The older man came around to the door and peered in at her. “You moving?”

The reminder was too much. The tears began to run in rivulets down her cheeks. Failure overwhelmed her and she knew she couldn’t afford to be like this. She had to get on the road and get on with her life. There wasn’t room for self-pity right now.

When the man reached into the car and touched her shoulder, she turned and pushed against him with all her might. He didn’t move very far due to his bulk. “Miss, you seem very upset about this. Let me take you home to the missus and then I’ll come back to get your car to work on it. You’ll feel better next to a fire and not sitting in a cold car on the side of the highway.”

Getting out of the car, Gina realized the man stood only a few inches taller than her. Yes, she felt intimidated by him, but she wasn’t about let this man get close to her.

“I appreciate the offer, but I think I will wait on the tow truck,” she said quickly, hoping he would believe her lie. When he stepped in closer to her, he put his hand out onto her left shoulder. Feeling trapped Gina pushed out against his chest. The man stumbled backward but caught himself before he fell. Righting himself, he moved toward her.

“Listen, little lady,” he said, putting his hands up in a sign of resignation. “I was just trying to help. With it being the holidays, there’s no tellin’ when the truck will get here.”

Before she could say a word, tires in the gravel came to a quick halt behind her car. Turning to see who had stopped to help, relief and apprehension filled her body as the driver side door opened, revealing the Lake County Sheriff Department’s logo. In a surreal moment she watched black boots appear from under the door as they moved down to the pavement of the shoulder of the road and then the tan leg bottoms of the uniform. The door slammed shut, revealing the tall muscular body of one of Gina’s men.

Connor stood there for a brief second, looking at her in a way that broke her heart. It was a look of disappointment and anger. He brought his hat up to his reddish-brown head to complete his ensemble and then adjusted the utility belt around his waist that held his revolver. His gray eyes flashed at her as she swallowed hard and leaned back against the backdoor of her car. Body language indicated he was pissed.

“Hey, Harvey,” Connor said as he walked up to the duo, sticking his hand out for the man to shake, which he did. “How’s it going?”

“Good, Sheriff. Was just trying to help this little lady here, but I think my good looks must have spooked her,” he said with a belly laugh and a wink in her direction.

Stepping back, Connor moved his arm around Gina’s shoulder and held her. His stiff body let her know he was upset with her while he kept a smile on his face as he continued to face Harvey. “Thanks for stopping to help our girl here. I was planning on getting her a new car for her in the next week or two, but it would seem like she needs it now,” Connor said pulling her closer to him.

Boot crunching on gravel on the other side of the car indicated that Jared was coming up the other side. He had traveled to the front of the car. “Hi, Harvey,” he said, opening and looking under the hood.

The older man looked between the two lawmen and then at Gina. Gina felt uncomfortable under his scrutiny and unintentionally leaned into Connor’s side. As if he knew he was causing a discomfort for her, Harvey turned and leaned in under the hood.

Gina stiffened in Connor’s embrace when the older Good Samaritan turned from them, but his arm remained around her shoulder while she squirmed, trapping her. Feeling him lean down, she felt his breath on her hair near her ear.

“You’ve been a very naughty girl, Gina. When we get back to my house, you are going to have to be punished,” he whispered in a deep commanding voice. “And then we are going to fuck you to mark you as ours.”

An involuntary shudder ran through her body, making a sharp tingling pit-stop at her nipples and again at her pussy, at the tone of his voice and his words. She didn’t know why they affected her the way they did, but she was now wet between her legs at the thought of what he said. How could being punished cause her pussy to weep the way it did?

With a sniff in the air, Connor licked at her ear and hissed, “Nice!”

The blush that spread over her face was a sight to see for Connor. He wished Jared would have been there for that one, but then he felt her body begin to shake. Turning her toward him, he saw the tears in her eyes. She looked like a scared little girl. Enveloping her in his arms, he held her as her resolve broke and her barriers dropped. Racked with sobs, she cried on his shoulder as he tried to console her. Connor didn’t know all of what she was hiding or what she had lost, but they were going to damn well protect her and love her.

Aware of the crunching of gravel, Connor felt the impact of Jared’s body at the back of Gina’s. They stood like that for several minutes before the woman’s tears and sobs abated as cars drove past and Harvey looked at the engine. When she was finally still, Connor looked over her head at Jared where he saw the concern and love for the woman in their arms. He knew an intervention was needed to be able to help her.

“Jared, why don’t you stay here with Harvey and see about her car since you’re the mechanic here. Have it towed if necessary. I’ll take Gina back to my house. Come on out when you’re done.”

“Sure thing,” the deputy responded. Leaning down, he kissed the side of her neck. “I’ll see you in a bit, sugar.”

It pleased Connor when he felt her short nod, knowing they were getting to her mentally and not just sexually. As Jared pulled away, he gave a quick smile to Connor before turning back to the job at hand. Connor started to lead her to the SUV, but she stayed put.

“What’s wrong? I’m going to make sure you are safe and comfortable while we figure out what’s wrong with the car.”

Looking down nervously at the ground, Gina took two steps back, and Connor noticed it. Putting his hand under her chin, he raised it up for her to face him, tears still shimmering in her eyes. When he cocked his brown brow at her, she glanced at the car.

“I need to take my stuff with me,” she said meekly.

“Jared will make sure the car is secure. Your belongings will be fine.”

Reaching out, she opened the back door. “Not all of them.”

Chapter Three

Shifting, Connor looked in the backseat to see what was so important. His mouth dropped open at the sight, his heart jumping into his throat, nearly choking him.

“Shit!” he exclaimed then remembered his manners. Having the decency to blush in his chagrin, he popped his head and upper body into the vehicle and looked closer at the bundle sitting in the middle of the seat.

Jared had rushed around the other side of the car upon Connor’s exclamation and pulled the car door open. Astonishment lit on his face and then a smile. Connor knew just how the man felt. Both men reached over and pushed the blue-and-green blanket up around the sleeping toddler to keep out the bitter cold that was developing in the car.

Connor reached under the car seat and unbuckled the seatbelt that ran there before picking it and the passenger up. Backing out of the car, he carried it over to the SUV where Jared had already rushed over to and had opened the backdoor. Positioning the carrier, he ran the seatbelt under the plastic frame and buckled it.

Turning around, he found a petrified Gina standing, staring into her car where the baby sat just moments before. The only sign of emotion was the teardrops falling. Jared walked slowly toward her, watching her intensely as if she were going to bolt. Instead, her knees gave out and he reached her before she slunk to the ground. Sweeping her up into his arms, he carried her to the other side of the Tahoe, opened the door to the backseat, and climbed in, pulling the door closed behind him.

Walking back to her car, Connor grabbed her purse and the duffel bag that had been sitting next to the car seat before stepping around to the front of the car. “Harvey, can you do us a big favor and stay with the car until the truck gets here? We need to get her to the clinic to make sure she’s all right.”

“Sure thing, boss,” the older man said with a knowing smile. “Where do you want the car to be taken?”

“My place, we’ll deal with it from there.”

“Of course, I hope you fix her. She’s one scared little kitten,” Harvey said before turning back to the engine.

Connor went back to the SUV, climbed in, checking traffic before he did a U-turn across the highway, and headed back to Polson and Doctor Anderson’s office with lights flashing.

Delighted that he was actually holding their woman, Jared had concern running through his veins as he looked down into her pale face. She was paler than she usually was, especially with her hair around her face. He held his free hand to her cheek, cupping it in a loving gesture, and every once in a while on their journey, he would lean down and whisper in her ear to wake up.

Just on the outskirts of town, Jared had been looking at the baby sitting safely in its car seat when he felt a wiggle in his arms. Bringing his gaze back to the beautiful but pale face of his woman, he saw her pale blue eyes flutter open and shut several times before they finally focused on his hazel ones.

Feeling his face relax with the rest of his body, he smiled down at her. “Hello, sunshine. Are you all right?”

Nodding as if afraid to speak, she looked around the vehicle. When her eyes began to spin a bit, she slowly looked back up into Jared’s face. Jared felt as giddy as a teenager being able to hold his crush for a lengthy amount of time.

Letting his fingers comb through her hair, he felt her silky strands slide against his palm and he couldn’t wait to feel them slither across his cock soon. He knew the moment she felt his cock harden beneath her, for her eyes flew open to look deep into his. He licked his lips in anticipation.

The bundle in his arms was calm at first and then seemed to remember what happened on the side of the road. Jared watched the panic fill her features as she tried to sit up. Still holding her in his lap, he held onto her as she twisted her head around to see where her child was.

“The baby is fine. Hasn’t woken up yet,” he said to keep her calm. “I’m assuming by the color of the blanket that it’s a little boy?”

With trepidation Gina nodded her head slowly, trying to hold herself together from what Jared could see. Her body language screamed “let me go” as she held her hands against his chest in a defensive manner, but her hard nipples against her shirt was saying something totally different. Before she could respond, his head lowered and moved in closer to hers.

His lips covered hers gently, softly moving against hers, teasing them to open for him. Within seconds they did. His heart seemed to somersault in his chest while his dick somehow hardened even more. The gasp that emerged from Gina was felt in his mouth and heard as a moan to the two men.

“Geez, buddy, you’re killing me up here. You better keep your hands to yourself, especially with a baby in the car,” Connor said from the front seat, trying to keep his eyes on the road. Jared chuckled in his throat as he knew that the sheriff had been sneaking peeks through the rearview mirror. Hell, he would have been doing the same thing if he had been the one driving.

Gina broke the kiss first, pulling her bright red face away from his though she did sip from his lips several times before backing off totally. He liked the way her full lips were swollen from his kisses, just like the way he enjoyed seeing her body respond to his when she tried so hard to fight it.

Realization kicked in. “Hey, this is the first time we have seen you in regular clothes, sugar. You look fucking fantastic.” Then it was his turn to blush graciously. “Not that you don’t look hot in your uniform, you do, but…Ah, hell, Connor! Help me out here!”

Connor chuckled from the driver’s seat. “I think you’re doing fine back there.”

Jared was shocked to hear a feminine giggle from their woman. They had never heard her laugh before and it was a nice sound. It sounded as if she were beginning to let her guard down with them. Looking into her face, he saw the smile softened her features, giving her a beauty that surpassed what she already had.

Leaning in he gave her another kiss, which she accepted before turning away to check on the baby when a gurgle emanated from within the fleece blanket.

“Ssh,” she cooed as she pulled the blanket away from the plump face of a toddler. Jared determined the boy to be about a year and a half by the looks of him. He watched the interaction between mother and child and at that moment, he promised himself he’d be a good father to him, and he looked forward to giving more children to Gina, whether they were his or Connor’s. To see her belly swollen from a growing babe caused his cock to slam against the zipper of his uniform. He hoped there wouldn’t be an imprint left permanently on it as a constant reminder of what this woman did to him, but then again, he wouldn’t mind, considering the circumstances.

When the child settled down, Gina turned back around where she sat in the middle between Jared and the car seat, nervously glancing at him and then at Connor in the front seat. Jared caught Connor’s glances in the rearview mirror and then a quick nod.

Putting his arm around Gina’s shoulders, Jared used his other hand to tug her face around so he could look at her. “You know when we get home you will be answering all of our questions, don’t you?”
