As you review this chapter, pay particular attention to the section about sacrificial giving. Ask the members to share which areas spoke to them the loudest. Encourage the women to share ways they are working to communicate better with their spouses.

Assign reading and questions for next week, and close with prayer.

Key #7: Pick and Choose Your Battles

Begin the session with prayer. Ask the group members about their week.

During this session, discuss the words that create flash points of conflict in an unequally yoked marriage. Discuss what
it means to “fight fair.” Focus on the Scripture verses in this chapter. They are powerful and can transform a marriage.

Celebrate the changes you notice within the group. Perhaps schedule a lunch or a girls outing together this week.

Assign reading and questions for next week, and close with prayer.

Key #8: Move from Hurt to Healing—Seasons of Marriage

Begin the session with prayer. Ask the group members about their week.

Set the stage by bringing in some seasonal decorations for spring, summer, fall and/or winter. Start the session with a discussion of the seasons of marriage.

Review the questions and guide the group to discover areas of entitlements or expectation they need to release. Focus on the process of forgiveness and perhaps share how you have worked through an area of forgiveness within your own marriage.

This is also a session where the participants are encouraged to share moments or encounters in their marriage where God was present and active. Celebrate those moments.

Assign reading and questions for next week, and close with prayer.

Key #9: Keep Your Armor On—You’re at War!

Begin the session with prayer. Ask the group members if they recognized any attacks from the enemy during the last week.

During this session, ask the members if they are becoming more intentional about “wearing their armor.” Are they praying more for their husbands, for their family and for themselves against the enemy’s attempts to discourage and bring turmoil?

Ask the women if they are building their prayer team and being intentional about asking for prayer when they need it. Also ask them if they are seeing a difference in their daily perseverance
since they have started a daily quiet time to meet with God.

Assign reading and questions for next week, and close with prayer.

Key #10: Learn When to Pray the Most Dangerous Prayer

Begin the session with prayer. Ask the group members about their week and how they are trusting God more. Also ask them how their prayer team is developing.

During this session, ask the members how their perspective toward their marriage and their husbands is changing. Are they starting to understand the role God is calling them to play in their husbands’ lives?

Ask the women if they would be interested in meeting once a month for encouragement and prayer.

Wrap up your study and encourage each woman to trust in Jesus and cling to the promise of 1 Peter 3:1. Remind them that they
can
win their husbands without words. Close with prayer.

Igniting the Soul

Dineen Miller

Author • Speaker

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose
.

R
OMANS
8:28 (NIV)

Dineen readily admits that one of the greatest lessons she’s learning about life is that there’s purpose in our trials. And it’s all about trusting God and putting our hope in Him. Her favorite stories will always be of the miracles God has wrought in the lives of her family.

Through this lens she also believes her years as a youth counselor, a Stephen Minister, a women’s ministry leader, and a small group leader have prepared her for God’s calling on her life—to write for and speak to those in mismatched marriages like hers.

In addition to writing for Spiritually Unequal Marriage, Dineen writes for Laced with Grace and various other fiction online magazines and newsletters. She’s also won several prestigious awards for her fiction, and her devotional writing has been featured in
Our Journey
and
Christian Women Online Magazine
.

Married for 23 years to a guy who keeps her young, she lives in the Bay Area with her husband, two precious daughters, and their dog Shasta, who no doubt is an angel in disguise.
