 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord,
and see
how they do.
37
 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
38
 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
39
 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
40
 and Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.
41
 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father
was
a Greek:
2
 which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3
 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
4
 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5
 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6
 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
7
 after they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
8
 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.
9
 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
10
 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
11
 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next
day
to Neapolis;
12
 and from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia,
and
a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13
 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted
thither.
14
 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard
us:
whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15
 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought
us,
saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide
there.
And she constrained us.

right hand, and beheld, but
there was
no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

my refuge
and
my portion in the land of the living.

 Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.

 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.

 Wisdom
is
before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool
are
in the ends of the earth.

 A foolish son
is
a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the L
ORD
hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
2
 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
3
 And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
4
 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5
 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this
is
the woman, and this
is
her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
6
 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that
was
hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
7
 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither.
8
 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of the L
ORD
by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
9
 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
10
 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the L
ORD
hath shewed me that he shall surely die.
11
 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
12
 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord?
And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
13
 And Hazael said, But what,
is
thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing?
And Elisha answered, The L
ORD
hath shewed me that thou
shalt be
king over Syria.
14
 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee?
And he answered, He told me
that
thou shouldest surely recover.
15
 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped
it
in water, and spread
it
on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead.
16
 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat
being
then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
17
 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
18
 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the L
ORD
.
19
 Yet the L
ORD
would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light,
and
to his children.
20
 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
21
 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
22
 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
23
 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did,
are
they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
24
 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
25
 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
26
 Two and twenty years old
was
Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name
was
Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
27
 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the L
ORD
, as
did
the house of Ahab: for he
was
the son in law of the house of Ahab.
28
 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramoth-gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29
 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead:
2
 and when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
3
 then take the box of oil, and pour
it
on his head, and say, Thus saith the L
ORD
, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
4
 So the young man,
even
the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead.
5
 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host
were
sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain.
And Jehu said, Unto which of all us?
And he said, To thee, O captain.
6
 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the L
ORD
God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the L
ORD
,
even
over Israel.
7
 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the L
ORD
, at the hand of Jezebel.
8
 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:
9
 and I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:
10
 and the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and
there shall be
none to bury
her.
And he opened the door, and fled.
11
 Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and
one
said unto him,
Is
all well? wherefore came this mad
fellow
to thee?
And he said unto them, Ye know the man, and his communication.
12
 And they said,
It is
false; tell us now.
And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith the L
ORD
, I have anointed thee king over Israel.
13
 Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put
it
under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.
