Brendan

   “Look at the view of the water, gawgeous.”

     “It’s beautiful. I can’t wait to go swimming.”

     “What’s the matter? You look like something is bothering you.”

     “I have to tell you something. I made a decision without discussing it with you.”

     “What are you talking about? Why would you do that? What’s wrong?”

     “Let’s sit.” She has me very nervous. I’m not sure what’s going on, but she doesn’t look happy.

     “Just tell me sweetie. I love you. It can’t be that bahd.”

     “I quit my job.”

     “What? You love your job.”

     “I had to do it. I just felt useless. I can’t tell good cops from bad cops. I let you down.”

     “Are you kidding me? I’m proud of you. You’re very brave. You can go back when we return from our honeymoon.”

    “No babe, I can’t. I already told Watson.”

     “He will take you back in a heartbeat.”

     “I know. There’s something else.”

     “What is it?”

     “I’m pregnant. I thought it was best to quit. It’s too dangerous obviously.”

     “Wait, what? You’re pregnant. When did you find out?”

     “Last week. I didn’t want to ruin the wedding, so I just kept it to myself.”

     “Sweetie, this is the best news. I’m so happy.”

     “Are you sure? I was nervous to tell you. I didn’t think you wanted kids yet.”

     “Of course I do. I love you and this baby is a part of us. We are going to be one big happy family making our own memories.”

     “Aww Brendan, I love you.” I wrap my arms around his neck.

     “Can we still have sex?”

     “Yes, of course.”

     “Phew. Come on let’s go christen this place. I’m ready to ravish my wife.”

     “I have to pee first.”

     “I guess I better get used to this.”

     This is the best news I could have ever received. I can’t wait to share this bundle of joy with my wife. Life can’t get any better than this.

S. Donahue is a Philadelphia based author who penned her first romance novel,

in 2013, and
Trusting Hearts
in 2014 on an independent basis.  She is currently working on the third novel
