TURN ON YOUR “JOY” CENTER

eeling blue? Want to feel happy? Stimulate your “Joy” center.

Fifty years ago, Dr. Robert Heath, a neurologist and psychiatrist at Tulane University School of Medicine, electrically stimulated the septum pellucidum area in the brain of patients suffering from severe depression. The electrical stimulation immediately altered the patients’ moods from severe depression to joyfulness.
Dr. Heath attached wires to the area, brought the wires out of the patient’s heads, and attached the wires to a battery. This allowed his patients to activate the septum pellucidum by pressing a button. Now, when they became depressed, they pressed the button, their septum pellucid was stimulated, and their mood changed from depression to happiness. The problem was that the thin wires often detached or broke. Besides, wires coming out of someone’s head are not practical (or attractive). Thus, this way of altering mood was not
accepted. The idea of stimulating this area in the brain was, however, picked up by pharmaceutical companies. These companies developed drugs to alter patients’ moods, often with undesirable side effects.
Stimulating your septum pellucidum mentally is better than using drugs and it is without side effects. First you need to know where your septum pellucidum is located. Picture a horizontal line going into your head just above the bridge of your nose. This spot is often called the “third eye.” Then picture a horizontal line going in from just above your left ear. The septum pellucidum area is where the lines meet. The septum pellucidum is fibrous and delicate.
Stimulate the septum pellucidum like this. Relax and go into the alpha state. Tell your subconscious mind you want to stimulate your septum pellucidum to make you feel happy and joyful. Your subconscious mind knows where it is. Act as if it does and be confident that you are going to become happy and joyous. Mentally picture the fibrous area in your brain as a delicate string instrument and very gently strum it barely touching the strings. It is that easy. Here is a suggested conditioning routine.
CONDITIONING EXERCISE—
JOY CENTER
Close your eyes. Allow yourself to relax...deeply relax.
Let go of all tension. Be aware of your head and let it relax. The muscles in your head are now relaxed. Be aware of your shoulders and arms. The muscles in your shoulders and arms are now relaxed. Be aware of your torso. The muscles in your back, chest, and stomach are now relaxed. Be aware of your buttocks and legs. The muscles in your buttocks and legs are now relaxed.
Now relax your mind. Count...3...2...1...and picture the word “ALPHA. ”You are now in the healthy alpha state of consciousness. Your subconscious mind is open and eager to obey your positive, healthful suggestions.
Go even deeper into the alpha state. I am going to count from 10 to 1. When I get to 1, you are in the deepest alpha. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1. You are now at an even deeper level.
Think of a time you were very happy. Picture your reactions. See the big smile on your face. Hear yourself react to the feelings of happiness. Hear your laughter. Feel the warmth, goodness, and tingling throughout your body. Enjoy this feeling...relish it...retain it
.You now have the intent to stimulate your septum pellucidum, your joy center, and you expect to make yourself even happier
.Visualize your brain and, in your mind’s eye, enter your brain on your left side just above your left ear. Proceed to the center of your brain where your joy center is located. Your subconscious mind knows where it is
.Picture your joy center as a tiny delicate angel’s harp. Now gently...ever so gently...strum the strings of the harp. And as you strum the thin strings of the harp, feel the vibrations...feel happier and happier. Once again gently strum the strings and instantly feel the warm glow of happiness engulf you. The happiness starts
in your limbic system and sends neurotransmitters throughout your body. Everywhere. Even your hands feel happy...joyful...your feet and legs feel happy. Your entire body feels joy and happiness. Relish this feeling and remember it
.Feel a large happy grin form on your face. The source is from your limbic system. You cannot stop the grin. Go ahead and try. The harder you try, the bigger your grin gets. That’s okay. Go ahead and smile...you’re happy
.Any time you want to feel happy and joyful...any time you want to feel positive and upbeat, simply go into the alpha state and gently strum your joy center harp. Your harp loves to be played. It only takes a few strums. It’s very effective. Your subconscious mind loves to feel happy and joyful. Your body loves to be happy. Feelings of happiness stimulate your immune system. Feelings of happiness promote good health. Feelings of happiness promote an upbeat, delightful sense of humor. Feelings of happiness make you even more lovable. Feelings of happiness make you capable of loving even more than you do now
.Remember your joy center. Your joy center can reverse any negative mood. Your joy center can learn to be active all the time. Let it be active. Encourage it. Allow your joy center harp to play the tune of happiness all the time. Allow your immune system to be active and happy, all the time. Allow your body...all of it...all your organs...all your muscles...all your joints...all of your neural system...your blood...everything about you...every cell in your body to feel and express happiness. Exude happiness
.Now return to the awake state and bring all of these happiness feelings with you. They are yours...yours to keep...yours to use for your highest good
.3...2...1...wide awake and happy!
SUBCONSCIOUS CROCK-POT
Crock-pots cook meals while the cook is away doing something else. Crock-pots cook slowly at a low temperature. Your subconscious mind is “cooking” 24 hours a day and it can do trillions of things simultaneously. So, why not allow your genie to work for you while you do other things, even while you sleep?
Rev. Eric Butterworth is a successful Unity minister in New York City who has a reputation for “impromptu” sermons. Well, they are not exactly impromptu. This is the way he describes his method of preparing sermons.
One month before he delivers the sermon he writes the subject on the tab of a folder. He jots down all the thoughts he has on a sheet of paper and tucks it in the folder. He puts the folder in a special drawer and then forgets it (consciously.) One month later, the sermon is formulated in his mind with little conscious effort.
What Rev. Butterworth really does is put the sermon in his subconscious crock-pot. He gives his subconscious crock-pot the goal of preparing the sermon for him. Then, he “forgets” it consciously, but his subconscious mind picks up ideas, organizes, and stores them in his
mental
folder.
Let’s say the subject of the sermon is “Love.” During the next week, someone in his congregation tells him a story that epitomizes unselfish love expressed by a benevolent act. The story is unconsciously filed in his mental folder. Later Rev. Butterworth reads a heart-warming story about the devotion
expressed by an elderly couple. This story is also unconsciously filed in his mental folder. His subconscious mind is also organizing the sermon so when the Sunday arrives, Rev. Butterworth seems to talk off the cuff, but actually the sermon has been incubating for a month.
I used this method successfully in my career in aerospace. Due to the nature of aerospace work, there was seldom time to write reports ahead of time. We were so busy daily doing hot jobs that those monthly, quarterly, and semiannual reports snuck up on us, leaving inadequate time to prepare them.
I solved this problem by giving the job to my mental crock-pot. Well ahead of the due date of a given report, I would do my best to outline the report and jot down all my ideas. This only took a few minutes. Usually the content of the proposed report would be unorganized. I just wrote down whatever I could in no particular order.
During the time when my subconscious crock-pot was cooking, thoughts would bubble up from my subconscious mind. For example, I might realize that another chemical analysis was needed to prove a critical point, or that I needed to send away for some necessary information. Then, when I started to write the report at the last minute, the information was available and the outline was already organized in my mind. Many times the report flowed with little effort. Had I not started the report early in my subconscious crock-pot, I would have been up most of the night before it was due, and the hurried report would not have been as complete or coherent.
