“Where’
s Sam?” Lisa asked. He said she was in the shower.

“Lisa, she’
s upset. Got a call last night; anything wrong?” He was concerned and knew that he should be talking to Sam. But it was difficult to be alone with her around here. There were always people coming and going.

“Was it a man?” She asked. Jay said he didn’t
know.  “Jay, her divorce is almost final. It has been very dramatic, to say the least. My guess is it was her ex.” Lisa touched his arm affectionately. She liked him.

“Ask her.” She touched his cheek with her index finger. Got up and went to find Sam.

Jay and Nick watched her leave.

“I’
ll share her with you bro!” Nick joked. And they both laughed.

“No thanks. I have the woman of my dreams.” Jay said as if thinking out loud. Nick laughed.

“She has too much baggage man, an acrimonious divorce. Spells trouble to me.” He slapped Jay on the arm. “Thought she was only a piece of ass?”  Jay laughed.

“And a great piece of ass she is too man.” Sam was in the hall as she heard what Jay had said. They both roared with laughter. So, she had misread the tenderness he had shown her last night. She turned and went back up the stairs.

“But seriously man. I feel strongly for this girl,” Jay was saying. “I want her to stay here and not go back to London.” Nick stared at him in disbelief.

“Man you sure about that?” Jay said he was. “Dude, you’
re crazy!” They slapped each other fondly on the back.

“Ever think about settling down, Nick?” Jay was being very serious. Nick sat down and said:

“Jay, we’
ve been friends a long time. But settling down with a chick you hardly know.”

“I’
m getting too old for this, dude, all these groupies shoving it in your face, but no feelings. When have you ever been with a girl and it meant something to be in bed with her?” Jay picked up a glass of juice. “I never have, dude, until now!”

Lying on her bed, Sam sobbed freely. She couldn’t believe that after all she had shared with Jay, that this was all he thought she was. ‘
She’s a great piece of ass!’
She knew she had fallen in love with him. What a fool she had been.

There was a slight knock on the door and then Jay popped his head around.

“Are you OK Sam?” She took a deep breath. She wasn’
t going to let him know she was upset.

“Perfect.” She got up and brushed past him and walked down the hall. Jay watched her bemused.

The other two band members were sitting around the pool drinking coke. Sam greeted them flirtatiously. Nick looked at her funnily. She went over to Pete, the drummer and began talking and flirting with him. She was touching his arm when she spoke to him. He was telling some joke that wasn

t really funny but Sam laughed at it anyway. Lisa came over to her and put her arm into hers and they went over to the sofas.

“Sam,” she shrieked “What are you playing at?” Jay came out and Nick quickly grabbed his attention.

“I’m having a good time. You know what that’
s like, don

t you Lisa?” Lisa looked over questioningly at Nick.

“What’
s going on? Are you crazy, flirting with Pete like that?” Just then Jay came over with Nick.

“Hey ladies,” He said smiling. “Mind if I steal Sam for a few hours Lisa?” He winked at her.

“I’
m standing right here and I have the ability to answer for myself. Thanks.” She retorted. “Lisa and I have plans this afternoon!” She stood up and went inside. He stared after her. There was disbelief written all over him.

“Jay, she’
s just upset and tired. I

ll take good care of her. OK.” She kissed him on the cheek and went to find Sam.

Chapter Twelve

In a trendy restaurant in Downtown LA, Sam and Lisa had lunch. They were alone. Sam picked at her food as Lisa told her about having a good time with Nick.

She looked at Sam and asked her what had happened to make her so upset. A tear escaped down her cheek and she told Lisa everything about the phone call from Dan and all that he had said to her.

“Sam.” Lisa touched her hand. “He’
s a pathetic loser. You

re well shut of him.” Then she told her what she heard Jay say to Nick. Lisa was stunned.

“Are you sure he wasn’
t just teasing? You know what a joker he is.” Sam said she wasn

t sure.

“Lisa, I’
m falling in love with him,” she brushed away a tear. “I was doing so well until he came into my life.” But she knew that wasn

t true.

“He’
s concerned about you Sam.” Lisa said. “You could have blown it this morning if he came out and saw you with Pete.” Sam laughed.

“Was it very bad?”

“Yes. And you bit his head off for no reason. Geeze Sam. He’
s a great guy.” She cringed and as the waiter passed she ordered two ice teas.

A few minutes later, he returned with them and he had a newspaper under his arm. Something caught her attention so she asked if she could see the paper.  He handed it to her.

There on the front page was a picture of her holding Jay

s hand gazing up into his face fondly. The headline read:

“Who is this mysterious redheaded beauty that captured GM Jay’
s heart?

Not for the first time this past week has the glam rocker been photographed with this mystery woman, they seem to be completely wrapped up in each other. A source said the two met several weeks ago when Glam Metal were on tour and have been inseparable since.

Another source claims, the mysterious redhead is a well known groupie from Australia and has been linked with other rockers from there.

One thing is clear from this picture; the two seem very happy and close. I wish I knew groupies like that. Some guys have all the fun!”

Sam was furious. She passed the paper to Lisa. She gaped at it in astonishment. Then she looked at Sam.

“Who would have said that?” Sam thought immediately of Nick. But she didn’t
say anything. With all these photographers around, they could be anywhere. What if they had photographed Jay and her last night in the hot tub? She took out her phone and dialed his number.

“Jay!” She said almost in tears.

“Darlin, miss me already?” He laughed his sexy laugh.

“Jay, we’
re on the front page of the local rag I assume.” He swore. There was a brief silence.

“Sam you stay where you are. I’
m coming babe.” The line went silent.

She looked out onto the sidewalk and there were two guys pacing up and down with cameras slung over their backs. The maître’d would not allow them into the restaurant. Sam groaned.

Half an hour later, Jay

s Mercedes pulled up outside and he got out. He wore a wide smile as he strode up the steps of the restaurant and greeted Sam with a kiss on the cheek. The photographers were livid as they saw him sit down and they couldn’t shoot a single photo. Two beat cops strolled up to them and moved them on.

Jay gave a slight wave and a smile as they were moved on. He turned to Sam and asked:

“You OK, Darlin?” His arm was on the back of her chair, he sounded genuinely concerned. She showed him the paper. He looked at it, a smile crossed his face as he put it down and glanced at her. “You get around, don’
t you?” She couldn’t help but laugh.

As they left the restaurant he signed two autographs for a couple of teenage girls. He opened the door for Sam and Lisa and got in the other side.

Back at his house he took her to his den and closed the door. Sam sat down on the extra wide sofa.

“What’
s up Sam? What

s changed since last night in the tub Darlin?” She flashed him a look.

“I think you know,” she retorted sharply. “I quote: ‘
A great piece of ass!

I think you

ll find that that

s almost a direct quote.” He swore.

“Did you hear the rest?” He came over to her. She moved slightly. She could smell his aftershave. He always smelled good.

“Wasn’
t that enough to hear. Did I really want to hear you give Nick all the gory details?” He laughed. So she hadn

t heard. Her eyes flashed angrily at him.

“Sam, I know you’
re hurting. And it

s not cuz of what you heard two guys talk about.” He was almost pleading with her. She looked away as a tear escaped and ran down her face.

“You’
re right. That was Dan on the phone last night.” Her voice was shaky. She told him everything. He held her close.“Thing is, I can

t wait to get home and sign the papers and be free of him.”

“Your
life in London, it

s very good huh?”  She nodded.

“I plan on opening my own gallery.” She looked into his eyes. “I was hoping perhaps Damon would consider moving agents. But I haven’
t discussed it with him yet.” Jay kissed her cheek.

“He’
d be insane not to honey.” Now would be a good time to ask her to stay but as he was about to her phone rang. She answered it.

“Samantha, I really need you back here to sign those damn papers.” The look on her face changed to anger.

“Dan now is not a good time.” She looked over at Jay. His timing was lousy. She sensed Jay wanted to talk. She hung up. She got up and went over to him and touched his face with her hand.
