“No you aren’t, you’re a woman in all the right places. You’ve got it all in the right places, where a man wants it. Your waist is small compared to your breasts and hips. And you were tiny down there, until I moved inside you. Now you won’t be. Now we’ll widen it so you can have my babies. I can’t believe you want my babies too.”

She laughed. “Hmm…if this keeps up, I’ll be pregnant every year. Do you really want our babies?”

“You are my woman…and in God’s eyes, my wife…of course I want our babies, and lots of them. I want to look at you pregnant and make love to you then too,” he said just before he kissed her again. “Remember that.”

“Oh I like that, and just the way you put it too,” she cried. “Can we do it again?”

“God help me, I love you, woman…”

From that day on, Hattie slept with Lee every night. And every night, they made passionate love.

Chapter Twelve

Weeks passed and then one day Joe came inside and handed Lee a telegram.

“Some man just brought this from town.” He handed Lee the paper.

Lee was having a second cup of coffee before he hit the fields. He’d recovered well and was able to get around almost as good as before. He read the paper and laughed.

Everyone came in and noticed Lee smiling.

“What’s goin’ on?” Hattie asked as she fixed the girls some lemonade.

“It’s great news,” he announced as he stood up and whirled Hattie in the air. Sam and Joe glanced at each other in surprise. The girls laughed.

“What is it?” Sam and Joe asked, watching Lee kiss Hattie quite thoroughly.

“We’re going to Texas,” Lee announced, as he released Hattie from his kiss, but held her close.

Everyone’s mouth hung open. “Texas?”

Hattie stayed her arms around him. “What are you talking about?”

Lee turned her loose and looked at all of them. “I wired my friend in Texas. I told him we wanted to come and live with the Indians. He said he’d be glad to have us and that we were welcome there. Don’t you see? We can all live like a family there, and be happy.”

“But Lee, what about your land here? What will we do about it?” she asked.

“I’ll sell it,” Lee announced.

“Sell it! But Lee, it’s your home…” Joe began.

“You’re wrong. My home is with you, all of you. We are a family and I won’t let anything or anyone break us apart. It’s the answer I prayed for. It’s a way to be happy and happiness is much more valuable than a piece of land we have to fight over every time we turn around. I’ve had enough of fighting. I want a family, this family. I love Hattie. I want her to be my wife. In every way. I want you all to be my family. My real family. And I want more babies too, to fill our home with love.”

Lee sobered some and sat down at the table. Grabbing his coffee, he sipped it then looked at everyone who stared at him.

He extended his hand to the kids around the table. They each took it eagerly. “First off, let me say this…I love you all.”

The kids giggled.

He glanced at Sam and Joe now. “And you all know how much I love Hattie. I haven’t made a secret of it. We’ve been in love for a long time. As far as I’m concerned, she’s my wife. She’s the only woman I ever loved or wanted. Even if the people won’t recognize it. I can’t help that. Now, I want to make us a family. A real family. And the only answer I could come up with is to move to Texas and live at the Indian village. They would accept us there, and we could live out our lives happily. We can still farm, but as long as we live among them, there will be no trouble. It won’t matter--the color of our skins. It’s the only solution. I won’t give Hattie up, I love her too much. And I won’t give any of you up either. We are a family, and we’re going to Texas…”

“Are you sure…are you really sure that’s what you want to do?” Hattie gasped. “I mean you aren’t doing this just for me, are you?”

“To a degree, but it is what I want. God recognizes how I feel about you, Hattie. He doesn’t condemn us. We’ll be happy there, of that I’m sure. I’m positive. I searched for an answer, and this is the answer. The Indians welcome us. We can live in peace there,” Lee explained.

“Oh, Lee, it’s a dream come true…” Hattie gasped, grabbing his neck and kissing him in front of everyone.

Lee smiled. “But I want to know what everyone thinks about it.”

Joe studied the table for a long time. “Well sir, I never figured on ever movin’ from this place, but you are right. Happiness is more important than fightin’ for somethin’ that is no longer of value to us. If we can all live together in Texas as a family, I say, let’s move.” Joe laughed.

Sam smiled at Lee. “You really mean it, don’t you…?”

“Yeah Sam, I really mean it,” he said and reached to tousle his hair.

Violet’s eyes widened. “We gonna go live in Texas, yippee!”

Lee stood up. “Well then, I’ve got a lot to do. Gonna go talk to Mr. Harvey and see if he’s interested in buyin’ up the land, since his borders ours.”

“That would make him almost as important a rancher as the Jeffries since the land would be worth as much, maybe more with the water rights,” Joe calculated.

“Maybe if Mr. Harvey buys it, things will straighten out around here. Like you said he’ll be a major land owner, and the Jeffries will have to respect that. And knowing Mr. Harvey I’m sure in time he’ll give them some water rights. The war here will be over.” Lee smiled contentedly that he’d found a solution.

Joe and Sam started talking as they went out the back door. “Guess we’ll have to learn how to talk Indian.”

Sam laughed. “Guess so.”

The girls had their chores to do and ran outside behind them, giggling and hollering about Texas.

Hattie looked at Lee, now that everyone had cleared out of the house.

“What?”

“You are something. You’d do this for me?” She shook her head in shock.

“For us,” he said and leaned to kiss her. "I'm not giving you up, Hattie, for anything. I love you too much."

“Don’t do that.” She pulled away. “You know how I got so much to do this mornin’.”

“You don’t like my kisses?” He frowned.

“I like them much too much,” she teased and kissed him again.

He wrapped his arm around her and looked down at her. “There’s somethin’ else.”

She looked at him. “What?”

“I asked Chase, my friend, if Burning Tree the Shaman of the tribe would marry us.” Lee smiled.

Hattie’s mouth flew open. “Marry us?”

“Well, you want to marry me, don’t you?” he asked, looking almost hurt.

“Lord yes, I do, as soon as possible. It would be a dream come true…” She pulled him by the hand. “Let’s go back to bed. I want to make sure you understand how
much
I want to marry you…” she teased with a gleam in her eyes. “You shouldn’t have had to even ask me.”

“Are you serious?” he asked, his brow going up in question.

Her facial expression grew serious, and she took his hand. “Maybe I’m a little wicked today, but I’ve been thinkin’ about it all morning.”

“Why didn’t you say somethin’? I’m willing if you are.” He grinned.

“‘Cause I needed to get breakfast on. But they’ve all had breakfast and they all got their chores to do, and there is no reason…” She eyed the bedroom door.

“You’re precious to me, Hattie. There’s not a false bone in your body.” He grabbed her with his arm and pulled her unresisting body into the bedroom and shut the door.

She disrobed for him and slipped back into bed. He watched her eagerness. “I’m glad you’re hot and wet for me…” he murmured, taking his clothes off and joining her in the bed.

But to his surprise, she turned her butt to him and bent over his shaft that was already waving like a flag for her. She took it slowly in her hands, mesmerized at how it acted on its own. Her fingertips played against it, watching it react to her. She smiled and then her lips covered him, slowly, her tongue curling around him. He gasped and his hand reached to circle her hips, delving into the crevice several times. He pulled her onto him, so he could reach her better and bent his head to stare at her buttocks. He sighed as he began kissing all the way to her anus. “God, you’re just as beautiful here as anywhere.”

“Stop that,” she murmured against him. “I’m making love to my man, and when I’m done, you can have me any way you want.”

“I can’t stop lovin’ you, baby.” He smiled against her.

She took him deep within her throat and sucked gently as her tongue swirled around the tip of him. He began to move against her.

She touched all of him, kissing him there and watching his excitement grow. When he filled her, she swallowed and turned back to him.

“Hmm…I liked that, did you?” She smiled lazily at him, resting her head on his chest. “You taste good…”

He pushed back her hair, and kissed her still wet lips then smiled. “You are such a temptation, you always have been. My little Hattie, the woman of my dreams, the woman of fire,” he said, pulling her so he could kiss her full on the mouth.

“Should a woman want a man this bad? I’m just so hot for you, you make me that way, the way you look at me…I need you…” she whispered for his ears alone.

He smiled as his shaft reacted to her. She kissed his nipples and he guided himself toward her. They made love for over an hour. Just as she was close to climaxing, he would pull out and wait ‘til the tide receded then he would go back inside her and excite her all over again. She was in a frenzy. Later, he patted her on the butt, but got sidetracked with his hand again and chuckled. “We need to get up. The others will wonder.”

“No, they won’t.” She turned a sultry expression on him, her hands going over him with a liberty she’d never shown. “You told them all how much you loved me this morning and they’ll know what we are doin’. I ain’t hidin’ love from my kids like my Mama done. I want them to know I enjoy it, and want it all the time. I want them to learn to love the same way I did. Now—touch me, love me, kiss me…” She sighed, spreading herself wide for him. “Any way you want, I’m yours and you know it.”

He smiled, and studied her body, his hand going over the soft curves of her, then gently he rolled her over and kissed her buttocks, smoothing his hand over her there. “I love the color of your skin, so even, so dark and beautiful. Now I’m going to love you even more…” he whispered, as his mouth moved down on her crevice and his tongue licked there, kissing her and fondling her, his fingers going inside the welcome heat of her.

When he’d laved her, and was sure she was on fire, he began to enter her there, at first prodding slowly, ‘til he felt her relax and welcome his entry. She moaned lowly. “Oh this is so different, but I like it, keep going,” she encouraged as her muscles began to work to draw him in.

He kissed her back. “Now we’ve had all of each other. We are one as we can be, darlin’.”

“Hmmm. Can we stay like this all day?”

His hand reached around her belly and sought her there, making her move against him, in a most erotic fashion. She moaned aloud. “Oh yes, baby, all the way…”

His hand kept moving in all the right places, stirring the passion between them.

When he exploded inside her, she rode the moment of passion with him. He forestalled the climax as long as they both could hold out, kissing, fondling, touching.

For long moments, he made love to her, until they finally collapsed on the bed.

After a short rest, she cuddled up to him.

“Why’d you kiss me that first time…?” she challenged.

He smiled, kissing her nipples, then her mouth. Pulling away, he explained. “When we first met, part of falling in love was that you just came out and said what you wanted. You wanted a kiss. I didn’t know how old you were for sure, but I did know how provocative you were. That silly dress you wore was plastered to you, but even then I saw your nipples pebbling against it in the rain. I didn’t want to see them, because those flashing eyes of yours already alerted me to the female parts of you. Your young breasts peaked through the thin cotton of that dress, announcing your young womanhood to me, and  I was mesmerized. Those dark perky nipples of yours, so round and tempting.  Just on the verge of womanhood, you stood out like a ripe little peach to me. I didn't want to be aware of you, but I couldn't help it. The way your hips swayed when you walked, I'd never seen a girl so unaware of herself and yet so ready for the taking. It stirred me. Made me curious, made me want to see more. I'd never noticed a girl's breast before yours, or hips you had something about you that stood out from every girl I’d ever known. The way you moved. And then you challenged me…to kiss you. I knew we were both thinkin’ the same thing. What would it be like? We both wanted it. You made it pretty plain. I couldn’t resist you, even then.”

She chuckled. “I was brazen, wasn’t I?”

“Hmm…but what you didn’t know was that I wanted to kiss you ever since you came out of the bushes.”

“You couldn’t have…”

“I did.”

“But I was a sight. My hair was dripping wet, my clothes were plastered…”

“Yeah, I know…I saw. I saw the cruve of your hips, the pout of your breasts, the small of your waist, and those beautiful full lips.”

“I was a mess that day.”

“You were provocative. I'd never seen a girl’s nipples before. I couldn’t take my eyes off of them.  Sure stirred the imagination in me.”

She laughed. “I was such a mess.”

“Didn’t matter at the time, we were both young and curious as hell. You pursed those lips, full and luscious, flashed those eyes, and sauntered over to my horse. I almost fell off the dang horse watchin’ you. Your dress rode up when you climbed on the horse, you didn’t see that, those legs were showin’ and I was squirmin’.”

“I was just a kid…I couldn’t tempt a fly.”

“I don’t know. I don’t know how a sixteen year old girl could be that provocative, and not even a woman yet. Not even know what you were doin' to me. But somehow, you were just so aware of coming into a woman. Like you wanted someone to prove it to you. But you made me take notice of you, look at you, want you.” He looked at her strangely, his hand going over her heated flesh as he spoke. “I felt guilty for wanting you, for a long, long time, but it didn’t keep me from loving you all through the years. I thought about you all during the war, thought how I shouldn’t be thinking of you. You were just a kid, I had no right, but it didn’t stop the wanting. Told myself, how it would never work, but none of that mattered. It was you I saw in my dreams, held in my arms.”
