"Hmm, I may still have enough hate left in me to
continue on once I'm well."

She
smiled and winked at him.

Coughing a
little after.

"After you're well, then.

Let me see what is holding that nurse up so
we can get you back home."

He
kissed her forehead again and left.

It may be a mistake for them to carry on for longer than
they had intended to, but her heart was simply not ready to let him go.

A few more weeks of happiness would give her
more memories to thrive on after they truly did go their separate ways.

Chapter Sixteen

Cleaning up her room
after her afternoon kindergarten class had done their best to destroy her classroom;
Izzy wondered what the hell the parents gave this group of kids before sending
them to her.

The kids in her morning class
were pure angels.

They listened and were
engaging; put away the toys and other supplies before leaving.

The afternoon classes however, were
devils.

Every last one of them.

She needed to work in a pentagon shaped room
so she had more corners to put time out chairs in for the little demons.

Laughter came from her
open classroom door; she turned to see her fellow kindergarten teacher Darren
leaning his lean sexy body against the door frame.

“Wow you weren’t kidding about this class.

Are those spit balls in your hair?

They learned that skill a little early.”

Darren marveled at the demon’s skills.

He pulled a few small white paper balls from
her hair.

“Ugh, I thought I got
them all.

Seriously, I have tried
everything with these kids and nothing works.”

Izzy shook her hair with her hands in a vain attempt to get the
remaining spit balls out of her hair.

Spit balls as kindergarteners, really?

Darren sauntered into
her classroom, and sat at her desk chair.

The man was far too big to squeeze into the child sized seats scattered
around the room.

Giving up on her
attempt to clean up after the little bastards she sat on the edge of her desk
facing Darren.

He reached up and rubbed
her arm in comfort.

“You have Dylan
Crane, right?” She nodded. “I had Dylan’s older brother two years ago, and that
little kid was an asshole.

I hate to say
that about a five year old but damn he tested me every day.

And he got most of the kids to follow him to
the dark side.”

Darren shook his head.

“Something is wrong with that family.

The parents always defended him, spouting off
that as his teacher I ‘wasn’t challenging him enough’.” Darren did the quotes
with his fingers.

“So what did you
do?”

Izzy asked, hopeful he had some
good advice.

She had already been told
by Dylan’s parents that he was bored and she wasn’t challenging him.

Darren smiled, flashing
his perfectly straight bright white teeth.

The man was the whole package.

“I
blew off everything his parents had to say and kept a close eye on the little
shit.

I busted him for every little
thing, just to let him know he couldn’t push me around like he could his
parents.

Took a few weeks, and he tried
every last thing he could think of, but eventually he settled down and so did
the class.”

Thinking about his plan
she nodded.

“I think I will give it a
try. Thanks Darren!”

Izzy jumped off the
desk and hugged her friend.

When she released him
from the hug, he studied her face carefully.

“Spill it, girl.

What else has
your panties in a twist?”

Pushing away from him, she went back to
cleaning up the mess.

“Nothing, what
makes you think something is going on?”

She asked, without looking at him at him.

She heard a giant sigh
before she heard her desk chair push back. “Izzy, Izzy, Izzy, who do you think
you are trying to bullshit here, huh? I have known you for five years, you
aren’t as hard to read as you think.

If
it was just the problem with Dylan and the rest of the demon spawns, you would
have ran to your laptop and started typing new lesson plans focused on keeping
Dylan out of trouble.

Instead, you gave
me a hug and walked off.”

Izzy only shrugged her
shoulders and went back to her cleaning.

“Ahhh I see now, you
have a man in your life.”

Darren’s voice
held a hint of amusement.

Still not turning to
face him, she shrugged again.

“Kind
of.”

“Kind of?

Either you have a man or you don’t.

Or is it a friend with benefits type
thing?”

She looked over her shoulder in
time to see Darren wiggle his eyebrows at her.

Giggling a little in
response, she turned to face him, throwing the last of the scattered toys into
the correct bin.

“I’m sorta seeing
Alex.”

His eyebrows shot up to
his hair line and his jaw dropped.

“Alex
as in the asshole you have been bitching about for the past six months.

Oh, honey, you need to tell me
everything!”

“No way.

I know you have a new boy toy and you haven’t
told me one detail.”

Izzy smirked.

“I have an idea.

We go to dinner somewhere in LoDo, and tell
each other all of our deep dark dating secrets.

I tell you all about my boy toy of the month and you tell me how you
ended up getting your brains screwed out by the devil himself, deal?”

Darren asked with a giant smirk.

Izzy had to laugh. “The
devil himself, huh?”

“That is how the man has
been described.

Although I have a
strange feeling details have been left out.

Specific details regarding what this devil is hiding in his slacks that
made you allow him into your bed are needed. And I mean specific details, size,
girth, and how well he uses what God gave him.”

Darren wriggled his eyebrows at her.

More
laughter escaped from her mouth.

She
linked her arm with Darren’s.

“Come,
let’s get something to eat and a maybe a few drinks and I will tell you all
about the devil in my bed.”

~*~*~*~

Alex was in a bad
mood.

He didn’t want to be out with the
guys, he wanted to be in bed with Izzy.

Unfortunately for his libido, the guys dragged him out of the office and
straight to the upscale bar/restaurant near Coors Field.

He wanted to protest, tell them he had plans,
but no one knew about Izzy and his relationship.

If you can call what they were doing a
relationship.

He wanted a relationship
with her, but the minute they were clothed, her hatred for him came back full
throttle.

Even their agreed time
together was over.

Not that that had
stopped the two of them from engaging in some very none friend activities.

If she found out he
was, as Phin put it, “on the hunt for tail,” he would never see her naked
again.

Agreement or no agreement. That
was a sight he wasn’t ready to give up, especially for a night out with the
guys.

Yet here he was, leaning against
the bar, watching the game.

Really, he
was watching the clock trying to calculate the amount of time he had to stay
there before he could fake tired and leave.

“Where’s Collin?”

Derek asked.

Derek seemed a little twitchy to get home to his beautiful
girlfriend.

Maybe Alex could use that to
his advantage.

“Caroline called him;
something else broke, in that shitty house of hers.”

Alex replied.

Collin was always fixing something in that death trap of a house
Caroline lived in.

“Why she loves that
fucking house I will never understand.”

Derek said, taking a pull of his beer, turning his eyes back to the
game.

Random tail, no longer interested
him either.

“I am surprised Roni
was ok with you going out with just the boys.

You know she hates the super-secret boy outings as she has deemed
them.”

Alex was pushing his friend into
wanting to leave, so that he could sneak out behind him.

“Yep, that woman hates
being left out of anything, but her and Jemma decided they didn’t want to bear
witness to watching barely legal school girls, her words not mine, throw
themselves at you guys inflating your egos beyond belief.

I think they needed to get away from the
testosterone and have a night in estrogen land for a change.”

Derek replied with a grin.

“Where they meeting up
with Gracey and Izzy?”

He asked
casually.

“Nope just those
two.

They couldn’t get ahold of the
other two girls.”

Derek answered without
taking his eyes off the TV.

That meant Izzy was at
home, he really needed to get the hell out of the bar and head to her
place.

Instead of making a run for the
door, he settled back in the bar stool to pass the time watching the game he
had no interest in.

Phin, Gavin and Roc on
the other hand were chatting up a group of pretty barely 21 year olds on the
other side of the bar.

Maybe I can sneak out?

Alex pondered his chances of making it out
the door without any of them noticing.

He looked around the space to determine his best route of escape, that’s
when he saw her.

“What the fuck?”

He growled before he could stop himself.

Derek swiveled his
attention to the point, Alex’s eyes were locked on.

He let out a chuckle.

“Well, now that’s something you don’t’ see every
day.

Good for her.”

Derek laughed, turning back to his beer and the
game.

Alex kept his eyes
locked on the table in the dark corner of the restaurant portion of the
building.

Sitting there was Izzy, with
what appeared to be a date.

The man was
dressed in an expensive suit, with a watch on his wrist that screamed
money.

His coloring was much the same as
Roc’s Italian complexion.

The man said something
Alex couldn’t hear, given the distance between them, which made Izzy
laugh.

He wondered if it was the real
laugh she had with him, that included small cute snorts, or the more refined
laugh she saved for impressing people.

He wondered if this was the first date they had been on.

He felt anger growing inside of him.

He had behaved like a monk since the moment
she walked back into his life.

She had
been the only woman he had been with in the last eight months.

The man and Izzy both
stood, clearly getting ready to leave.

He
grabbed her coat from her and held it for her as she put it on.

He whispered something into her ear as he
did.

Izzy turned to the man.

She smiled and nodded in agreement to
whatever he had suggested.

Alex’s
imagination was filling in the blanks on that one.

Anger and jealousy had his blood pressure
spiking.

“Hey man I have to
run.

I’ll catch you later.”

Alex mumbled to Derek placing a twenty on the
bar to cover the tab.

Derek lifted his
beer as a goodbye, a little smirk on his face.

Alex watched the couple
as he pushed past the people milling around the bar.

He followed them out of the restaurant, picking
up his pace to catch them before they made it to their car.

Seeing her car parked
along the street a quick plan formed in his head.

He faked a stagger, as he approached.

“Izzy?

What are you doing here?”

He
slurred.

Her eyes went wide with
shock.

“Alex!

Hi.”

Her date stepped closer to her, placing his hand on the small of her
back.

Alex barely refrained
from growling at the man.

“You ok, man?”

Her date asked him, clearly worried.
