Also try stroking some areas. Apply a little lubricant to your finger and place it on an area containing erectile tissue, such as your lips or nipples— or on any other area that you choose. First, do a single touch with lubricant. Then try different types of strokes. Try different pressures and different move- ments; again, this is a time to experiment.
Once you have created a connection between your clitoris or penis and different body parts, as described further below, to turn yourself on you can simply touch these sensitive areas. This will coincide with your ability to ex- perience instant orgasm. We have done these exercises hundreds of times
ourselves, and each time we may focus on a different area of the body or a different aspect of the experience. So do not think that you are just doing the same thing over and over; be creative and experiment.

Y Masturbation and Connections Z
If you have been doing these exercises in the proper order, your body will probably be very tumesced, or excited, at this point. This is what you want. In this next exercise we want you to make your genitals, specifically your clitoris or penis, the focal point. By this, we mean we want you to spend time touch-
ing the area
around
the focal point to arouse yourself through anticipation.
We want you to tease yourself. You can use either touches or strokes here, whatever feels best. A light, quick stroke will usually increase your arousal. Approach the focal area and then withdraw, continuing to do so for as long as you like.
When you are ready to put your full attention on your clitoris or penis, apply some lubricant to the area in any way that feels good. You can apply it slowly, working your way toward the focal point, or quickly, so that the lubri- cation process does not become your primary concern. Again, we believe it is a good idea to experiment with various touches, strokes, and pressures; that is, each time you practice this exercise, do it somewhat differently.

For Women
Continue to tease yourself around your genitals, avoiding directly touching your clitoris for as long as you like. Eventually you will want to lubricate your inner lips, introitus, and perineum, and then finally move on to your clitoris. You can take your time, lingering over any area that feels especially wonder- ful, or you can quickly spread lubricant over the entire area. When you are ready to touch your clitoris, put a small dab of lubricant on your fingertip and pull back your hood to expose the head. Spread the lubricant over the entire head of your clitoris.
Chapter 5 details many ways to retract the clitoral hood and spread lubri- cant. For this exercise, however, we want you to touch your clitoris using only one type of stroke. Try a short stroke, focusing on the most sensitive part of
your clitoris, wherever this is for you. To discover which part of your clito- ris is the most sensitive, start by stroking all the different quadrants, one at a time. You can also try a longer stroke, moving from bottom to top on the left side, and then switch your strokes to the right side. The object is to experience as much feeling as you can and also to notice which areas feel best and which kinds of strokes you prefer—light or firm, fast or slow.
Continue, one stroke at a time, for as long as you enjoy it. At some point, start stroking yourself without pausing between strokes. This should get you going a little more intensely. You can always stop when you want to peak— that is, when you want to allow your level of arousal to decrease a little so you can take things higher with the next stroke or series of strokes (described in more detail in Chapter 7). But try to be aware of how many strokes you can feel without losing focus either mentally or physically. Do this for as long as you like, from a few seconds to many minutes. The longer you practice this part of the exercise, the more often you can take breaks and peak yourself.

adding Connections
When your clitoris is feeling really good, we want you to add a secondary area to the equation. This can be any other part of your body; however, we recom- mend using an area that has erectile tissue, such as your lips (either facial or vaginal), your anus, or your nipple. Apply a little lubricant to the particular area. Hopefully, your clitoris will be engorged enough by now so that it bulges freely away from the body and you no longer have to pull the hood back.
Simultaneously stroke both your clitoris and the secondary area with the same kind of stroke. You may want to start by using a single stroke, simulta- neously stroking both areas one time, then stopping for a few moments, then repeating. Do this a number of times. Then just stroke your clitoris for one stroke while removing your hand from the secondary area. For the next few repetitions, again stroke the areas at the same time. Next, stroke your second- ary spot while leaving your hand off your clitoris. Then once again stroke them both. We are trying to build a connection between your clitoris and the sec-
ondary area. Be patient. Notice if you feel any sensation in the area that is
not
being touched.
After doing the single-stroke technique, try some continuous strokes, stroking both areas in-sync. Repeat the above instructions, alternately remov- ing your hand from the secondary area and then the clitoris, but this time use continuous strokes rather than single strokes. When your hand is removed from either body part, continue the stroking motion in the air, slightly above the body.
Again, the more you practice this exercise, the more you will build a con- nection between your clitoris and other parts of your body. This is helpful to women who are not easily orgasmic during intercourse, as they learn to con- nect their labia minora and introitus to their clitoris in such a way that that when the penis is inserted they can feel more sensation and possibly reach or- gasm. It is also fun to connect the lips of your mouth with your clitoris so that kissing will become that much more sensational. The lips-to-genital connec- tion works for men as well as women, of course.

For men
When touching yourself, you can use a video, a magazine, or a mental fan- tasy. Play with and almost tease your body by stroking nongenital erotic areas, such as your nipples or lips or stomach or thighs—whatever feels good. We recommend lightly stroking your inner thighs, getting close to your genitals, and then backing away. You can play with one stroke at a time, even on your thighs, and then add some continuous stroking.
We also suggest moving your lower abdomen, which is physically con- nected to your pubic area, up and down by pressing your hand into your body with as much pressure as feels good to you (see Figure 5 on page 37). You can alternatively use just your fingers to press into the lower abdomen and pubic area in order to find the spot and pressure that feel the best. You can use all of your fingers on one spot or find a couple of areas close to each other and press with one or two fingers at a time on one spot before releasing the pressure and pressing with two other fingers on the second spot. You might also enjoy us- ing two hands—one on either side of your upper pubic or lower abdominal area—by pressing with both hands at the same time or by alternating between pressing and releasing. You can have fun experimenting here to find what
works best for you. Note that both men and women find the lower abdominal area to be pleasurable to the touch.
Approve of all the sensations you experience, and only continue for as long as the feelings keep getting better. You may lightly brush your pubic hair with the back or front or side of your hand, or you may gently stroke your scrotal area from bottom to top. You can play with different areas around your geni- tals, such as your perineum, anus, and scrotum. You can use single strokes or apply different pressures—whatever feels best. By now your penis is probably erect and you are hopefully feeling much pleasure down there. Again, remem- ber that the penis does not have to be erect to do these exercises, or even to feel pleasure.

applying Lubricant
Put some lubricant on one finger and apply it to the part of your penis that most desires to be touched. The location and size of the area is up to you. You can do this very nimbly and gently; usually, the more trained a man becomes, the more he can enjoy a light touch. You want to feel as much as you can with every touch, including the application of the lubricant. This is another oppor- tunity to practice the single touch, only this time using some lubricant, which can make it ever so much more pleasurable. You can then apply more lubri- cant to another part of your penis. You may feel tingles and actual contrac- tions as you do this. You might already be close to orgasm merely as a result of applying the lubricant. Continue applying lubricant in small amounts until your entire penis is covered and well lubricated. I like to save the frenulum or apex (see Figure 6) for last, as it is the most sensitive part of the penis and thus serves as the focal point. A single, final touch on this exquisite area with some lubricant may bring you to a high level of arousal.
What we just described is one way to apply lubricant that is very luxuri- ous and deliberate. You can also place a bigger batch of lubricant all over your fingers and apply it from the base of the penis to the tip in one stroke, using the hand as a kind of tube. Or you can apply the lubricant starting on a differ- ent side of your penis each time. One time you can start on the posterior side and work your way to the sensitive underneath area, or anterior side; another time you can put it on your most sensitive area first and then spread it around.

Whether you do it slowly, using a little lubricant at a time, or quickly, with a lot of lubricant, depends on how you feel at the moment. I usually prefer to start lubricating the least sensitive areas first and work my way slowly to the most sensitive ones.
There are many ways to apply lubricant, and you can ask your partner to be creative in this sensual act as well as being innovative yourself. You can al- ways think up new ways to apply lubricant. It is all about pleasure, and as long as you are enjoying the process you will be enhancing your pleasure. Some- times I don’t feel that interested in self-pleasure, but as soon as I start touch- ing myself with some lubricant my interest greatly increases. I know I will be in “pleasure mode” as soon as the first bit of lubricant reaches my penis. How- ever, as soon as you catch your thoughts slipping into the future while you’re doing anything, even lubricating, take a little break.

single-touch and single-stroke masturbation
Once you have lubricated your entire penis you can start masturbating, first using one touch at a time and then using one stroke at a time. Check out dif- ferent touches and strokes. Just touch yourself—aiming for as much pleasure and sensation as you can muster—and then remove your hand. Touch and stroke different parts of your penis to see where it feels best. As we have said, most men are most sensitive right below the corona, on the underside of the
penis, so give yourself some single strokes there. One at a time, try some short strokes and some longer strokes, discovering how much you can feel with each kind. Play with different pressures, different speeds, and different types of strokes. Anything that you can come up with is okay as long as it feels good. Remember, give yourself only one stroke at a time for now.

starting to Connect
Now touch the most sensitive area of your penis with one hand while you si- multaneously touch a secondary area with your other hand. It may be best to choose a secondary area that contains erectile tissue, such as lips, nipples, or anus. Put some lubricant on the secondary area, too, especially when you start stroking it. Do only a single stroke or touch, and then stop. Use the same kind of touch or stroke on both areas.
