“Totally. We should get with Em and Sergei on it right away.”
“I was thinking we could save it… for the Olympic season.”
“Oh.” I shifted my eyes to the keyboard.
“I know we said we’d take it one year at a time, but I couldn’t help but think ahead. If you don’t want to keep skating until 2014, though, I understand. It’s a lot to deal with and—”
“No, it’s not that. I haven’t ruled anything out yet. I just… I don’t want to look that far ahead. I did that with Mark — focused too much on the Olympics — and I don’t want to get wrapped up in that again. I want to focus on living in the moment and enjoying every day of skating with you.”
He smiled and put his arm around me. “That sounds like a great plan.”
“This is why we make such an awesome team.” I patted his thigh.
“Except… I do still want to save the Muse song… for a season that shall remain nameless.”
I laughed and nodded. “I can agree to that.”
I let my mind wander to that nameless season for a minute. It couldn’t possibly be more difficult that what we had endured the past season. But then I remembered the pain and anguish I’d gone through twice trying to make the Olympic team, and my stomach twisted at the thought of experiencing that again.
Josh kissed my forehead as if he knew exactly what I needed at that moment. With him by my side, I had to believe things would be different because there was one thing I knew with absolute certainty — I was wholeheartedly his, and he was undeniably mine, and there was nothing stronger than the love between us.
