Chapter Thirty-Three

Sasha

I looked in the mirror at my belly and began to smile, imagining me all fat and pregnant with Wise’s baby. This baby was the connection that I needed to get my man back. I just had to figure out a way to get rid of Milan! Jabari had a plan, however, I had an even better one. I wanted to completely rid myself of that crazy bastard. I hated that I allowed Jabari to talk me out of my panties. He was just so fine to me… and he sexed me so damn good!

Shit! I had to force myself to think about something else. He hadn’t called me all day, and I hoped that he stayed away. He was heading for a path of destruction and so was Keem, messing around with Wise.

“Did you tell Carter that I was here in Detroit?” My cousin, Selena, looked at me and asked. I gave her the side-eye, as if she had asked me the stupidest thing in the world.

“No! I don’t even know Carter like that, nor did I know that he was in town. Besides, I have too many of my own problems to be worried about you boo.” I told her smartly. I couldn’t believe that she called me over to her house to check me about such bullshit.

I didn’t want her and Carter to be together. She was all buddy-buddy with that bitch Milan. I hated it! There were times that my man went to Atlanta to visit Carter, and that bitch Milan would just so happen to be in Atlanta at the same time. I knew that Milan was around because Selena would post Instagram pictures talking about ‘Chillin with my Sis’. I wanted to tell her, bitch that is not your sister! I am your real family!

Selena let out a sigh, plopping down on her couch. “Well he knows, and now he’s not going to stop until he gets me back. I was doing so good not seeing him, but once I laid eyes on him, everything in me wanted him. I love that man so much! Gosh, I hate the hold that he has over.”

“I don’t know what to tell you boo.” I shrugged. “I can’t give you advice when I’m going through shit myself. Hell, your sister,” I made the quote unquote gesture, “is trying to step on my toes and take my man. She knows that I’m pregnant with Wise’s baby and I’m about ready to give her the business.” I threw out there, just to see where her head was and her loyalty lies.

Selena’s eyes bulged. “Awwww, you’re preggo too? Wow, a baby Wise. Milan is my boo, but she needs to step back. Isn’t she with Jabari?”

I swear this heffa was so fake. She trying to act all concerned when she had them riding around together like the perfect couple in Atlanta while Jabari was locked up. She knew that they were fucking around. She wasn’t fooling me. She thought that we were getting close since she moved back to Detroit and I was the only friend that she had other than her mom, but I couldn’t stand her, and only tolerated her because she was my cousin.

“Yeah, so that means you’re going to help me get rid of that girl, right? I need your help.” I asked.

Selena shook her head. “I don’t know Sasha. I’m too pregnant to be helping anybody do anything, and you’ve been with Wise for too long. He’ll come around, especially if you’re having his child. How far along are you?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. I haven’t been to the doctor yet. I just took an at-home pregnancy test, and it came back positive.”

Wise was the only man that I had unprotected sex with, both Jabari and Keem strapped up every time, so I knew that however far along that I was, it was Wise’s baby. I only told Jabari that it was his because he would flip out if he found out that I was still having occasional sex with Wise. His ass was so controlling.

My phone rang with a call from Keem. I answered it immediately.

“Hey babe. What’s up.”

“Shit, what you know about that Carter cat?” He sounded sour as hell. Instantly, I knew that something had transpired, so I excused myself and finished the call in the bathroom.

“Not much, why? Wise never really brought me around his family like that. He’s so private with his stuff.”

“Because I’m gone put a slug in his head, that’s why. And, do you still have access to Wise’s crib? Jabari and I are supposed to meet up in a couple of hours. I have the perfect plan, are you still down with me?”

I rolled my eyes to the ceiling. “You know it.” I lied.

“Ok, after I run it by Jabari, I’m going to need you to unlock the house for us, we’re going to plant a few bricks in there, then I’m gone put in an anonymous call to them boys. Jabari’s talking that crazy shit. I don’t want to see my mans dead, so that will work out for everyone. We’ll be able to do us for real.”

I smiled a devilish grin, agreeing with everything that he said. As soon as I hung up, I was going to call Wise and hit him with the info. He wouldn’t have no choice but to see my loyalty, and I would step in to get my man back. Both Keem and Jabari were doing too much. I wasn’t going to help them get my man locked up!

Chapter Thirty-Five

Wise

That slime-ball ass nigga, Keem, is lucky that he got up out of dodge before I got a chance to get at him. With the way I was feeling, I would have shot his ass up in the club and caught a murder charge. I couldn’t believe that he was plotting on a nigga. We was partners, getting money together. I had always been straight up with that cat. Some shit just wasn’t for me to figure out and I wasn’t about to sit up and cry over spilled milk.

After reading over those text messages, my whole mood was shot, however, Carter and Adonnis wasn’t ready yet. Carter called himself mingling with my people, trying to get a feel of everyone. So far, he has been on point, so I wasn’t complaining. I must have been losing my touch. It ain’t no way that I should have had so many snakes in my grass and ain’t seen them ma’fuckas slithering.

Carter finally came back to the table and tapped me on the shoulder, “Ayye bro, I’m ready to get up out of here. We gone get us a couple of rooms. Adonnis done found him one of these hoes, and I just want to chill out. I know you and Milan want y’all privacy.”

I nodded knowingly, “In other words, y’all niggas got a couple of freaks on deck and y’all trying to cut something.”

Carter chuckled. “Nah, I ain’t thinking about these hoes. Adonnis can do what he do, then send the broad on her way. We still got to meet up with that fuck boy in a few hours. Oh, let me stop talking about yo’ help.” Carter thought that shit was so funny. He always thought that he knew it all. I hated that most of the time he was right.

“Fuck you!” I shot, giving him the middle finger. “On my life, I bet you I handle his weak ass.”

“I bet you do. I never said you was a soft nigga, that ain’t in our D.N.A. You just need to take yo’ blinders off, lil’ bro. This a fucked up world we live in, so you need to be on yo’ shit.”

I nodded, agreeing with him as I threw back my shot of Ciroc. Then I stood to leave. Before exiting, I said my goodbyes to my crew, then made my way out the door.

We all piled up in my truck and I dropped them off to my other car, then headed to Milan’s crib to chill with her until it was time to meet up with Keem. He was in for some shit. I wasn’t about to let him get off too easy. I was going to torture his punk ass.

I chose to ride in silence. I had so much shit on my mind that I almost didn’t hear my phone ringing. I pulled it out and answered without looking at the screen.

“Wise, I need to talk to you.” Sasha’s voice sang into the phone, causing me to get an instant attitude.

“Nah, we ain’t got shit to talk about.” I don’t know why I didn’t hang up. A part of me was wondering what lie she was about to tell me. If she was fucking Jabari’s broke ass, she was probably fucking the pizza guy and the mail man too.

“Will you just listen to me! I know you’re acting funny because of that Milan broad, but it’s important. Keem and Jabari are plotting against you. They tried to get me to go along with them, but I love you too much to see anything happen to you. Please be careful.”

This bitch put on a whole academy award deserving speech. She didn’t give a fuck about me. That’s why she was fucking Jabari behind my back. I decided to play the game with her, like I didn’t know what was up.

“Oh really? Damn, so I wonder what made them comfortable enough to come to you with that bullshit out of all people in the world.”

“That’s what I don’t understand. My loyalty has always been to you, even when you didn’t deserve it.”

Damn I wanted to put this slut on blast, but I couldn’t call her on her bullshit without telling on myself. That just reminded me. I needed to get rid of that ma’fucka’s phone a.s.a.p, before I got caught up on some bullshit. That was enough evidence to lock my ass under the cell if they found Jabari’s body.

“Look, I got to go.” I told her, hanging up. Talking to her was pointless. I already knew what was up. I guess her attempt to warn me was alright, but it was a wrap on her ass. I lost all respect when I found out she was lowering her standards to fuck with broke ass Jabari. You wasn’t supposed to downgrade. I would have respected her more if she chose to fuck with Keem.

I pulled into Milan’s driveway and made my way inside, I found her sitting on the couch with her hand to her mouth, and her eyes glued to the TV. The news was broadcasting live from the scene where Jabari’s body was dumped. A part of me got to feeling some type of way. Carter’s cleanup crew was supposed to have made that nigga disappear for good. They wasn’t supposed to find him that quick.

I turned the TV off, knowing that Milan didn’t need to watch that. Then I hit Carter up. I knew that news probably traveled quick as hell of Jabari’s death. Keem probably knew it was a set up, so plans had definitely changed.

“Fuck, I got it bro,” Carter sighed into the phone after turning to the channel 7 news like I asked him to do. I didn’t even have to say what was up. We hung up and I tossed my phone on the couch next to me.
Just as quick as I sat down, I hopped back up. I had to get rid of that phone a.s.a.p. It would be just my luck that they had a tracker on it or some shit. Just the thought had me taking the phone apart. I took the battery and sim card out, then headed right back out to toss it in the first dumpster that I saw.

The reporter announced that they didn’t have any leads, but I knew that we had to make sure that we were on our shit. On the way back to Milan’s house, Keem crossed my mind. This shit was crazy as fuck. I was about to do like Carter and get the fuck out of the way. I was tired of living the fast life. I just wanted to chill out and enjoy my family. Milan and the kids were all that I needed. I had saved up enough money over the years to get a business or some shit, and be straight.

My phone beeped as soon as I pulled into the driveway. It was Keem. I started not to answer, but I needed to know what his punk ass had to say.

“You did that shit, didn’t you?” He spoke into the phone as soon as I answered. My face screwed all the way up. I wanted to tell him fuck him, but I played it cool. I didn’t want him to know that we were on to his snake ass.

“Did what?” I played dumb.

“That nigga Jabari. They found his body over on Dexter. You and your brother did that shit didn’t y’all?” The way he was asking questions over the phone made him sound like the fucking FEDS.

“I don’t got shit to do with that. But, you talkin’ real reckless over the phone.” My voice was grim. Damn, it was taking everything in me to hold a conversation.

“My bad. But, what’s up with your brother man? He got a problem with me or something?”

“Fuck that. Let me ask you something… I keep it 100 with you right?” I asked, making it inside of the house.

“Yea… yeah. And I keep it 100 with you too. What’s up?” The nigga sounded like he was lying. I shook my head.

“I just wanted to know. But, I’m gone hit you back in a few. We still need to link up. I got a few plays that I need to run by you.” After he agreed, I hung up. I didn’t know what to think about his punk ass anymore. All I knew was that he had to go.

Milan was still sitting in the same spot on the couch when I made it to the living room. She had this look on her face. I couldn’t exactly say that her expression was sadness, or if it was anger, or what. It was a sort of distant look with a soft frown.

I plopped down on the couch, scooping her into my arms. “You okay, baby?” I asked, squeezing her tight, pecking her forehead.

She sighed. “Yeah, I’m ok.” She answered barely above a whisper. I studied her face, not saying anything. She added, “Really, I’m fine Wise. I was shocked. I was even hurt, but it had to happen. I’m ok.” A piece of a smile formed on her face.

I knew that she wasn’t good. I couldn’t take her history with that lame ass nigga away. But, I appreciated her for trying to be strong. “You know it’s okay to cry though, Milan. I want you to get that shit out. Because, from this day forward, it’s all about me and you. I want us to move on from all the bullshit and do us. You been my heart since we was teenagers.” I smiled, reminiscing. “You remember the first time yo’ old bird caught me in yo’ room? She was mad as fuck.”

Milan chuckled. “Yeah, I told yo’ ass to climb out of the window. All I needed was for here to tell my dad, and things would’ve been all bad.”

I kissed my teeth, giving her the screw face. “I wasn’t about to hop my big ass out no window. She was just gone catch me. I didn’t give a fuck.”

“You never gave a fuck about anything. Wise was gone do him. I think you just wanted her to put me out so that I could move with you.” She sneered, playfully rolling her eyes.

It was my turn to smile. “Yeah, yo’ young ass was my baby back then.”

“No I wasn’t. Then why you didn’t want nobody to know that we was kicking it. And why you couldn’t be faithful to me? Huh?” Her eyes saddened a bit, as she looked up at me. “I just wanted you to do right. We would have never gone through all of this bullshit. Hell, we would have probably been married with six lil’ baby Wise’s by now.”

“Stop playing, you knew you was my baby. I was really wildin’ out back then, man. I didn’t want nobody to know who my girl was because I didn’t want nobody to come for you, trying to get back at me.” I explained truthfully. We were wild as hell. I had gotten with her a couple of years before Carter had moved to Atlanta. Milan was my first love. We was hot in the ass teenagers, sneaking around doing grown shit.

“Whatever.” She rolled her eyes again. “I love you Wise, and I just want to move on and be happy. I want a new start. Let’s take the kids and move to Atlanta with Carter.”

I took a second to think about it. Atlanta didn’t sound too bad. I had a few loose ends to tie up before we left, however, I was definitely down for the change.
