MAD
HOODHOUSE PARTY

After that last drink things seemed to move in slow motion as my body fell against the wall. I’m glad it was there because falling on the floor would’ve been embarrassing.

I saw people, lots of them even though things were blurred and I couldn’t make out their faces, I did see her face clearly. My girl, Glitter. I saw the way her body seemed to fill the jeans she was wearing as she shook her hips to Jay Z’s voice booming from the speakers. I noticed the way a little sweat formed right above her small breasts in the red shirt she was wearing. And I saw how she flirtatiously moved her long tiny braids to the left, and leaned into the dude she was talking to at the moment. Who was that nigga?

Every now and again her eyes would find mine, but I wanted them to stay on me all night. Why wasn’t she over here when we came together? My biggest fear was that she’d leave me and not want me no more. See my plan for us was simple, we would find a place of our own, and she would somehow have my kids, and make me a father. It’s the only thing I thought about every day and the only thing I constantly looked forward to.

He touched her shoulder and she looked at me again. In a way that begged me not to ‘start shit’ like she constantly said I did. I gripped the bottle in my hand tightly, so tightly that at first I thought I’d smash it under my fingertips. I reached what my friends called the “drunk zone” a long time ago. It’s funny; the Hennessy bottle had become an extension of me. An extension that for good, bad or worse, I needed almost every morning now.

“This party is like that!” Sugar said easing in front of me. Her arms in the air and her neck moving crazily from right to left. She was in the drunk zone too. Her ass grinded against my joint like she was making circles in the crouch of my jeans.

“You think it was cool to leave her in the house by herself?”

“I don’t give a fuck. I needed a night out.” I looked at Glitter again and wondered if she minded Sugar dancing with me.
“You the boss.” She yelled, trying to be heard over the music.
I took a swig of Henny from the bottle, pulled my black cap down and tried not to look into the red glasses Sugar always wore. Looking at her too much gave her the wrong impression. My lips were dry so I licked them and the hairs from her curly dirty ponytail stuck to my mouth. I wanted her away from me. She stunk. Like sweat and pussy and I wasn’t feeling it one bit.
“If that nigga don’t want it, I damn sure do!” Wokie said grabbing her waist and easing her in front of him. She gave me a disappointed look but didn’t stop dancing as she eased in front of him, besides, she offered that ass up and now it was for the taking.
“Mad, is so fucking pressed over Glitter!” she yelled over the music. “She acts like she the only one in the world.”
Wow. And her breath smelled like rotten fish too. “Why is that?” I said swigging again from my bottle.
“Because you never dance with me. You never dance with nobody but Glitter.”
She noticed a lot about me. More shit than I wanted her to notice. Anyway why was she angry? They called us Mad Max, because we were friends and we shared everything, including her pussy. Not me though. She ain’t my type of girl, but every member in my crew with the exception of me and Glitter fucked Sugar. I liked a girl who was wifey material and who wanted a family as bad as I did. Not a girl who gave it up because it was there. Sugar is my homie but for me that’s as far as it goes.
Now the party was starting to get crowded and my neck was getting too heavy. That’s how I’d always know I was officially in the drunk zone. Taking another swig when I looked across the room again, I saw the dude whispering in her ear. What the fuck? I told her to put a bra on because every time she rubbed up against something or somebody, her nipples got hard. I know this nigga wanna fuck her. All niggas wanna fuck my girl and it don’t matter that she only fourteen either.
I was just about to step to them both when Kid Lightning stopped me. He looked at the bottle in my hand, then at Glitter and back at me. He said, “Give me some, fam.”
He tried to take it out of my hands but I held on to it tightly. “Naw, it ain’t that much left.”
“Look like it’s enough for me.” He looked at the bottle and then back at Glitter across the room again. “I don’t want nothing but a sip.”
“And I said no.” I looked into his eyes so he knew I was serious.
I figured he thought I was drunk. I was off the Henny and he knew once I finished an entire bottle, there was nothing I wouldn’t do or nobody I couldn’t be.
The music was pumping loud as shit but my anger was boiling over. Fuck this nigga. I’m about to turn this bottle right side up and hit this mothafucka in the head. I pushed myself off the wall and moved in their direction.
“What you doing, Mad?” Kid said grabbing me by the arm. “It ain’t even like that? You know it’s…”
I couldn’t understand him. Shit was swirling around in my head.
“I don’t want no nigga touching her!”
“She a girl, Mad. Niggas gonna try and holla. You know that. She…”
“I should bust her shit open. Matta fact…”
I moved to talk to Glitter but Kid kept the grip on me until I gave him a slow stare from his Jordans to the top of his head. I was about to crash this bottle in his face and get his own blood all over the new Hugo Boss shirt he just stole yesterday when he decided to release me.
“Aight, man. You on your own.” He raised both of his hands and stepped off.
“Man, why niggas wanna fuck with my girl?” I said to myself.
“Cuz Glitter bad as shit.” Krazy K said out of nowhere. I didn’t even know he was near me.
The girls liked him because he had big ass feet and had a permanent scowl on his face. They figured the bigger the feet the bigger the dick but I couldn’t call it. Out of all of Mad Max they were afraid of Krazy the most. The funny part about it was, out of all of us, he was the nicest. “You knew that when you bagged her.”
I took another swig. “Where Wokie at?” I asked. Wokie was the most outspoken of my crew and I fucked with him tough. With Wokie what you saw was what you got and I trusted him with my life. “He was just dancing with Sugar.”
“Fucking some bitch.” He said. “But kill that bullshit wit’ Glitter. We having a good time tonight. I ain’t trying to start no beef if we ain’t got to.”
“Who the leader of this crew?” I asked Krazy. He didn’t say anything he just backed away from me. “Anyway I’m not about to sweat no bitch. If she wanna be over there let her stay.”
I looked back at Glitter and the dude and he looked like he was like twenty something. I could take him. I ain’t never fought one on one in my life but I could take him. I knew it.
“Man fuck this. I’m stepping to.” I said.
I felt hands on me pulling me back, I think it was my friends but I couldn’t be sure. Anyway it wasn’t working because in seconds I was in Glitter’s face.
“Hey, baby. What you doing?” Glitter’s eyes looked at me in a pleading way. And she held my hand. “This is my…”
“Why you dancing all on this nigga like that?” I looked deep into her big brown eyes. She can’t leave me. She gonna leave me. I know she gonna leave me. I’ma kill her first. I’ma kill the dude first. How ‘bout I kill both of ‘em. “Fuck wrong with you, disrespecting me like that, Glitter?”
“Baby,” she said softly. I was surprised I could hear her so clearly over the music. “What you doing? It ain’t like that. Please stop.”
“Fuck that shit!” I said grabbing her by the back of her hair. “You don’t fucking carry me like that and expect me not to say shit. You coming with me.”
I pulled her when he snatched her away from me and pushed me. Then I don’t know what happened but I was flat on my back.
“Bitch, I will break your fucking jaw!” He balled up both fists and looked down at me.
When he did that all I saw was that Mad Max had come out of all directions of the party. I stood up and smiled when I saw the power of my crew. Krazy knocked the nigga down with a right and Kid stomped him in the stomach repeatedly as he coughed up blood. Sugar found a beer bottle and cracked him on the head and when she was done she kicked him anywhere her feet would land. I got down and stole him several times in the face and Wokie eventually got some of the action too. Before we knew it a full fight erupted and we were hitting anybody who looked like they were trying to get in our way. This is how shit always ended up for us, in a fight. Sometimes we got hurt sometimes we didn’t but we always stuck together.
When the party went into “mob mode” we knew it was time to bail before the police got there and locked all of us up. We heard stories of Juvie and wasn’t trying to get caught up there.
“Let’s roll!” Wokie said grabbing me. He was laughing so hard he was holding his stomach with the other hand. “We set shit off so let’s leave ‘em to it.”
“Come on ya’ll!” I said snatching Glitter by her hand. At first she snatched away from me but I gripped it again and yoked her harder toward the door. If she played with me I would fuck her up out here. “Where’s Krazy?” I asked.
“I’m right here!” He said coming behind us.
When we made it outside we could see from the windows in the house that the fight was in full mode. I loved when shit kicked off because of me. I was sweating and my tennis shoes seemed tighter than ever on my feet.
Once I got outside the night air was cool and put me at peace. At ease. I never got a chance to go out and be with friends or anybody when I was living in Texas with Harmony. Life was all about her and it was like we were never in it. So when I got the chance to do what I wanted these days I took it. At night I loved that you could be whatever you wanted. I believe in the right places you could be God or the devil. It was your choice.
“Man, this was a nice ass neighborhood before ya’ll fucked it up!” Sugar said. “That’s why I hate going places with ya’ll.”
“Stop playing,” I said. “Bitch, you love us.” I pulled her toward me and put my arm around her neck as we continued to walk down the block.
“Move, boy!” I loved it when she called me that.
Boy
. It was funny though, she only told me to move when Glitter was around and that’s the only time I felt comfortable around her. “And give me some of that Henny.” I thought about how her breath stunk a little back at the party and poured it down her throat myself so her lips wouldn’t touch the bottle. She wiped the drops off of her face with the back of her hand and gave me that look again like she wanted to fuck me. Then she whispered, “Give me a chance. Fuck Glitter. I’ll obey anything you say.”
I took my arm from around her neck and put space in between us. As the days went by it was getting more obvious that friendship wasn’t enough for her.
“Nigga, you crazy as shit!” Wokie said to me patting me on my back. “Why you always starting fights and shit?”
“It ain’t me. And where was your ass anyway before everything happened, nigga?”
He put his fingers under my nose and I could smell a fishy odor and I hit his hand. “Fuck is that?” I frowned.
“Pussy! You just smelled some good ass pussy!”
I looked at Sugar and she said, “Don’t look at me.”
But it was her, I knew it. “Naw it was somebody else back there.” Wokie lied. “A bitch I told I would meet down there.”
“Yeah, whatever, nigga!” Kid said. “Your dick gonna fall off if you keep fucking with all of them hoes!”
We heard some screams back at the house. Apparently the fight had gotten wilder than ever and Krazy said, “Nigga, Glitter got you open?” He laughed. “Whoever own that house gonna be mad as shit when they come home and they got you to thank.”
We were all laughing and having a good time except Glitter.
I put my arm around Glitter and said, “If she stop fucking with my head shit like that wouldn’t happen.” Then I lifted the bottle to pour some down her throat. “You want some?”
She pushed my hand away. “Baby, you gotta stop doing this shit.” She was serious. “It wasn’t even like that.”
“So what, you mad?” I frowned.
“Yes! You playing yourself and me too!” She paused.
“I’m a dude, too, Glitter. I know how niggas think and I’m not gonna let them take you from me.”
“You not a fucking dude!” She screamed. “Why do you keep saying that shit?”
I could feel my hair tighten and I pulled my cap down. When I looked at my friends they seemed to look elsewhere but Glitter’s eyes remained on me. The embarrassment I felt by her lies was overwhelming.
I swigged from my bottle. “I don’t like people touching you. I told you that.”
“But you were wrong, tonight, Mad. You gotta stop drinking like that or I’m not gonna fuck with you no more. I’m serious. If you wanna lose me then that shit back there…” she pointed, “Yeah that’s the way to do it.”
“Glitter, don’t talk to me like you crazy.” I said.
“When you get drunk or high you act stupid. That’s why my moms don’t like me fucking with you.”
Knowing her family didn’t like me made me feel sick because she was close to her moms. “You act like you ain’t the one who be bringing us the smoke and liquor. You just as guilty as me.”
“But you go too far, Mad. You gotta push back sometimes.” She paused, kicked a stone off the sidewalk and it flew into the street. “It’s alright to get buzzed but not to where we gotta fight all the time.”
“Whatever, bitch, you know niggas stay trying to fuck you.” Sugar interrupted. “Mad be tired of that shit. I mean, show some respect.”
“Sugar, shut the fuck up!” Glitter said. “You always jumping on Mad’s side.”
“Did you see when I banked the nigga?!” Krazy said jumping in front of me and Glitter as he walked backwards. “His eyes were all wide and shit.” He imitated the look of the nigga we put on the ground. “He looked like he was about to shit on himself when he saw all of us.” He laughed.
We all laughed. I fucked with my friends, tough. With them I felt like I could do anything. The only thing missing in my life right now was my sister and the love of a mother and father. I was starting to believe that the way my life was going, it wasn’t in the cards for me. That’s why I held on to Glitter so much, if she left me, if she stopped fucking with me, I would wanna die.
“How we gonna get home?” Wokie asked. “’Cause I’m tired as shit.”
“Stop playing,” Kid said. “You know how we do.”
“Well there’s too many of us this time. We gonna have to catch two separate cabs.” Sugar said. “And I’m in the cab with Mad because ya’ll be faking when its time to dip.” She laughed. “Mad, the last time we was about to jump out the cab and run why these niggas get scared and pay?”
“Stop lying, bitch!” Kid said. “I was ready to run but Wokie said his mother worked around there somewhere and he ain’t wanna get in trouble.”
“Nigga, I’m not trying to hear all that. Ya’ll too scary.” Sugar continued. “Like I said, I’m rolling with Mad and Glitter.”
“You wanted to roll with Mad and Glitter anyway.” Wokie said. “But I’m coming with ya’ll too.”
“Aight, but let me rap to my girl right quick before we flag the cabs down. Ya’ll walk ahead of us.”
When they went ahead, I looked at Glitter. She was so fucking pretty. She had the biggest brown eyes I’d ever seen in my life and her skin was the color of milk chocolate.
I didn’t know how to fuck before I got with Glitter. I mean, my mother tried to teach me how to suck a dick with a carrot that one time but I wasn’t having none of that shit. Just the thought of a man touching me, anywhere and in any way made my skin crawl. I would rather kill myself then to even go there.
Before Glitter, I didn’t even know what pussy tasted like. Now that I had her, we fucked in every way imaginable. Even stole one of them dildoes we saw in a store one time so I could fuck her with it every now and again with my hand. She liked for me to eat her pussy while I fucked her with it. Truthfully I ain’t like to do it, thinking if she wanted the rubber dick, what was stopping her from getting the real thing? Yeah, the dildo was Glitter’s thing not mine and she never even put her hands or mouth on my joint because I would die if she touched me there. I can’t explain it but I would die. I got mine off by rubbing on top of her and she could never understand how I always came. I couldn’t understand either.
“You not gonna leave me are you?” I asked her. “’Cause I can’t lose you, Glitter.”
“Babes, why you always thinking somebody gonna leave you?” She asked looking at me. “You ask me five times a day seven days a week and each time I say the same thing. No.” Then she paused. “But, if you don’t stop the crazy shit I will.”
