I would like to dedicate this book to my mum
who is no longer with us and would me
surprise and proud of this book.
I would also like to thank a very special
friends who encouraged me to publish this
book you’re all amazing and mean a lot to me.
And finally my daughter who inspires me
every day I love you lots baby.
Katie and her four year old daughter
Rhiannon were sitting in Katie’s best friend
Melissa’s flat with their friend Tessa waiting
for Melissa and their friend Claire to come
home from the airport.
Melissa had been in Greece for six
months working as a receptionist for Sillas
Construction Company, they were the biggest
and most famous architecture company in the
world, designing office block, sky scrapers
and luxury hotels in America, Australia,
France, Italy, England and Greece.
Melissa had asked them to meet her at
her flat because she had some important news
for them.
“Mummy, how long will Auntie Mel
and Auntie Claire be?” Rhiannon asked.
“They won’t be long sweetheart.” Katie
smiled running her fingers through
Rhiannon’s long thick blonde hair. Despite
her fears of becoming a single mother when
she was just nineteen, Rhiannon had been the
best thing to happen to Katie. She had been
terrified when the doctor had told her she was
pregnant, she was eighteen years old and her
Australian surfer boyfriend had just returned
to his home country, Katie knew she was
never going to hear from him again. Melissa,
Ten minutes later the flat door opened
and Rhiannon ran out to the hallway. “Hello
gorgeous!” They heard Melissa say.
“I’ve missed you Auntie Mel!”
“I’ve missed you too.” Melissa walked
into the lounge smiling with Rhiannon in her
arms.
“At last the wonderer returns!” Tessa
smiled as she hugged Melissa.
“For a while.”
“What do you mean?” Katie asked.
“Have they renewed your contract?”
“Erm…not exactly.” She smiled.
“Spill the beans Mel!”
“I’m engaged.”
“What? Since when? Who to?” Tessa
looked stunned.
“I’ve been dating Theo Sillas’ son for
four months, and he proposed last week.”
Melissa grinned holding out her left hand to
“You’re marrying the heir to the Sillas
Construction Company?” Tessa said.
“No, I’m marrying the younger son
Nikos, Andreus is the heir.”
“Your still marrying a millionaire!”
“I’m crazy about him.” Melissa smiled.
“So you’ll be moving to Greece.”
Claire said sadly. “It wont be the five of us
anymore.”
“Yes, I’ll be moving to Greece but I’ll
be coming home loads, Nikos has a lot of
business here. Plus you’ll all get a lot of free
holidays!” Katie smiled sadly, she knew she’d
never be able to afford to go to Greece, not on
her measly part time wage packet from the
book shop.
“Are you ok?” Melissa asked Katie.
“Of course! I’m so happy for you.”
“When is the big day?” Tessa asked.
“In eight weeks! So we have a lot to do
girlies. We’ve got five dressed to buy for the
wedding and I’ve got to pack up the flat. I’m
so excited!”
“Five dresses?” Katie looked confused.
“Yes us five, of course you four are
going to be my bridesmaids!”
“Are you getting married in England
then?”
“Mel, Rhiannon and I can’t come.”
“Oh mummy!”
“No sweetie.”
“Why not?” Melissa put her hands on
her hips and glared at Katie. “What’s more
important than your best friend’s wedding?”
“Nothing! But I can’t afford the flights
let alone accommodation and spending
money! I’m skint.”
“Nik’s paying for all four of you and
my parents.”
“No way! I don’t accept charity.”
“Katie, its not just for you two, he’s
paying for anyone I want to come to the
wedding, and everyone will be staying at his
parents villa. All you’ll need is minimal
spending money.”
“I’m sorry.” Katie took Rhiannon’s
hand and walked out of the flat.
Melissa sat down with tears in her eyes.
“I should have told Nik we have to get
married here.”
“Is he really paying for everyone? Or
just Katie and Rhiannon?” Claire asked.
“All of you.”
“Then we will talk her around. When
do we get to meet Nikos?”
“He’s coming over on Friday, he’s got a
“Hello beautiful. Are you home yet?”
He asked with the deep sexy accented voice
she loved.
“Yes I got home about fifteen minutes
ago.”
“Were your friends happy about our
engagement?”
“Yeah, they’re really excited. Nik we
have to change our plans.”
“Why have you changed your mind
already?”
“No! Of course I haven’t. It’s just my
best friend wont come to Greece.”
“Why not?”
“She said she can’t afford to and I want
her to be at my wedding.”
“Sweetheart I’ve already said I will pay
for anyone you want to come to the wedding.”
“I know but she said she wont accept
that.”
“We’ll talk to her this weekend my
love. I have to go, I walked out of a meeting
to call you. I love you.”
“I love you too.” She hung up and
turned to talk to Claire and Tessa to find that
they had left. “Goodbye then.” She said sadly
to herself.
“I’ve already told you I cant afford it
Rhiannon! Now stop with the paddy.” Katie
sighed as she sank onto the sofa in the living
room where her parents were watching the
television.
“What’s wrong love?” Heather asked.
“Mel’s getting married in Greece in
eight weeks.”
“Surely that’s good news.”
“Of course it is, but she wants
Rhiannon and I to go. How can I afford that?”
she stood up and got her bank statements, she
calculated her money and worked out she
could just about afford to let Rhiannon go
when there was a knock on the door. Gregory
went to open it then came back followed by
Tessa and Claire.
“Are you ok?” Claire asked.
“No, not really.”
“Honey, Nik really is paying for all of
us to go to the wedding.”
“I wont let him pay for us! Do you
know what it’s like having to rely on other
people all the time? No of course you don’t
because you two have well paid, full time
jobs.”
“Sweetheart swallow your pride for
once.” Heather said. “We’ll give you some
spending money.” Katie opened her mouth to
argue. “As an early birthday present.” Heather
interrupted.
“Ok, fine, I’ll accept it.” Katie
mumbled. “But only for Mel’s sake.”
“Excellent! Come back to the flat with
us and we’ll tell her.” Claire said
“We’ll look after Rhiannon.” Gregory
smiled.
Melissa was getting out of the shower
when the girls let themselves into the flat.
“Where did you two go?” She asked as she
“To talk to a stubborn cow.” Tessa
laughed pushing Katie towards Melissa.
“Mel I’m so sorry I upset you, you’ve
done so much for me…”
“Like what?” Melissa looked confused.
Katie listed off all the things Tessa had said
and a lot more. “So? That’s what friends are
for.”
“Is the offer still open for Nik to pay
for us?!
“You’ll come to Greece?”
“If you want me there.”
“I wouldn’t get married WITHOUT
you there.” Melissa hugged her. “Is Rhiannon
coming too?”
“As if she would let us go without her.”
Katie laughed.
“Brilliant! I’ve got to text Nik.”

Chapter 2
Melissa was just finishing her make up
when the doorbell rang at six o’clock. She ran
her fingers through her long dark brown hair
and straightened her black dress before
opening the door, she took a deep breath as
Nikos smiled, he looked so incredibly
handsome in the light grey tailored suit with a
white shirt open at the neck. His black hair so
thick and lush, neatly styled and his almost
black eyes looking deeply into hers. “Hi.” He
smiled. “Do I have to stand here all evening
whilst you stare at me?” Nikos laughed.
“I’ve missed you.” he growled pinning
her against the wall and running hands over
her slender hips.
“I’ve missed you too.”
“What time are your parents expecting
us?”
“In about half an hour.”
“Damn!” He laughed. “We’d better get
going before I lose all self control.”
The meeting went well then they went
back to her flat. “Do you like my parents?”
She asked as they cuddled naked in bed.
“Of course I do! Why wouldn’t I?” Nik
ran his fingers down her back.
“No reason. It’s just some people don’t
get on.”
“Well I like them.”
“Good.” She smiled and kissed him.
The next evening Katie, Claire and
Tessa arrived at Melissa’s flat at seven
o’clock, Nikos had booked a table at a quiet
Italian bistro for eight. “Hi!” Claire called as
she let them into the flat.
“Hey.” Melissa smiled. Nikos walked
into the living room smiling as Melissa
“It’s nice to finally meet you all.”
“You too.” Katie smiled before looking
at Melissa grinning, sexy she mouthed as
Melissa laughed.
They sat talking for a while then left for
the bistro. “So was Mel your receptionist at
the company?” Katie asked.
“No, my brother Andreus’”
“So you weren’t the one shouting at her
when she was caught using the office phone
to call us?”
“No.” He laughed. “Andreus is the
tyrant not me, I’m the laid back brother.”
“Andreus is not that bad!” Melissa said
defending her old boss and future brother-inlaw.
“He made you cry more than once if I
recall correctly?”
“That was before I realised his bark is
far worse than his bite.”
“Until I shouted at him for being mean
to you.” Nikos grinned.
“How old are you Nik?” Tessa asked.
“Twenty six.”
“Andreus is twenty nine and single,
girls.” Melissa grinned.
“Single?” Nikos laughed. “Four
girlfriends, you call that single?”
“I believe Andreus is a confirmed
bachelor my love.”
“I don’t think so.” Melissa smiled.
Chapter 3
Seven weeks later Melissa, her parents
Charlie and Maureen, Katie, Rhiannon, Claire
and Tessa left for Athens. Their dresses had
been sent the week before and Nikos’ mother
Sophia had promised they had been hung in a
bedroom and the door had been locked so
Nikos couldn’t see them.
“Are we staying in an hotel Auntie
Mel?” Rhiannon asked.
“No sweetie, we are all staying at Nik’s
parents house.”
