“Good morning Mrs. Prescott,” he said sliding his lips down my neck.

“Mmm, good morning Mr. Prescott,” I replied taking his hands and placing them on my breasts.

Princess, didn’t you get enough last night,” he laughed.

“I did, but now I need breakfast.  I’m famished,” I said placing my hands over my eyes pretending like I was about to faint.

“Well then, I guess I better get you back in there and feed you.  I wouldn’t want my wife to starve.”

I laughed holding onto his hand.  “Walk with me Dylan?”

“Sure princess, anything you want.”

“I’m glad you said that because I was just down here thinking about something and I wanted to run it by you.”

“Okay, let’s hear it baby.”

“Well I was thinking that when we return home we should look at houses.  I love the penthouse but I don’t think it would be right to raise our family there.  Considering there would be no place for our children to play.  Plus, if we start looking now, we could have a home ready by the time we bring our first child home.  What do you think?”

Dylan stopped.  “What do I think?  Is there something you need to tell me Brooke?  We just got married and you’re already talking about bringing our first child home from the hospital.  Princess?  Are you pregnant?” he asked shocked and hurt.

I laughed.  “
Dylan, no.  I was just planning, you know just in case it happens sooner rather than later.  I’m not getting any younger sweetheart, if we’re going to have a family we need to do it soon.  I actually have something to confess that I should have told you before but I wasn’t sure how you’d react, so here goes.  Baby, I didn’t go in for my depo shot last week.  Not because I wanted to trap or trick you, but because we were getting married and it can take a while to get pregnant after getting off of it.  Please say something Dylan.”

“I don’t know what to say Brooke.  You just dropped a lot of shit on me in a matter of seconds.  I need a moment to process.”

“I’m sorry.  Please don’t be mad at me.”

“Brooke, I’m not mad.  I love you.  A little shocked, yes.  I wish that you had told me this before you had decided to do that.  Not because I don’t want to start a family right away, but because it should have been a decision that we made together.  I wanted us to be married for at least a year before we thought about having a baby.  I wanted you all to myself.”

“I’m not pregnant Dylan.  We can still have that time.  We can use condoms or something else, just not the stuff that alters hormones.”

“No Brooke!  Absolutely not!  I hate those things and I’ll be damned if I’m going to wear one of those things while making love to my wife.  It’s not going to happen.

“What would you suggest then, because I am not going back on birth control.”

“I guess we’ll take our chances, won’t we?  If it happens it happens and if not, then we won’t be parents.  Either way Brooke, it’ll be fine.  All I’m saying is that in the future, I would really like to be a part of the types of decisions.  It’s no longer just you that you’re making them for, it also involves me.”

“I’m sorry Dylan, you’re right.  I should have included you.  It won’t happen again, I promise.”

“I love you princess,” he said placing a kiss on my lips.

“Dylan, there’s one more thing.”

“Do we really need to hash these things out right now Brooke?  Can’t we just enjoy our time together while we’re here?” he asked getting frustrated.

“No, I want to talk about it now while we’re relaxed.  I know once we return home things are going to be crazy and then we’ll never find the time.”

“What is it Brooke?”

“I want you to stop fixing.”

“What?  Why?”

“You know why Dylan.  It’s dangerous and I hate when you leave me.  I worry so much that you’re going to get mixed up in the wrong shit and something horrible will happen.
Just go back to work and take over the company from your dad.”

He gripped my hand tightly.  “I can’t do that Brooke.  I can promise though that I will do everything in my power to keep you safe.  You have nothing to worry about.  Besides, I have Tristan, he always has my back.”

“Dylan, Tristan is not invincible either!  You are both crazy for putting yourselves in danger.”

“I’ll think about it.  That’s the best I can give you right now until the asshole that’s threatening you is caught.  I’m sorry Brooke, but that’s the way it has to be.”

“I guess that’s all I can ask.  I don’t like it Dylan but I understand.”

“So we’re good for now right now baby?”

“Yes, we’re good,” I said rolling my eyes.

“Perfect!  Why do
n’t you go wait for me at our spot and I’ll be right there.  I need to run in and grab something real quick.”

“Another surprise cowboy?” I asked.

“Of course princess.  I’ll be right back,” he said giving me a quick peck on the lips.

I watched as Dylan ran toward the castle and then turned to go meet him at our spot.  I found the bald spot where he had laid the blanket the day before and sat.
That’s when I felt a sharp pain in my arm and everything went black.

CHAPTER 16

When I woke I knew I wasn’t at the castle anymore.  Where had I been taken and who had taken me?  My mind was groggy, my stomach sick and it smelled of fuel adding to the roiling that was taking place in my gut.  I tried to move but I couldn’t stretch out all the way and I couldn’t stand.  There was something blocking me, metal?
The noise was horrendous, so loud I couldn’t hear myself think.  Had I dreamt about my own wedding or had it really happened.  I didn’t know.  The darkness kept my thoughts from being clear; pushing me into a deep depression, longing for the man I knew would frantically be looking for me.

Dylan wasn’t a dream, I knew he was real.  I needed to see my finger to reassure me that I wasn’t going crazy.  I heard a woman moan next to me.  It wasn’t a moan of pleasure but that of pain.  I tried to open my mouth to speak but I was paralyzed.  No words formed, nothing came out.  I was scared.

As I tried to move again I realized that I had been locked in a cage.  It felt like the kind of cage they put a dog or cat in during a flight.  Without light, I couldn’t be one hundred percent sure that, that’s what I had been placed in.  Whatever drug I had been given was starting to slowly wear off.  I realized that I was in a cage underneath a plane.  It was all starting to make sense now, as I continued to breathe in the fuel fumes.  My voice was returning and I asked the woman in the cage next to me if she could talk.

“Can you hear me?” I asked.

“Yes,” she replied.

“Where are we?”

“We’re in the belly of a plane from what I can gather,” she responded.

“Why?” I asked.

“You need to stop asking so many questions or they will kill us.  Do you understand?” she said.

“Yes.  But I’m just trying to understand why someone would take me.”

“Because your husband is rich and they know he’ll do anything to get you back.”

“How do you know about my husband?” I asked
confused.

No
response.  Just silence.  I must have passed out because when I came to, I was being taken off the plane in my cage and loaded onto to a van.  The men were talking but I couldn’t make out what they were saying.  Their accents were thick and they spoke in another language.  The air was cold and the trees were dead, the landscape gray almost black.  I felt another sharp prick in my arm and darkness took over.

***

When I woke, I was once again paralyzed.  I was beginning to lose all of my memory function but I held on to the hope of holding on to what I could still remember.  I was finally let out of my cage and placed in a concrete room in a basement.  It was dark and cold the only light flowing in from a small window overlooking a vast, dead fielded area.  I could hear the screams of other women in the other cells.  The sounds of torture and whippings alerted me to what was to come for me.

I cried in silence but no tears fell.
What the hell had they given me?
A stranger’s voice came through the wall.

“Hey you in there, can you hear me?” she asked.

I pounded back on the wall.

“Can you talk yet?”

I pounded on the wall.

It should wear off in a few hours.  When you can talk let me know,” she said.

I pounded on the wall.

I looked out the small window as if waiting for a clue of my whereabouts.  Nothing came by.  No cars, trucks or buses; I was in the middle of fucking nowhere, in a cold, foreign country where no one could find me.

Please God, let Dylan find me before it’s too late.  Before I forget who I am and he forgets me.

I sat as the serum slowly began to wear off.  My thoughts were becoming clear once again.  I went over to the wall.

“Hey, can you hear me?” I asked.

“I can hear you,” she answered.

“Why are we here?  Do you know?”

“We’re being sold as sex slaves,” she replied.

“What?” I said covering my mouth wanting to be sick.

“I need you to listen to me.  It might just save your life.”

“Okay,” I said reluctantly.

“I know who you are.  I’ve worked with your husband in the past.”

“How can you be sure I’m the person’s wife that you’re thinking of, unless you’re in on this too?” I asked.

“I can assure you Brooke; I am not in on this.  I am a prisoner as well.”

“Who are you?” I asked.

“Brooke, what I’m about to tell you is going to be very hard for you to hear, but I need you to listen, okay?”

“Okay,” I said quietly.

“We have been kidnapped by the Russian’s.  I knew you were the one they were after because I heard them say your name, Brooke Prescott.  Someone close to your husband tipped them off that you were getting married in Ireland and that was the perfect opportunity for them to kidnap you.  I myself was on a trip in London with my fiancé when they nabbed me and stuck that fucking needle in my arm.  The only reason I know so much is because I can understand everything they’re saying.  They have no clue that I am fluent in Russian.”

“Okay,” I said, “but that still doesn’t explain how you know Dylan.”

“That’s where things get a little fucked up Brooke.  And I’m sorry that no one told you, but you have to understand that they couldn’t or all of our lives would have been in jeopardy.”

“Damn it!  Will just tell me already,” I said getting pissed.

“You might remember me Brooke.  I was there in the hotel with you the afternoon that Stefan roughed you up.”

“Fuck you,” I spat.  “
Amber is dead!”

No Brooke, I’m not.  I’m sitting in a cell right next to you.  I’m just as scared as you are that I will never see the people I love again.”

“Amber, this is really hard to believe.  You have to tell me what happened.  Why did you just sit there and let Stefan do that to me?”

“I had no choice Brooke.  Neither of us did.  Things are not what you think they are and that’s shit you’ll have to work out if you ever get out of here.  The governor has suspected that one of his men has been involved in a Russian underground sex trade for some time, so he contacted the FBI and we got involved.  We still don’t know who the dirt bag is but we have our suspicions, Stefan has been following that lead for quite some time now.”

“Excuse me?  Why would Stefan be following a lead?  He’s a lawyer for crying out loud.”

“That’s what you were told, but he’s an agent for the bureau Brooke, just like me.”

“Oh my god,” I said pulling my knees to my chest rocking back and forth.  “You all lied to me, every single one of you assholes has been lying to me.  Well Amber, you might as well spill the fucking beans now because I’m sure I’
m going to die in hell here,” I yelled.

“Brooke, you need to keep your voice down, they will come over here and kill us if they suspect we’re talking to one another.”

“At this point Amber, who the fuck cares?  Do you honestly think we’re going to get out of here alive?  Look around, does it look like we have freedom here?  How long before it’s us screaming like those other women I heard earlier?”

“I know you’re angry Brooke but you need to hold it together.  Look, the bureau knows about this underground sex ring.  They will be looking for us and if I know your husband, he and his Russian friend will slit people’s throats to find you.  Now, can you calm down so I can finish telling you?”

“I guess,” I said irritated.

Your attack was staged Brooke.  Stefan was never going to rape you.  He roughed you up so Dylan would come running to your side.  He knew that he had a thing for you even before you two started dating.   Don’t ask; it’s our job to know these things.  You would be surprised at the shit we know.  The governor had mentioned that Dylan fixed crimes for some of his buddies and that he would be able to help us with this case, but knew that Dylan would never help Stefan unless you were somehow involved, because Dylan believed Stefan to be nothing but shit.”
