For Andy Whitfield and Mark Townsend, for teaching me to Be Here Now.

Chapter 1

“So come on then, tell me what the hell happened?” Charlie asks as she walks through my office door, she is very tall, thin and beautiful; she swishes her long, blonde, wavy hair over her shoulders. She is one of those effortless beauties, the total opposite of me. I’m average height, I have curves, I’m pretty not beautiful and I have long, straight black hair, I work hard with what I have. I follow her across the room as she plonks her ass down on the edge of my desk; she’s been out of the country for a week on a business trip and has missed a whole lot of drama.

“Well… everything was going fine, you know we had been getting on really well. I was even beginning to think maybe he was the one. Adam picked me up for work and he was just as nice, thoughtful and sexy as always. Then at ten his PA, Conrad appears bringing me a coffee from him, as I was drinking it I thought I would quickly check Facebook since I had time… You remember my friend Jenni from school, don’t you? Well she attended the same convention as Adam did last weekend. Anyway she had uploaded some pictures, as I scrolled through them I noticed Adam in the background with a girl, the first one was ok, they were just standing there but then it started to progress into something more”

“Ok, well let’s be honest you knew he was a bit of a slag” she laughs

“I did, thank you for that reminder, so I thought I would confront him about it when he came over to go out for dinner that night”

“And what happened?”

“Well I logged into Facebook and showed him the photos”

“Showed him? I would have shoved my phone down his throat” I smile up at her as I watch her hands explain what her words are saying

“It all went tits up from there, of course he claimed he couldn’t remember it or her therefore I got no explanation”

“Yeah of course he did, and?”

“We argued I threw him out of my apartment. I was so angry if he didn’t remember her, what really happened? Did it carry on… did they, you know?”

“So have you spoken to him since?”

“No I’m so glad I kept my apartment and hadn’t moved completely in with him. He tries to call me at least five times a day”

“But what about moving in and all the plans you had?”

“I told him to forget it and that I didn’t want anything to do with him”

“Fuck Boo is that true?”

She knows how I feel about him and that I thought the sexy bastard was the one. “My head says yes but my heart and body still quivers every time I see, hear or even think about him” like now, I can see that short dark hair, I know exactly how it feels to run my fingers through it, his stunning blue eyes, his not so perfect nose which he tells me happened in a fight years ago when he was younger. Those full lips, his short beard and when he’s concentrating he does that thing with his back teeth that makes his cheek muscles clench, oh and when he smiles that one dimple appears… shit my heart is fluttering and I haven’t even thought about his body yet.

“Olivia” she almost shouts, breaking my thoughts “I understand, he’s a sexy fucker”

“I know but I just can’t get those bloody photos out of my head, I can’t be with him when all I see is him and that girl and not knowing what happened”

“I get that, so what happens now? What are you going to do?”

“I have no idea but now you are back we must have a girl’s night out”

“Sure when?”

“Tomorrow night?”

“Ok I will meet you at Shaw’s, I will invite the others”

“Great, 8pm?”

“Yeah” she shouts over her shoulder as she walks out my office, then I see her stop and her shoulders raise, I start to get out of my chair to see what’s wrong as Adam approaches her, he nods his head to her and keeps on walking, he’s not really that keen on Charlie, he know she refers to him as a slag, oh dear Lord he has my favourite suit on, it’s not fair nobody should look that good in a suit, I wonder if he has worn it on purpose, to get my attention, if so it worked, I sit a bit taller in my chair as he walks towards me, my eyes take him in as he approaches, I can clearly see the outline of his muscly body beneath his clothes and that long manly stride, his hand runs over his hair as he reaches my desk.

“Liv”

Shit that deep raspy voice “Adam” I answer, I’m sure it sounded sexier than I wanted it too

“We need to talk”

“I have said everything I need to say thank you, whereas you have said nothing, you have the secrets”

“Fuck Liv, really”

I look around to make sure the other staff can’t hear or aren’t looking “Adam I’m at work and I don’t want to discuss this in front of everybody”

“Look I’ve given you a bit of time, we need to work this out” he leans down, placing both hands on my desk so his eyes are nearly level with mine

“WE need to work it out, you’re having a laugh, I have asked you to explain to me what you were doing, you have refused, anyway what about your friend. I think you are forgetting Adam I’ve left you, we are over, I have nothing further to say” I get up from my desk and walk towards the door, I hold the door and wait for him to leave. He does a sigh and walks towards me, he bends slightly so we are face to face, millimetres apart

“This is not over Liv” he says in his deep sexy voice

I pull my face away, it’s hard although I’m acting strong if he had kissed me then I would have kissed him back, he seems to have a hold on me that no matter what I can’t shake “Just leave me alone Adam” I turn and walk back to my desk, I sit down in my chair and wiggle my mouse to wake my computer up, I can feel him staring at me, luckily my phone rings “Could you shut the door on your way out?” I say without looking at him then I answer the phone

“Good afternoon, Olivia Carrington speaking” I look up and watch as he walks out the door, my eyes watch his ass and his back as he storms down the corridor

I vaguely here the person on the phone wanting a new head of department, I tell him we can help but I need to put him through to Hannah who will take all the details, all the time I’m listening and talking to him I am thinking about Adam, I transfer the call and lean back in my chair, shit what am I going to do.

After about half an hour thinking of Adam in every way I can, I move from my desk and check on the office. I have five staff working under me. Clive and I set up a recruitment company just over two years ago, after working for another company, we decided to go it alone, although Clive now runs another business he set up so we don’t see him very often. We moved the company to the same building as Adam six months later, we are based on the ground floor, Adam runs his software company from the top floor, it’s his company, any more than that I don’t know what it is he does, it all goes over my head.

The rest of the day goes by without anything much happening, at six o’clock I clear up and lock the office and make my way to the car park, noticing that Adam’s car is still in his spot, some days he rides his push bike and arrives in his shorts and vest all sweaty… I like those days the best.

Chapter 2

I arrive home and decide on a liquid dinner, I’ve really lost my appetite. I shower, grab a bottle of wine from the fridge, a glass and plonk my ass on the sofa. I switch the TV on and try to find something to watch I settle on a film I’ve watched a hundred times before, slowly my mind slips back to my first encounter with Adam.

We had just moved into the new offices when I looked up from sorting through boxes to see the most incredible looking man ever, he introduced himself as I quickly tried to make myself look better, I had no make-up on hadn’t even put my eyebrows on, my hair was tied up in a bun and I had my old jeans and a scabby t shirt on and I knew my cheeks were starting to go red. I walked across the office to him as he held out his hand

“Hi I’m Adam Parker I work on the top floor”

I took his large manly hand with my little delicate one and almost shivered as he wrapped his fingers around mine

“Olivia” I manage to get out

“Nice to meet you Liv”

Nobody has ever had the nerve to call me Liv before, my parents had always insisted everybody would use my full name but the way he said Liv, shit that had me dreaming about him saying that whilst doing things to me for several nights after.

“You too Adam”

“Just thought I would stop by and introduce myself”

I slowly nodded my head whilst he still held my hand, I must have looked like a rabbit caught in headlights, I just could not drag my eyes from his gorgeousness, as he slowly released my hand it seemed to wake me a little as my eyes dragged down over his amazing body, he was a big man, hmmm is what I thought, I remember moistening my lips with my tongue and as I looked back to his eyes he had watched me do it, a grin came across his face, enough I told myself

“I better get on; we are hoping to open in two days”

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to hold you up”

Oh the thought of him holding me up against my office wall, the door, oh the possibilities my face must have blanked out because he did a little cough thing. I quickly looked back to his eyes

“I will see you around then Liv”

“Yes, you will”

I watched as he turned and walked out of my office, my eyes firmly on his tight well-formed ass. After standing there for five minutes I shook my head and carried on unpacking boxes

“Jesus Olivia did you see that?” Hannah my assistant, loud mouth and friend comes racing through the door, making me jump

“Yes I saw” I say, holding my hand to chest, I can feel my heart pounding from where she scared me

“Well did you get his number?” I shake my head “Fucking hell Olivia what’s wrong with you?”

“Hannah not everybody is going to fancy me” I blurt out

“Olivia, come on if I didn’t have a boyfriend I would have been all over him like a rash”

“Thank you for that Hannah”

“You know what I mean, how long is it since you had a man?”

“There is no need it rub it in” I say thinking back; you really couldn’t call Kye a man.

“You know damn well what I mean, how long since you have fancied a man?”

“Eighteen months – two years, I don’t know”

“I can’t believe you let him walk out of here”

“What was I supposed to do tie him to the desk?” as soon as it leaves my mouth I know it was the wrong thing to say

“Yes, that’s what I would have done, and then I would have taken advantage of him being tied to the desk”

“Ok enough”

“I was just getting started”

“I know that’s why I stopped you” I say with a grin, she has a very dirty mind

She stands looking at me before shaking her head and walking out of my office. I turn and look at my desk imagining Adam tied to it, wow what a thought.

I refill my glass and decide to check my messages, since changing my status to single I have had a lot of offers, none that I would want to take up though. I pull Adam’s page up and flick through he hasn’t wrote anything since we split and his status is still in a relationship, I look at his photos, they are mostly of him doing adrenalin sports there are a few of us together. I study those the most, I slowly wipe the tears from my cheek, I throw my phone onto the table and make my way to bed. Once in bed I think back again.

It was three days later when Adam stopped by my office again, this time he didn’t wear the suit jacket, just his shirt and tie, he was telling me something about the building but all I could think was I would love to grab his tie and pull his mouth to mine. After that day he started calling in everyday, after about a week he eventually asked me to dinner which of course I accepted. Unfortunately he was the perfect gentleman and dropped me home afterwards, this happened on three occasions before I finally agreed to go out only if he came back to mine for a drink. The meal was nice and his company was as always really good but when we got back to my place, I made us a drink and as I turned to hand him his, he took both drinks from me and placed them slowly on the counter, turning back to me, his hand came up to my throat and slowly moves to my nape, with a little bit of pressure pulling me forward our lips met, I don’t think I will ever forget that first kiss with him, I needed him badly. The kiss got more frantic and his hands moved down my back and over my ass to the hem of my dress, in one quick movement I was stood before him in just my underwear. I slowly reached forward to the buttons on his shirt, I undid them with shaky hands, slowly revealing the masterpiece underneath, once the buttons were undone he slipped his shirt off, fucking hell I think I could orgasm just looking at him, he has muscles not too big and a six pack and the hot V or the loins of Apollo, wow I had never seen that before in real life, I understood now what everyone was talking about, I dragged my nails down over his chest feeling the ridges of his muscles and lower until I reached the waistband of his jeans, I slowly undid the buttons and gave a little push at the side and they slipped down, ok so he doesn’t wear boxers, I was drooling before I knew what the hot V was pointing at, his cock was rock hard and nearly touching his belly, I slowly glide my hands back up his body just has his phone starts ringing, I stop my hands and look to the floor, his phone must be in his jeans, “shit” I quickly glance back to his face, oh my God he is going to answer it, “Sorry I need to get that” I slowly stepped back and watched as he pulled his jeans back up and got his phone from his pocket “Yes” is how he answered it “Fucking Hell I’m on my way” he ended the call and returned his phone to his pocket “I’m sorry Liv I have to go but seeing you like that will have me hard for days”. I quickly retrieved my dress from the floor and use it to cover my body “I will see you tomorrow” he leaned in to kiss me but I turned my head so his lips brushed my cheek, I watched as he grabbed his shirt and quickly put it on and with that he was out the door, gone. I was so angry it took several days to calm down.

Now when I think about it no wonder I was livid that he could walk out and leave me like that, it still makes me angry now. I slowly fall to sleep trying not to think about Adam and replacing him with thoughts of my night out with the girls.
