“Excuse me, are you really going to ignore me? We didn't even talk about the hearing.” Opal's reproachful glare cuts through the dark. Still I sneak a glance at my phone.
I wrench my attention back to Opal, but I'm sure she can hear the distracted smile in my voice. “I know. That was insane. I haven't even been able to think about it. Why haven't they told us anything?”
Opal sits up. “Poor Marshall's probably dealing with Whitney and hasn't been able to notify us.”
“You're that sure we won?”
She shrugs, supremely confident.
I actually manage to put my phone down and focus. “Is it because of Whitney's meltdown? That was such an unflattering moment.”
“Definitely didn't help. It made her seem not grounded. Anyway all we can do now is wait. Seems like you'll have no problem keeping busy. I take it you found Declan?”
“I took your advice and kissed him.”
“This is so exciting! What did he say? Was he surprised?”
“That's an understatement.” I giggle, picturing his expression right before I pulled his face to mine. “We didn't get a chance to say much, because I had to fly back here.” My phone vibrates.
Opal lies back down. “Answer the poor boy. He's probably extremely confused.”
I read his text:
Oh my god, I didn't say anything about the drawing.
A minute later he responds.
