Secret Service agents and waved. “Are they going to join us? I want you alone. Unless you’re inviting me to a group thing. That sounds nice.”

Rick shook his head. “I think it’s better that we ditch the Secret Service. Cam and Nathan are upstairs having dinner. Gray called me and asked that I go outside and check on you. I’m glad he did.”

Aaron was led into the pretty office. As soon as they were through the doors, Aaron turned and plastered himself against Rick’s body. “How come we’ve never fucked?”

Rick cupped Aaron’s cheek and ran his thumb across Aaron’s plump lips. “Because you’ve always managed to thwart my advances, you little imp.”

Advances?
Aaron couldn’t remember Rick ever coming onto him. Sure they’d talked about sex since Rick had come out to him, but Aaron didn’t remember Rick ever trying anything physical with him.

Rick walked Aaron over to a set of bookcases and stuck his hand behind one of the books. Before Aaron knew what was happening, the case slid open revealing an elevator.

“Cool.”

Rick chuckled. “I thought you might like that. I’ve been dying to show you my special room.” As he spoke, Rick began to unfasten Aaron’s pants again.

Aaron thrust his hips, rubbing his throbbing erection against Rick’s hand. “Touch me.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that. I plan to do more than touch you.” Rick walked Aaron into the elevator. “Stay here. I forgot something.”

Aaron leant against the small elevator wall and watched the handsome man rush back to his desk. He noticed Rick grab something shiny and drop it in his coat pocket before returning to the elevator.

“Did you get me a present?” Aaron asked.

Rick fit a key into the wall of the elevator and the doors closed. “I sure did. I gave you a sampling of it earlier in your wine.”

“Is that why I feel so good?”

Rick pushed Aaron’s pants down with one hand as he brought out the silver flask with the other. “Sure is. Want some more?”
