Win sat there looking at the doctor,
trying to keep up with what the man was saying. “I’m sorry, but
what’s her condition?” he asked, thinking something worse was
happening.

Oh, I’m sorry, I thought
you knew. She’s five weeks along in her pregnancy, and with all the
stress that she just went through, we thought it best to let her
body relax from its ordeal, before a possible surgery on her ankle.
We informed Mrs. Richardson of her condition, and she agreed with
our opinion.”

South looked over at Win, stunned by
what was just said. “Holy shit, you’re going to be a father!” he
shouted out loud. Win looked down the hallway to where Dax and
Nickels had gone, and he knew they knew all about the
baby.

He was going to marry Addison Reade and
have a family with her. He sat back and his hand went through his
hair, then he chuckled. “I should have known my angel would be a
fertile woman,” he said to South, patting him on the
back.

The doctor cleared his throat. “So if
you’re ready to go see her...”

Yeah, I am, doc,” Win
smiled.

Chapter 17

Addison woke up to the sounds of
medical instruments all around her. She turned her head, looking
around, and a nurse saw she’d woken up and went to go retrieve the
doctor. The doctor came in a moment later, explaining to her that
she’d broken her ankle, and informed her about her
pregnancy.

She smiled, think of carrying Winston’s
baby, about them becoming a family, a real family with Christmases,
Thanksgiving…Halloween. Then her smiled faltered as she remembered
why she was in the hospital in the first place. Her hands went to
her belly and she thought of the new little life that was in there,
and the fear, if Jimmy ever found out about it.

She heard the door open and her head
turned quickly as she saw Dax come walking in. “Hey, chipmunk,” he
said softly. But she couldn’t smile at him. She couldn’t go home to
Jimmy…she just couldn’t!

Look, Dax, I can’t go back
to him. Can’t you see that? He’s not the same…” she told him as
tears came trickling down her battered face.

He pulled up a chair and sat next to
her. “I know, Addie, I know that now. Hell, we all know it now!” He
took her hand in his. “I can see you’ve been hiding quite a bit
from us. I knew he’d smack you, and I’m sorry I didn’t stop him.
But none of us knew how damn bad it had gotten.”

He shook his head angrily. “I’m so
sorry, chipmunk, for not stopping him from hurting you,
physically…as well as mentally. I was just as guilty for letting
him cheat on you… I’m sorry,” he whispered, looking down at her
hand in his.

She sighed at that. “You didn’t make
him cheat on me, Dax, he made up his own mind when it came to who
he wanted to be with. I wasn’t what he really wanted, I see that
now, and I’m fine with it. I fell in love with someone who says I’m
all he needs, and I love him, Dax, I really, really, love him!” she
confessed softly.

He nodded to her but didn’t meet her
eyes. He looked up and was about to say something, then stopped. He
let go of her hand, but kept looking at her. “I’m going to make
Jimmy give you the divorce that you’ve been asking for, sweetheart.
Then you can marry that guy who knocked you up.”

Her hands went to her
still-flat stomach. “You know?” She looked at him, shaking her
head. “Please don’t tell Jimmy.
Please,
Dax,” she said with a quiver
in her voice.

No, Addie, none of us
will, sweetheart.” He bent over, running his hand through his hair.
“I’m sorry. But you know I love you and Tia like my own little
sisters. And I love Jimmy like my little brother, and it breaks my
heart that this is happening to our family. But you need to be
safe, and now you will be.” He leaned down and kissed her
forehead.

Reaching down, he took her face gently
in his hands. “Keep in touch with me, okay. I won’t tell Jimmy
anything, but don’t keep me and Jones in the dark. I swear I’ll
like this new guy of yours,” he whispered to her.

She laughed softly at him, and his
joke. “Okay, Dax. You and Jones can be part of our lives…I
promise,” she told him quietly before he started to walk away.
“Hey! One more thing,” she called, and he came walking
back.

And what would that be?”
He smiled at her.

Thank you, Dax. And, I
love you, big brother,” she told him as she wiped away a
tear.

Ah, hell. Don’t make me
get all girly, Addison,” he growled, then winked at her. “Love you
too, chipmunk.”

Twenty minutes later Win came into the
room, looking shaken and worried, but as soon as she saw him open
the door and walk to her, she smiled at him. “Hi, playboy,” she
exclaimed happily. He looked her over and he didn’t smile back, and
her smile faded. “Are you mad at me?” she whispered, and he could
see he had upset her.

No, angel. You’re just so
hurt…” he said, catching himself before he broke down.

She reached out her hand, but he just
stood there looking at her. “I’m okay, really. But I have some good
news. Dax came in and said he was going to have Jimmy give me the
divorce. So I guess I can go to Nashville with you a free woman,”
she exclaimed, reaching out again for his hand.

No, angel,” he said, and
her hand fell to the bed, and her lip trembled at the thought of
him leaving her. He quickly made his way over, sitting on the bed
and taking her hand. “You’re going to Tennessee with me as Mrs.
Molloye,” he clarified, kissing her lips carefully.

Dax came and talked to me
too. Telling me I better hurry up and marry you, but he didn’t have
to tell me to do that. I knew the first moment I saw you step out
of the purple monstrosity you were the only woman for me. Addison
Reade, you are my angel, my life, and you’re going to be the mother
of my child. I guess what I’m saying baby, is, I love you, Addison,
will you please do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

I guess since I’m having
your baby, I should say yes to that beautiful proposal,” she
chuckled at him. His hand went to her stomach lovingly. “I guess I
made good on that promise. Now we just need to get a
puppy.”

She took his face in her hands, looking
into his blue eyes. “You’ve made all of my dreams come true,
Winston Molloye. The first night in our new bed… I plan on making
all of yours come true as well.” She grinned a cocky little grin at
him.

His eyes looked down on her intensely.
“Fuck, angel, if you talk like that I’m going to have to take you
in this damn bed!” he whispered to her, and she laughed, kissing
his lips.

The End

Epilogue

Three years later, Halloween
night…

Win sat on the ground, putting his
three-year-old son, J.W., in the lion’s costume Addison had made
him for Halloween. She came in chuckling as she saw him and Win
sitting on the floor. She sat down next to them with a black
eyeliner pencil in her hand.

I’ve got to tell you, you
are the hottest lion tamer I’ve ever seen!” she told her husband,
while drawing a black cat nose on her son.

Win started to tickle her as soon as
she finished with their son. Then J.W. came over and helped Daddy
tickle Mommy. “And why couldn’t we go as something cool this year,
like fifties greasers or something?” he asked, still tickling
her.

Addison was rolling on the floor trying
to get away from Winston, as tears of laughter rolled down her
face. “I wanted to make J.W. a lion this year,” she laughed. “I
promise next year you can be a greaser,” she said between gasps of
breath; then he released her. She lay on the floor looking up at
him, and little J.W. lay next to her. “Don’t worry, lion tamer, you
might have to use your whip to tame a kitty tonight.” She chuckled
at Win’s growl of excitement.

He came down, kissing her lips, and
J.W. kissed her cheek. Win picked J.W. up in his arms, smiling back
at her. “Okay, I’m really liking the lion tamer costume right about
now!”

She got up, giving J.W. a kiss. “You be
a good boy for Daddy, and bring your momma home some chocolate,”
she told her son, and he nodded. “You just going around the
block?”

Win came over with J.W. in one arm and
took her in the other. “Yeah, we’ll go around the block once, and
then this lion tamer is going to need some sweet lovin’ tonight,”
his voice rumbled down to her.

She smiled up at him and the hooded
look already in his eyes. “I can’t wait, playboy,” she purred,
kissing him. “I love you,” she declared fervently.

Win couldn’t help but kiss her one more
time. “I love you, angel, always!”
