FIRST AND FOREMOST, it’s imperative that I thank the lovely Madelyn Stankiewicz. If it weren’t for you, this book would not be a reality. Tate would still be cooped up inside my head and I would be alone with my macabre crazy. You will always be my alpha reader, and you’ve probably read this manuscript about as many times as I have. (“MADDIE, CAN YOU PLEASE READ THIS IN THE NEXT HOUR?!?!”) Thank you for everything you do for me (sunglasses emoji) and for listening to my crazy 3AM rants. Tate will always be ours… and to a fault, so will Jesse.
Chyti Kompala, thank you for helping me read through this manuscript over, and over, and OVER to find nitty gritty little issues. I don’t know where I would be without all of the support that you provide me with when I’m constantly ranting about this or that. You witnessed my first Tate-esque actions that one time in fifth grade when we were at Cal-Wood and we shared a bag of orange gummy candies that I won for being the first one to find a dead deer in the woods. Looking back on it, I find it sort of concerning that there was even a prize for that… P.S. I’ve got the Nick Jonas basic winter look down to a science.
To my beta readers, I love each and every one of you so much. I’m so lucky to have such a beautiful group of dedicated readers and bloggers, and I hope you’ll be interested in future projects. You all had very honest feedback for me, and it was exactly what I needed. Thank you for taking time out of your lives to make this book what it is.
To my beautiful friends Erin Bove, Amanda Arner, Hannah Stanley, Linden Northern, Katherine Shanahan, and Sophie Saouma, thank you for reading it after the beta round. You’ll never know how much I appreciate you for putting up with my endless rants about the publishing world.
Courtney Lindau, thank you so much for always being there for me with words of encouragement right when I need them. You mean the world to me!
Jacki O’Connor, you never fail to make me laugh. Thank you for always being interested in what I’m writing!
Dize Hacioglu, thank you for your endless support and for sending me that Ted Talk by Elizabeth Gilbert—it helped more than you know.
To my family, thank you for putting up with me while I was extremely Old Tate-like while writing this book. I was no picnic to be around. I especially want to thank grandmother, Tanine (who is the exact opposite of Lara), and my aunt Stephanie for being so involved and always encouraging me to continue to write no matter what. Dad… I’m still waiting to read that book of yours.
Katie Molloy, thank you for your beautiful words and support during the editing process.
Jovana Shirley, you truly went above and beyond. I can’t thank you enough for being so incredibly accommodating and dealing with my affinity for extra paragraphs and commas!
Sarah Hansen, you’ve done it again. You must be a magician, because I have no other explanation for how your covers are created. You have no idea how many compliments I get every day solely on your work.
Julie Titus, thank you for making the inside of this book look as beautiful as the outside! You went above and beyond with IGNITE, and I’ll forever be grateful! I’m truly blessed to have found you. Formatters
matter.
Abbey Hallam, Emma Giordano, Caitlin Da Silva, Christylle Ibanez, Natasha Minoso, and Gabrielle Alexis, I just love you guys. We need to be friends in real life, ASAP. We can play the Dean Powell version of Where’s Waldo, or something.
Cynthia Rodriguez, I’m so happy Courtney introduced us! I love our round-the-clock chats about all things writing and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our books.
Elia Sayre, thank you for going so far above expectation in everything you do, every single day. Bloggers, when you wonder why you get responses from her in the middle of the night or on the weekend, it’s because she’s not human. She’s a PR machine. Thank you for working tirelessly to help me get my books out into the world!
To the real Catherine, thank you for letting me use little pieces of our lives and conversations while embellishing the rest. Life without you would be so dull. New York will always be ours.
To the men who inspired Colin, Jesse, and Hayden… I guess we’ll see if you ever discover your fictional counterparts.
And since I can’t get out of this now after the response to it in IGNITE, I’ll make a habit out of it. If you can’t win an Oscar, I guess you can still “win” a spot in my books. So thanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, for just… doing life
.
Lastly, thank you to everyone who read this book. I wouldn’t be here continuing to write and publish without your support. If you have anything that you want to share with me (good or bad) email me! I want to hear your thoughts, questions, and (if you have one) I want to hear about your Jesse. I also love snail mail letters and I will do my best to write you back! You can find my mailing address on my website.
