“And Justin?” Jonathan asked.

“I don't know. No one has seen him in a few months. I have to go. We'll figure out a way to get Sarah out of there.”

“Thanks. Go do what you must,” Jonathan said and ended the transmission. “Before I went through the wormhole I told you the year was 2011. What's happened since then?”

“Things on this planet dramatically changed after December 21
st
2012,” Stark began.

“The Mayan Calendar date?” Jonathan asked remembering that date being talked about frequently when he was with his friends.

“That's the day when we were apparently invaded by alien race that nearly destroyed every major city around the world. The governments around the world decided to declare martial law and began microchipping everybody because of the chaos, panic and fear that had started.

“The major cities that weren't completely destroyed were turned into concentration camps and the soldiers that guard and patrol them are actually alien human hybrids.”

“Like the ones I ran into,” he said.

“Correct. They've been planning this for at least 10 years if not more.”

“How do you know all of this?”

“Peter said you both are from another galaxy and are here to help us. You obviously weren't keeping tabs on what the governments were doing behind the scenes,” said Chen.

“We tried but that's kind of hard when you don't have access to their restricted projects,” Jonathan said

“I'm sure you're aware that extraterrestrials have been visiting this planet for thousands of years. Some have crashed and been retrieved and used for back engineering. That's how the Shadowgate Society is using craft that can fly without jet propulsion engines.”

“And their suits are back engineered from my suit,” Jonathan added.

“So that how the suits were designed,” Chen wondered.

“I'm afraid so,” Jonathan frowned.

“They've turned this planet into a dystopian society,” said Stark.

“And you're the resistance that's fighting them,” Jonathan guessed.

“Our numbers are slowly growing but not by much. The people up on the surface are still too scared to resist.”

“They won't be for long,” he said.

“What do you mean?” Chen asked.

“Silverwolf is going to give them that hope they've been desperately waiting for,” Jonathan said looking down at his gloves.

Chapter
28

Jonathan desperately wanted to save Sarah but he couldn't do it until he had Peter repair the suit. He was more of a technical engineer than Jonathan ever was. He was mostly a soldier even though he knew his way around a computer system.

“So, you and Peter?” he asked Chen as she flew the captured black craft to Niagra Falls. Luckily the ship had a cloaking device and stealth technology. They were using both so they wouldn't be picked up on enemy radar.

Jonathan was sitting next to Chen as she kept an eye on her flying as well as on the ships radar. Certainly, it was picking up other craft in the area but none of them were alerted to their presence.

“Yeah, we met roughly a year after you disappeared just when things started to get ugly in this country,” she smiled.

“Well he's lucky to have found you. You're a very sweet girl and pretty, I might add. I can see why he took a liking to you,” he said.

Chen blushed for a moment.

“You know, I'm surprised we haven't been spotted yet considering this is a stolen vehicle,” he said.

“Peter made some modifications to the system so it would remain undetected while we're in the air.”

“Doesn't this have a tracking device?”

“He took care of that as well by removing it,” she smiled.

“So why isn’t the resistance microchipped like the rest of the remaining population?”

“We were before we joined. Then we started using those electronic zappers on our wrist so it would destroy the chips circuitry, rendering it useless,” she explained.

“I'm sure it hurts though,” he said.

“It does but only for a few minutes.”

Jonathan looked out the view port of the craft observing the landscape below. It was starting to remind him of his home planet of Vega.

“We're here,” Chen said.

He watched as she flew the craft towards the magnificent falls before guiding it in under the falling water. Hidden underneath was a large sliding door that opened, revealing a massive hangar inside. There were a group people who seemed to be waiting for them to dock, including a familiar face.

The craft came to final halt remaining hovered in the air even after Chen shut down all the major systems. They were then teleported onto the hangar floor by the ship’s teleportation system. There, Jonathan was greeted by a long time friend, Peter, who walked over to him giving him a big hug.

“It's good to see you again, buddy. I thought you were dead,” Peter said.

“They can't get rid of me that easily,” he said.

“How was the trip over? Any problems?” Peter asked his girlfriend.

“No. It was smooth sailing all the way,” she answered.

“Terrific. It looks like my engineering genius paid off,” he gloated.

“By the way, I heard about Justin disappearing,” he said.

“Well, I'm sure he'll show up eventually. They both injured each other pretty badly the last time they went up against one another. But let's not worry about that right now and focus instead on getting you settled in.”

“And while I'm doing that, here,” Jonathan said handing him his silver gloves. “The suit needs to be repaired before I go after Sarah.”

“You're planning on going alone?”

“Well, with your help I won't be alone.”

“Rescuing Sarah might be more difficult than you think.”

“Why?”

“San Francisco is crawling with elite soldiers. It's like a fortress in that city. You'll be lucky to escape alive.”

“That never stopped us before,” he grinned

“No but maybe you should consider taking some extra help with you this time.”

“They would have to be really skilled in combat.”

“I think you'll find they're more than just skilled in combat,” Peter said as he turned his attention away from his friend looking over at the door that led into the hangar.

Jonathan turned around and saw two more friends that he had not seen in years.

“Summeris? Gwork?” Jonathan was shocked to see them both.

“It is good to see you again, old friend,” Gwork said as he bowed showing respect.

“It has been far too long, Jonathan,” Summeris smiled.

Jonathan walked over to them gave each of them a hug. The last time he saw them both was before he left to come to Earth for the first time several years ago.

“What are you two doing here?” he asked.

“The Oracle heard of your situation and asked that we come to lend a hand in defeating the Shadowgate Society. We are offering our technical knowledge as well as some of our resources,” Gwork said who was always humble and soft spoken.

“You have been a dear close friend to both of us, Jonathan. It is the least we can do to express our gratitude,” Summeris added.

“Tell me about the war in Andromeda system,” asked Jonathan.

“It still rages on but if the Draconan Empire reaches this planet in mass numbers my brothers from the Zeta Reticuli star system have promised me that they we will help stop them should it come to that,” Gwork answered.

“Thank you both. I've always considered both of you the dearest of friends,” Jonathan said.

“What about me?” Peter asked.

“Fix the suit and I'll consider it,” Jonathan grinned.

“Very funny,” said Peter knowing Jonathan was joking with him.

“I don't remember you having a sense of humor,” a new voice said.

Jonathan turned around to see another familiar face walking over to him.

“I'll be damned. Colonel Caldwell. You're still alive,” he said wrapping his arms around the Colonel.

“Yes and in good health,” he smiled.

“How did you manage not to get killed or captured by the enemy?”

“That's a long story. I will tell you some other time,” he answered.

“Fair enough,” Jonathan said.

Finally after they all left the hangar, Peter showed Jonathan his new place of residence which happened to be Peter’s current living quarters. It was small with two beds a desk and a chair. In fact all the rooms were pretty much the same except the lab where Peter, Gwork and a few others worked on upgrading weapons and armor.

After settling into his new room, Jonathan’s body demanded that he get some sleep even though his mind was still on Sarah. According to reports coming from some of the people living in the base who came from San Francisco, she was still alive. That gave him some comfort but not enough. He would’ve preferred to have her in his arms rather than be out there all alone.

Jonathan couldn't remember the last time he slept freely without being put under sedation. Being a spiritually balanced human, he usually didn't require much sleep. But after the last few days his body needed it.

Jonathan finally got into the bed, closed his eyes and finally fell into a deep peaceful sleep thinking about Sarah.

Chapter 2
9

It felt like she was living in hell only Sarah knew she wasn't dead yet. Like everyone else, she was wearing an orange prison suit. It was approaching midnight. She yawned from feeling exhausted.

She stared out her apartment window on the second floor watching as the world continued to throw itself into chaos. On the streets below she could hear screams coming from innocent victims of possible rape and murder that would more than likely be dealt with. she heard dogs barking. There was no electricity in the city except where the elite guards were posted.

About every few blocks there was a huge barricade with soldiers guarding it. You couldn't get in or out without special permission. There was no food except what was delivered to your door which was only bread and water. In fact the entire city was like a prison.

She felt cold inside in her apartment mainly because there was no heat except for the small fireplace she had going. But she also felt a sense of emptiness. The only warmth she had was when she thought about Jonathan and where he was. She missed him terribly. Sometime she would even cry. She just hoped he would find her so this nightmare for her would be over.

In the sky a huge holographic image came to life projecting a man in his mid fifties. He wore a Gestapo like uniform and had a beard. He called himself the ‘Care Taker.’

“Greetings once again fellow patrons. I am Richard Gibson. Since the establishment of our one world government, it has been our top priority to maintain order and security not only for you but for us as well. Recently there has been an uprising in certain sectors of the populace which, thankfully have been properly dealt with. I ask for your cooperation in letting us do our job to protect you. As long as you cooperate, no harm will come to you.”

Sarah didn't want to hear anymore of it. She was told he had been making announcements like this since the invasion a year ago. No one liked him. Nor did they trust him. But no one had much of a choice in the matter. They were outgunned and living in constant fear of this oppression that was upon them; including her.

After turning away from the window she went over to fireplace and sat down to warm herself up. The heat of the fire on her hands and face felt good. It wasn't long before she heard a knock at the door. She quickly got up to answer it. It was her neighbor, Laura, who had been living next door to her since they relocated her.

“Hey Sarah,” she smiled.

“Hey Laura. What's up?” she asked, trying her best not to look sad.

“There's secret talks going on that the underground resistance has started.”

“I know but its surprising they haven't found them, considering the fact that they've microchipped the population.”

“They must have found a way to deactivate the chips.”

“It would be nice to know.”

“No kidding.”

“You want to come in?” I offered.

“Yeah, sure. It gets lonely when you live by yourself.”

“Same here.”

Sarah was glad to have a friend like Laura. She was relieved that Laura wasn't one of the unfortunate women out there getting raped. Laura walked over to the kitchen table and sat down. Sarah followed before sitting down next to her.

“Can I ask you a personal question?” she asked.

“Sure,” she said.

“Why the special interest in you?” she asked.

At first Sarah was hesitant to answer but she knew she could trust her. She then proceeded to tell Laura the whole story about her time with Jonathan two and a half years ago and when they had them locked up at Edwards Air Force Base while interrogating them. Her story continued on explaining that her journey took her to Jonathan's planet and coming back. Sarah finished by telling her about her second capture after Jonathan went missing.
